Frankenstein
1.
2. The documentary is mixed documentary as it has a variety
of archive footage that contain clips from the film, there is
observations that are introduced by a narration. Added to
that, there are interviews with people that are relevant to
the themes of the documentary.
The themes for this documentary are horror as it is
associated with the novel written in the horror genre.
Other themes are the creation of Frankenstein and the life
and work of Mary Shelley.
It is non-linear documentary, the reasons being it doesn’t
really follow an order in time, but it is a closed
documentary as everything is revealed with nothing left to
question. It is also single stranded because it is mainly
focussed on one theme.
3. There are many camera shots used in this documentary, particularly
with tracking shots, establishing shots during the archive footage, two
person shots and medium close up are used in interviews. The framing is
either located to the left or right of the screen.
The shots are used to illustrate the exposistion of the narration, with the
style of interviews being conventional. This is because the rule of thirds
is used and the person being interviewed uses direct mode of address to
the camera but never stares in to the lens.
4. The narration of the documentary uses a male
narrator with a recognisable accent and isn’t
seen through out the documentary, which
means that this is a voice of god narration.
The narration is used to introduce the
documentary, as well as back up the exposition.
There is non diegetic sound that involves
heartbeats, thunder strikes which links to the
theme of the documentary.
5. The opening title of the documentary uses
iconography with lighting bolts which is another
example that links in with theme.
Black and white colours are used, as well as using a
chromakay background or actuality footage which
links in with theme.
Cutaways are used for the interviews as you cant hear
the person asking the questions.
Titles (two line of text) are given to the people talking
on screen as they have a relevant part in the
documentary.
Sound effects are added in to create tension for the
viewer.

they were being interviewed.
