This document describes Backend as a Service (BaaS) which allows developers to save time and money by hosting backend functionality in the cloud. Key features of BaaS include scalable cloud hosting of backends in secure German data centers, integration of frontends via REST interfaces, and development environments accessible via web browsers. BaaS reduces costs compared to self-hosting for apps of all sizes. An example project is described where a city information app was built entirely with a BaaS backend by a single iOS developer.
