(1)Research Steps and Application
Imagine you are asked to give a half-hour presentation about research in human services. Since this could cover a vast number of concepts, you decide to illustrate the steps of a basic research process using a real-world example from your text. You may select from any of the “Research in Practice” sections of your textbook for a real-world example. In your discussion, state the steps of the research process and propose a fictitious, yet practical, conclusion. If you cannot come up with a conclusion from your real-world example, you may locate and cite a research conclusion from a published article. Explain how this research conclusion could be used to inform human service practice with regards to the problem formulation you selected.
(2)Intake Process
Often when providing services, basic intake information is required. The researcher could, at the end of a given time period, examine these intake papers and, based on some need, compute descriptive statistics using information provided by the clients / participants. Information such as income, family make up, and education levels could be used to compute mean values. However, you may be asked to configure a study that can be called experimental. In this discussion forum you are asked to compare these two formats and identify in what ways they differ. In order to determine definitions of descriptive research, you will need to access

What are 2 key attributes to well-written requirements?
There are several key attributes to well-written requirements for a system project. Two core attributes to well-written requirements are clarity and risk. A well-written requirement for a system project should be able to identify risks and threats that may compromise the project at hand. Having a clear and straightforward system project will enable the project team members to have an understanding of everything that is needed for the success of the project (Wiegers, K., & Beatty, 2013).
How do these attributes impact the quality of requirements? How might you assess system requirements based off these attributes?
Clarity will create awareness on what should be done regarding the project thus promoting its effectiveness for success. Identification of risks will also allow you to select the most viable alternative for preventing threats that may compromise the entire project. Through this, the project team will know the needs required for the project. I will analyze all the possible risks that are likely to affect the project and whether we as a team are ready to counter any threats that might arise.
Response to Peer 1
Hello, thank you for your significant contribution of the key attributes to well-written assignments and their impacts on the quality of requirements. I have read through your post and not only have I found it resourceful but it also captivating. Reading through the post has completely changed my perception, and this has made me understand the significance of ensuring well-written requirements. It is true that to ensure well-written requirements, some of the considerations have to be ensured. I conquer with you on the first attribute of clarity. A well-written requirement should be free from unnecessary information to ensure accuracy and validity. I think clarity also promotes soundness and makes the requirements easily understandable.
Another important quality that should be considered is feasibility. That is to say that, your requirement should be achievable within the available resources and budget. Clarity and Feasibility will enable the project team members and various stakeholders to understand what exactly is needed regarding a given project. It will also allow the project team to know the requirements for a particular project regardless of the situation.
Response to Peer 2
Hello, such a fantastic post made by you on the qualities t to well-written assignments. Requirement qualities are vital in ensuring that the person understands the information needed for a project to be undertaken. It is true that a key quality to a requirement that is well written is the one that makes good use of its resources. I conquer with you that risk is also another vital attribute to well-written requirements as this identifies what is at stake in case requirement.
A Survey of Ontology-based Information Extraction for Social Media Content An...ijcnes
The amount of information generated in the Web has grown enormously over the years. This information is significant to individuals, businesses and organizations. If analyzed, understood and utilized, it will provide a valuable insight to its stakeholders. However, many of these information are semi-structured or unstructured which makes it difficult to draw in-depth understanding of the implications behind those information. This is where Ontology-based Information Extraction (OBIE) and social media content analysis come into play. OBIE has now become a popular way to extract information coming from machine-readable sources. This paper presents a survey of OBIE, Ontology languages and tools and the process to build an ontology model and framework. The author made a comparison of two ontology building frameworks and identified which framework is complete.

