2. Writing Two ways to help with improvement of commended scores: teacher training & moving students to the next writing level. Teacher Training: send teachers to The Writing Academy. This is a workshop for teachers and has been proven to raise written composition scores in our district. A mini grant was funded this past year to send all the writing teacher at one campus to this academy. Increasing Student Level: through Wheelies (example follows), peer editing, administrator editing, peer story building, technology integrations and “What Is It?” games. Revising and editing: even though we are strongest in this area we need to keep improving. The revising and editing section of the test ask numerous questions like “What Change If Any.” Students need to be taught to write the letters CPSU (Capitalization, Punctuation, Spelling, Usage) every time they see this question. They also must understand what is off topic.
