Quality decides.
Hommel-Etamic, the Industrial Metrology Division of the
Jenoptik Group, is a leading manufacturer and system
provider of high-precision, tactile and non-tactile produc-
tion metrology.
Our range of products includes solutions for a wide range
of measurement tasks such as testing surfaces, form,
and determining dimensional tolerances – throughout
all phases of the production process, for final inspection
or in a metrology lab. Our product portfolio is rounded
off by a wide range of services in consulting, training
and service, including long-term maintenance contracts.
Hommel-Etamic. Precision is our business!
In the medical equipment industry, demands on the
products are very high. After all, both the physician
and patient have to rely on the quality and safety of
the finished product.
Highest precision and traceability qualify our measuring
instruments. They allow for measurement of the small-
est tolerances in geometry, form deviation, and
surface texture. Thus the quality of the products can
be accounted for simply and quickly.
Hommel-Etamic offers the perfect solution for your
measurement task – on the production line, for final
inspection, limited production runs, or during full scale
series manufacturing.
3. High-class medical products make our lives better
and longer, helping deliver a superior quality of life.
Quality defines the well-being of an individual, especially
when the medical product is in direct contact with
human tissue or takes over the function of specific body
parts (i.e. prosthesis).
With modern metrology, the quality of medical products
is tested and consequently continually improved in order
to guarantee their best possible functionality. Manufac-
turing defects are detected at an early stage in order to
optimize the production process.

An important part of ensuring optimum implant quality
is the surface texture. With the right properties, the
surface texture delivers the best possible imitation of
biological behavior.
Surface roughness parameters are measured and
area-based 3-D topographies are generated for the
assessment of the surface texture.
Application examples:
• Contact lenses
• (Dental) implants
• Stents
• Wrinkles
• Knee and hip joint prostheses
• Artificial vertebrae bodies
• Bone screws and connectors
• Surgical instruments
• Etc.

5. The precision fit of medical replacement parts determines
the well being of the individual: therefore the tolerances
have to be met exactly.
Measurement tasks include: straightness, facets and
bridges of cannulas, form deviation of cutting edges and
instrument tips, angles and radii, diameters and lengths,
as well as thread parameters.
Application examples:
• Artificial replacement components
• Dental implants
• Bone screws and connectors
• Bone drills and cutters
• Medical equipment components
• Infusion/injection components, cannulas
• Dentistry instruments
• Etc.

The life-span of prosthesis depends on a precision fit.
Only when the dimensions are within the defined toler-
ance limits can the best possible use be guaranteed.
One example of a measuring task includes the fitting
accuracy of a hip ball and hip socket.
Application examples:
• Knee and hip joint prostheses
• Bone screws
• Bone drills and cutters
• Surgical instruments
• Medical equipment components
• Etc.
Form deviation measurement.
