As a hispanic girl, the typical dream which is expected of us is to want to have a quinceanera. Which
would be a large party for the transition from childhood to adulthood. However this wasn t the way it
went for me. My dreams where different. I could honestly care less about having a huge party to
celebrate me turning 15. Of course it would be great experience to have one and it is a once in a
lifetime thing as you can only turn 15 once. Yet, I tend to not want this but at the same time I long

In This essay I will discuss the use of camera movements, framing and the editing devices in the crop
duster sequence of North by Northwest (Alfred Hitchcock, USA, 1959) By focusing on these three
techniques I hope to establish what effect they have on us and how that effect is achieved? I will look
closely and analyse certain shots in this sequence, which I feel are significant in creating suspense. By
dissecting the layers of each shot, I hope to reveal the technique and intentions behind them.
The first significant shot I will discuss is just after Eva Marie Saint s face dissolves. This extreme
aerial shot established the vast area in which Cary Grant faces. The camera stays in its fixed high
angle as a bus approaches with Grant. The bus drives off and the camera angle and frame do not
change. This establishes the setting for the viewers. Such extreme high angle shots make characters
into pawns (E. Roger, 2008, 4). In other words it evokes the insignificance of a single human being in
such a vast and secluded area.
With nothing around the slow pacing in the beginning of this sequence can be seen as a tantalising
build up of suspense, not knowing what to expect. It cuts to a long shot and low angle as Grant waits

American Influences on Syria
Syria s Government Syria and America both have very similar governments. There are only a few
assets which makes syrian government Republic and us a Federal Republic. Syria s government has
three branches: legislative, executive and judicial ( Just like America!). The executive branch is made
up of a president, two vice presidents, a prime minister and a cabinet. The president term last for only
7 years, and the president must be a muslim. The president has the right to name ministers within the
government and declare states of emergency or war. The vice president s job is to take place of the
president if something ever happens. The prime minister is the head of the government of the Syrian
Arab Republic. There are no constitutional limits on a Prime Minister s term. The cabinet advises the
president. Next is the legislative branch. This branch is governed by the People s Council. This
council has 250 members elected for a four year term. The function of the People s Council include
voting for a president, passing laws , discussing government policy, ratification of treaties, and
approving budget and development of plans. Lastly, the Judicial branch. The judiciary, including the
powers to appoint, promote, and transfer judges, is assigned in the Supreme Judicial Council. Islamic
law is strictly followed by the Judicial System. There are three different levels of courts: courts of first
instance, courts of appeals, and the highest court is the constitutional

The Promised Analysis of Gay Suburbia
In Peacocks, Chameleons, Centaurs, Wayne Brekhaus discusses more than the promised analysis of
gay suburbia. Brekhaus presents a thorough investigation of human identity construction, which just
so happens to apply well to gay suburban life in America. The title refers to the three main types of
identity management that people use to construct their sense of self. Brekhaus defines his terms well.
Identity is defined in three ways; or, there are three different types of identity. These three identity
types include the following: first, there are broad group identities; then, there are the commonly
recognized dimensions along which group identities are formed, such as sexual identity; and finally,
there is self identity. An individual can have multiple identities; what Brekhaus explores is how
individuals manage these sometimes disparate identities in one persona. The person will have a core
self, or true self, the very core of a person that reflects an inner, true, unchanging, context independent
essence of human being (Brekhaus 23). Brekhaus posits three main methods of managing identity, or
three identity types. Those three identity types include the lifestyler (peacocks); the commuter
(chameleon); and the integrator (centaur). These are also what Brekhaus refers to as identity
grammars, as there is a grammar or structure by which identity is formed. Each of these three identity

The Discovery Of Norwegian Viking Culture
In 1903 a miraculous discovery was made in western Norway. Under a large mound on a small farm in
the Vestford region, there was unearthed a massive Viking ship. Its treasures and contents were so
large they are still being studied today. The Oseberg ship burial, as it has come to be known, gives us
important information on Norwegian Viking culture. This essay will look at the history of its
discovery, the ship itself, its objects, the intriguing carvings, the intricate fabrics, and of course, the

All the wooden objects were preserved, although broken by mechanical means, through the great
pressure of the masses of earth above. (Brøgger, 1921) As the digging continued Prof. Gustafson and
Mr. Shetelig began to unearth what they believed was a Viking longship. Instead, what they found was
a class of Viking ship called a karv. A karv is shorter than a longship and unlike the naval longship, is
used in everyday life to transport people or goods. They were mostly used in shallow waters. This was
further supported by the fact that the discovery was close to an ancient riverbed. (Brøgger, 1921) Like
many other Viking ships it was clinker built. This means each board of the hull overlaps the one below
and is attached with iron rivets. The Oseberg ship pointed north to south in its barrow. The ship
measured 21.5 m long and 5.0 m wide. It was made of oak with a pine deck. It had 15 pine oars. The
mast was 9 10 m tall and was found laying in the ship with a sail that was 90 m. The prow and stern
were decorated with animal carvings. Unfortunately the ship and its contents were broken into
thousands of pieces. The ship was later dendrodated to ca. 820. When Gustafson began digging the
