Introduction
 State, culture and religion are major factors whose interaction influences and shapes the
character of a society.
 When examining the interaction between state, culture, and religion in society, and
their collective influence on it one has to take into consideration.
 The society functions properly when state, culture and religion interact in harmony.
 Disharmony in interaction results in intellectual poverty, cultural stagnation, and
narrow-minded attitudes, and isolation of the masses from dominant economic,
political, and religious issues on the other.
State
 According to Pluto state is that institution of society, that is responsible to care about
people, and their welfare.
 State functions in a way, which takes into account every aspect of society.
 Makes policies to run every institution existing within society with harmony .
 It strictly prohibits any sort of disobedience and violation from its people.
 Gilgit-Baltistan presents a picture of disharmonious interaction between state, religion,
and culture.
Religion
 Religion undoubtedly plays an important part in the live of people around the world.
 Prof: Charles B. Jones says many people say, religion is the most important of their
lives, and participate in the practices of their faith
 And understand the world according the view of their religion.
 It is divine or made by persons, and followed by persons who feel that it fulfils the
needs of their every day lives.
 Religion is a separate institution that offers followers, beliefs, norms and values, set of
rules and explains the way how to live life.
Culture
 According to E.B Taylor Cultural is a complex whole which includes beliefs, customs,
norms and values and the remaining standards of living.
 It comprises of practices of living, by the people of a community e.g
 Marriage patterns, heritage distribution, way of living and other traditions.
 Culture represents the complete image of any society and their progress.
 It goes on adopting new things from other cultures and survives for long term.
 Although the people of G.B share the same culture and when it comes to religion, here
comes, sect which separates people and fosters hatred within the hearts.
Impact Of Religion on State
 State and religion are two different institutions, both aim at providing and
fulfilling the every day needs and facilities of life.
 In Gilgitbaltistan Religion directly intervenes the Government in the form of
elections.
 Religious clerics have defined their own political members and fully support
them.
 When ever one factor interferers in other very much as result conflict occurs.
 To avoid conflict between religion and state both factors are to play their own role
separately.
 It is evident from the past experience that state is to much influenced by religion.
Impact of Religion on Culture
 As culture is considered to be man made entity
 It was with out factors of religion but with the rise of consciousness
 About religion people started adopting religious factors and included in
culture
 As there are customs in Gilgit culture which resembles Hindu culture
 But with Islaminzation the culture adopted most of the elements from religion
 As a result culture got influenced by religion
 Gradually religion become most important entity in majority of world
cultures.
Amalgamation OF all these Factors
 Religion focuses on individuals life style while the state focuses on welfare of
mass.
 Dominancy of religion leads to isolation of masses from the nation having
different ideologies.
 With in religion there are different cults with opposing opinion which leads
society towards conflicts.
 On the basis of religion, different communities emerged where each
community consider itself different from others. Which causes conflicts and
sense of nation within the nation.
 Further more a minute cultural and sociolinguistic differences also play an
important role in the further separation of people within the same
community.
Conclusion/ Recommendation
 As it has been seen in the past, that how religion influenced state and what
were its consequences on innocent people .
 G-B people also suffered the terrific out comes of religiosity e.g. 1988 raid
and afterwards killings on the basis of religion.
 Richard Dawkins suggests that religion should play its role within the premises
of its institution.
 So that no any violation would outburst in the name of religion.
 Dr. Mubarak Ali Briefly goes into deep roots of religion and state, recommends
 There should not be interference of religion in the policies of government ,so
that no conflict may again occur within the minds of followers having
opposing opinions.
