Hormones are chemical messengers that travel through the body and communicate regulatory messages. They tend to work slowly but have great impacts, affecting growth, metabolism, sexual function, reproduction, and mood. The major endocrine glands that produce hormones are the pituitary, pineal, thymus, thyroid, adrenal glands and pancreas, as well as the testes and ovaries.
