Imam Hussain and his family were martyred in Karbala in 61 AH. After being captured and taken to Damascus, Imam al-Sajjad and Sayyeda Zaynab gave speeches that moved the Muslim community. When the family was released, they visited Karbala to bury the heads of the martyrs of Karbala, including Imam Hussain. They found Jabir bin Abdullah al-Ansari, who was blind, had made his way there after being told of Imam Hussain's death by the Prophet Muhammad. Millions visit the shrine of Imam Hussain in Karbala every year to pay their respects.