3. The papers are written by different authors, in markedly different styles. Can you identify what makes these papers "academic" (other than the fact that they are all published in reputable journals)? How do these papers differ from newspaper articles or blogs (that might or might not be written by experts)?
4. What adds credibility to these papers? What makes published papers an academic/scholarly resource as compared to sources like Wall Street Journal, Wikipedia, Investopedia, blogs, etc.?
The following provides my response to both questions:
In observing each of the three papers, it is noted that the differences in style and approach vary between each group of authors. Still, these papers are deemed as “academic works” through which they each meet the criteria to be accepted as such via the peer review process (Cornell University, 2021). Through this process, articles are examined by multiple other scholars, experts, or academic peers to be reviewed and commented on. Once these reviews agree to the validity and contribution to a field of research then they may be published and deemed as scholarly. Moreover, peer reviewed articles (like these) differ than sources collected from news or general interest pieces as they are not written by members of editorial staff or freelance writers (Cornell University, 2021). Per Cornell University (2021), these types of editorials or contributions to a topic generally are written with no specialty assumed and are written with the purpose of providing general information to appeal to a broad audience of concerned citizens.
5. What does this essay exercise teach you in terms of your own writing style, your own approach to research, and what improvements in your style/approach would help you become a better writer?
This essay exercise is teaching me (as I have not completed my essay) that my writing style is subject to change. One thing I learned is that there are many approach styles and each is dictated based on the purpose of the research being conducted. In evaluating each of the three articles, I found that though each article is similar in the field of study the motivation for the research leads the authors to present their research in a way that supports their purpose. For example, one work is presented as case study evaluation, the second was an exploration of a research question, and the third was an expansion of research for supportive information that is presented in the form of a literature review. As such, I observed different ways to present Headings, Abstracts, and Contextual Support. Moving forward, this exposure to different writing styles will help me better organize and tailor my own work for my intended audience. Any thoughts?

Introduction
It is important for qualitative data to be analyzed and the themes that emerge identified so that the data can be presented in a way that is understandable. Theme identification is an essential task in qualitative research and themes could mean abstract, often fuzzy, constructs which investigators identify before, during, and after data collection. I will discuss the themes that emerge from the data collected from the interview.Analyzing and presenting qualitative data in an understandable manner is a five step procedure that I will also explain in this paper.

Haukoos, J. S., & Lewis, R. J. (2015). Advanced statistics: bootstrapping confidence intervals for statistics with “difficult” distributions. Academic emergency medicine, 12(4), 360-365.
This article by Haukoos and Lewis describe how to use confidence intervals in reporting research results which the authors acknowledge to have increased in use and as a requirement for scientific journal editors. The article explores a number of resources that describe methods of computing statistical confidence intervals for descriptive statistics that have descriptions that are not easy to mathematically represent which is a challenging task. The article is relevant to the topic matter in that it describes the methods along with how the resources availed describing the computing methods for descriptive statistics. The authors propose the use of bootstrap technique which they argue allows a researcher to make inferences from data without making strong assumptions about distribution of the data or the statistics under calculation. The strengths of the article include the fact that it describes the bootstrapping concept and demonstrates how to estimate confidence intervals for the median and the spearman rank correlation coefficient for data not normally distributed. the weakness of this resource is the fact that it does not generally describe how to compute descriptive statistics but narrows down to describing how to compute descriptive statistics confidence intervals. The article used a qualitative research method on a clinical study that used two commonly used statistical software packages of strata and SAS in its discussion of limitations of the bootstrap.
Team, R. C. (2013). R: A language and environment for statistical computing.
The document by Andy Bunn and Mikko Korpela describes the basic features of dendrologists program library in R, which is in itself a package used by dendrologists to handle the processing and analysis of data. The document follows the basic steps an analyst follows when working with a new tree-ring data set. This document is a vignette commences by describing how to read in ring widths and how to plot them. The vignette is relevant in this study as it describes a number of methods available for trending and detrending and shows how to extract basic descriptive statistics. It also shows how to build and plot a simple chronology of the mean value. The building of the mean-value chronology is shown in the vignette using the expressed signal; of the population from the detrended ring widths as a way of doing complicated computing by the use of The Dendrochronology Program Library in R (dplR). The classical or traditional information system provides answer after a user submits a complete query. It is even
noticed that presently, almost all the relational database systems rely on the query which has syntax and semantics
defined completely to access data. But often it is the case that we are willing to use vague terms in our query. The main
objective of database management system is to provide an environment that is both convenient and efficient for people
to use in storing and retrieving information. A recent trend of supporting auto complete is a first step to cope up with
this problem. We can have design of both classical and fuzzy database and can use effectively fuzzy queries on these
databases. Fuzzy databases are developed to manipulate the incomplete, unclear and vague data such as low, fast, very
high, about etc. The primary focus of fuzzy logic is on the natural language. This Paper provides the users the flexibility
or freedom to query database using natural language. Here this paper implements “interactive fuzzy search”. This
framework for interactive fuzzy search permits the user to explore the data as they type even in the presence of some
minor errors. This paper applies fuzzy queries on relational database so that it is possible to have the precise result as
well as the output for the uncertain terms we generally use based on some membership function
TOWARDS A MULTI-FEATURE ENABLED APPROACH FOR OPTIMIZED EXPERT SEEKINGcsandit
With the enormous growth of data, retrieving information from the Web became more desirable
and even more challenging because of the Big Data issues (e.g. noise, corruption, bad
quality…etc.). Expert seeking, defined as returning a ranked list of expert researchers given a
topic, has been a real concern in the last 15 years. This kind of task comes in handy when
building scientific committees, requiring to identify the scholars’ experience to assign them the
most suitable roles in addition to other factors as well. Due to the fact the Web is drowning with
plenty of data, this opens up the opportunity to collect different kinds of expertise evidence. In
this paper, we propose an expert seeking approach with specifying the most desirable features
(i.e. criteria on which researcher’s evaluation is done) along with their estimation techniques.
We utilized some machine learning techniques in our system and we aim at verifying the
effectiveness of incorporating influential features that go beyond publications

