3. Algorithms and Protocols for the Internet of Things
• Dynamic Routing Protocols such as BCP and HD Routing that provide
higher robustness to interference and higher throughput scaling than
traditional static routing (IPSN 2010, INFOCOM 2014)
• MCC: The first state of the art 802.15.4e-TSCH-friendly collection
protocol that guarantees maximum fair throughput (MASS 2014)
• New enhancements to Sequence-based Localization; real-world
deployment @ USC Cinema School, applications to fire rescue
(DCOSS 2014, CIB W78)
• ORION – a software defined networking system that enables closed-
loop network control algorithms
• Machine Learning to learn occupant preferences for online in-
building thermal control (BuildSys 2012) We still maintain the 100-node TutorNet IoT

• Computational offloading for connnected vehicles (INFOCOM 2014)
• MERLIN: efficient query and download protocol for short duration
links
• Inferring origin-destination matrix from road sensors
• City-scale air quality sensing

5. Algorithms for Wireless Robotic Networks
• Capacity achieving scheduling of message-ferrying robots (WiUAV
2013, MASS 2014)
• RouteSwarm: two-tier approach to wireless network optimization
using robotic network (IROS 2014)
• LEONA: Optimal network deployment in an unknown obstructed
environment (in submission)
Stochastic Online Learning Algorithms
• Combinatorial Multi-Armed Bandits – first polynomial regret policy for any linear-objective
combinatorial optimization problem over graphs with unknown random edge weights - LLR (ToN 2012)
• New theoretical results on Multi-period newsvendor, a classic online optimization problem with
applications to rate control, base station switching, and inventory management (Asilomar 2013,
INFOCOM 2014, ACC 2015)
• Online learning for scheduling communication and computation (ongoing work)
