Dear Sir or Madame,
I am writing to you to apply for the job role of a lighting technician at your event at
Arley Hall. I love anything to do with lighting whether it’s doing service maintenance, rigging and
operating. If you’re looking for anyone with great enthusiasm and determination, I personally think I
am more than capable for the job. I have worked with lights since high school so I have a good
understanding of lights ranging from profiles to LED’s and I have only recently started tooperate the
lighting desk and it was the most enjoyable thing to do. I have good knowledge and understanding of
the lighting technician role with all the responsibility and duties. I have completed one of the main
units which are the lighting operations, so I now have an even better clear understanding of the job
role.
You have mentioned the necessity requirements for the job role been given. For example the past
experience I have had that includes what you need for the job is rigging, operating, de-rigging. I do
meet all these as I have past experience.
The most recent work experience I have is where I have been rigging and de-rigging at Parr Hall
where I was given a blueprint of a lighting design and me and a group of us then were given 4 hours
to rig everything, I have used the taller scope many times, once everything was rigged the lighting
designer then gave us focus notes and a set of coloured gels to put into the correct lights. Straight
after the last night of the show we were told we had till midnight to clear everything we have rigged
so then the next show that is on the next day can begin there lighting designs.
Another work experience I have had is at the Pyramid where I was lighting operator. The task I was
given was to plot cue’s, use sub masters and programming the lighting desk. There was over 250
cues needed for the show, so on the technical rehearsal day I went through the show and they was
happy with my work on the cue’s. On the nights of the shows I had my headsets on communicating
to the production crew back stage giving them cue’s and orders when to bring the performers on. I
had one slight incident on the night where I accidently did a black out midway through the
performance but quickly got myself out of the situation by bringing the lights back on by fading them
up with the music. Everyone has a technical fault one point through their career, so at least I’m
being totally honest.
For me to have this job I would not let you down as I will be on time every day, I have my own tools
if any repairs need doing on the night. I am always there on the job and never to let any down. Hope