you will research resources available on the Internet for monitoring.docxjustine1simpson78276
you will research resources available on the Internet for monitoring natural phenomena including earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, global climate, and weather.
Based on your research, do the following:
Identify a minimum of three different natural phenomena that are typically responsible for natural disasters. Analyze the potential impact of these disasters.
Analyze how these phenomenon are monitored, or not, via the Internet. Critique available Web sites, which publicly display up-to-date monitored information related to each of the natural phenomena you have identified. Focus on the following aspects:
Geography
What parts of the world are potentially affected by these phenomena? Specifically identify the countries.
Resources
What kinds of resources are allocated toward monitoring these phenomena and why?
What types of Web resources monitor the phenomena and provide up-to-date information about them?
What kinds of technology are involved in monitoring the phenomena?
Politics
What political ramifications would this disaster-preparedness technology cause between more-developed countries and less-developed countries?
What kinds of issues could this technology cause between less-developed countries?
Economics
How would this technology directly impact the economies of those countries that have the technology versus those countries that do not?
Do you predict any indirect impacts? What current evidence supports your position?
Disaster Preparedness
What types of systems are in place in terms of disaster preparedness related to these monitored phenomena?
Summarize your findings. Evaluate how this technology will impact the future of humanity, both positively and negatively. Be sure to consider the political and economic issues discussed in your future predictions.
Support your statements with examples. Use a minimum of six reliable references, two of which should be peer-reviewed articles.
Write a 7–8-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

In reviewing this week’s reading material, Kouzes and Posner’s (2017) argument for the importance of enabling others to act, fostering collaboration, and strengthening others reminded me of Deci and Ryan’s (1985) self-determination theory. I have routinely come back to this theory throughout my coursework as the principles within it seem to fit many different molds, specifically leadership and motivation. The topic of motivation and police officers has become an area of interest due in part to research showing the unique nature of being a police officer, to include internal and external stressors that are seldom experienced by any other profession (Accquadro Maran, Zedda, Varetto & Ieraci, 2015). Deci and Ryan’s (1985) self-determination theory simply says that in order for humans to feel motivated to perform they must have a sense of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. I find that Kouzes and Posner’s (2017) concept of enabling others to act and fostering collaborations meld perfectly with providing people with a sense of autonomy. Leaders, especially front-line supervisors within law enforcement organizations, have a dramatic impact on the autonomy of officers. I have seen first-hand how front-line leadership can restrict the decision-making process so much that they drain the officer’s motivation which leads to them not wanting to act and foster any sort of collaboration with the organization. Having the confidence as a leader to step back and allow others to make decisions is a worthy investment. While not every situation will allow for this, leaders must learn to create environments in which their people can be successful and allow them to make decisions. This level of confidence is not learned overnight, and I have struggled with this myself. However, once I observed the benefits of allowing officers to make their own decisions, obviously within the guidelines of our policies, they feel more connected and confident in their ability to solve problems. If we look at Deci and Ryan’s (1985) argument for competence, this aligns with Kouzes and Posner’s (2017) argument for strengthening others. Competence, or having the ability to complete the task at hand, comes down to proper training which strengthens others and allows them to complete their job more effectively and with confidence. Failure to strengthen others can, and will, result in stagnation due to a lack of motivation to perform. Leadership is a challenging process that takes time to learn and understand. This process can certainly be daunting, however just as Proverbs 3:5 (English Standard Version, 2020) reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean .

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

topics that one would need to know in reference to this specific
subject. Overall, this work is a great source provided by three
very qualified authors.

Literature Review Assignment
The primary purpose of this assignment is to help you
understand that the literature review is an integral part of any
research project
and how it lays the groundwork for the investigation you will
do. Quoting from Hart (1998, p 13), Sekaran and Bougie (2013)
define a
literature review as,
…the selection of available documents (both published and
unpublished) on the topic, which contain information, ideas,
data and
evidence written from a particular standpoint to fulfill certain
aims or express certain views on the nature of the topic and how
it is
to be investigated, and the effective evaluation of these
documents in relation to the research being proposed. (p. 49)
They go on to say,
A literature review is a step-by-step process that involves the
5. identification of published and unpublished work from
secondary
data sources on the topic of interest, the evaluation of this work
in relation to the problem, and the documentation of the work.
(Sekaran & Bougie, 2013, p. 50)
In Module 1, you completed an annotated bibliography on a
topic that you selected. That assignment required you to find at
least 10
sources of various types, write a short summary of the
information found in each source, and write an evaluation of the
source’s
credibility, reliability, currency, possible bias, and usefulness
with respect to your topic.
This assignment builds on your annotated bibliography
assignment. For the topic you chose for your Module 1
Annotated Bibliography
Assignment, complete the following.
• Go through your annotated bibliography again.
• Based on information presented in your annotated
bibliography sources (and others if needed), define a problem
statement
that, in your opinion, would be useful for you to investigate.
• Organize your sources by sorting and classifying their
findings in a meaningful way, always considering your original
topic
and problem statement.
• Write a literature review that would seem to offer the greatest
potential for developing a good theoretical framework, using
seven to ten references. All of these can be from your annotated
6. bibliography, or you can use others in addition to those in
your annotated bibliography.
• Develop the theoretical framework incorporating its three
basic functions as discussed in the text.
• Generate a set of testable hypotheses based on the theoretical
framework.
Your report must contain the sections outlined below. APA
formatting standards must be followed throughout. The paper
does not have
to be lengthy; perhaps 750 to 1500 words. The introduction,
research question, and hypothesis statement sections should be
short and
succinct. Most of the word count in your report will be in the
literature review and theoretical framework sections. For an
example of the
content of a report, see Report 3 on page 374 of the Sekaran and
Bougie text.
• Introduction
In this section, give a clear and concise statement of the
problem. Briefly indicate why it is a problem, why you selected
it, and
why it is important to solve the problem. Use references as
necessary to support your arguments.
• Literature Review
This should be one of the longer sections in your report. It
7. should summarize other work related to the problem you
identified. It
should identify important variables and document significant
findings from earlier research. According to Sekaran and
Bougie
(2013), it should:
…convince the reader that (1) the researcher is knowledgeable
about the problem area and has done the preliminary
homework that is necessary to conduct the research, and (2) a
theoretical framework (in deductive research) will be
structured on work already done and will add to the solid
foundation of existing knowledge. (p. 55)
Unlike the annotated bibliography, the literature review is not a
listing of sources with a summary of the findings of each and a
critique of the findings. The literature review, “should bring
together all relevant information in a cogent and logical
manner”
(Sekaran & Bougie, p. 55). Read through the examples on pages
37-38, 88-89, and 374-375 to see how a literature review
should be structured.
• Research Question
This should be a brief section with a clear and concise statement
of your question. It should be clear to the reader that your
question is a logical outgrowth of previous research as
summarized in your literature review.
• Theoretical Framework
This section applies to deductive research. It should be one of
the longer sections in your report. According to Sekaran and
Bougie:
The relationship between the literature review and the
theoretical framework is that the former provides a solid
8. foundation for
developing the latter. That is, the literature review identifies the
variables that might be important, as determined by previous
research findings. …. The theoretical framework represents and
elaborates the relationships among the variables, explains
the theory underlying these relations, and describes the nature
and direction of the relationships. (p. 77)
• Hypotheses
This brief section should contain a clear and concise statement
of your hypothesis or hypotheses. The hypotheses should be a
logical outgrowth of the theoretical framework. “Hypotheses
can be defined as logically conjectured relationships between
two or
more variables expressed in the form of testable statements”
(Sekaran & Bougie, 2013, p. 83).
• References
Your report must contain a reference section that includes all
sources in your paper. References must be in APA format.
As you work on this assignment, read Chapters 4 and 5 of the
Sekaran and Bougie text. Also read through the examples of a
literature
review on pages 37-38 and pages 88-89. Report 3 on page 374
of the text gives an example of a full report of this style.
You may find it helpful to outline your paper before you begin
to write it. An outline helps you see the logical connections (or
lack
thereof) among the parts of the paper. Following is a suggested
outline with a simple example:
9. Page 3 of 3
• Introduction (setting up the discussion)
o The problem is … [people are carrying onto airplanes more
and more luggage, resulting in delays in boarding and
continued problems for flight attendants and gate agents]
o It’s important because … [the airline industry is vital to the
economy; no one likes delays; customers must not abandon
airline travel for other options]
o Solving it would result in … [improved customer experience,
resulting in better economic stability for the airlines]
• Literature Review (what has already been ‘said’ in this
‘conversation’)
o Previous research in this area has shown …
[the desire to carry on is driven by several factors:
security of personal valuables, convenience, baggage charges,
fear of lost luggage and wait time at arrival airport]
• Pros and cons [how these sources support and/or contradict
each other]
Solution
10. s explored so far include … [size and number limits, baggage
fees, improved tracking of luggage]
o Summary of lit review findings (where we are now with this
problem)
on limits to plane’s carry-on capacity and reducing
fear of lost luggage]
• Research Question (what new question/solution will be
investigated)
o What would happen if … [customer time were the focus of
improvement, specifically, if promptness of delivery to carousel
at arrival were improved? How important is it to customers that
their baggage arrive quickly at the pickup point?]
• Theoretical Framework (how the question arises logically
from the literature review)
o The dependent variable(s) is/are … [delays in boarding,
problems for flight attendants and gate agents, others….]
o The independent variable(s) is/are … [amount of carry-on
baggage]
• Hypotheses (what testable speculations arise from the
11. identified independent variables)
o Customers who are confident that their bags will arrive at the
carousel for pickup within 10 minutes of exiting the plane will
be more likely to check baggage rather than carry it on.
o Customers who value quick pickup of luggage upon arrival
will be more likely to check baggage rather than carry it on.
A draft of this assignment is due in Module 3. Your instructor
will provide you with feedback on your work and you will be
able to revise
it and turn in the final version in Module 5. Take advantage of
this opportunity! The purpose of the draft is to give you an
opportunity to
get feedback from your instructor prior to writing your final
version – the draft isn’t expected to be perfect. It will be
graded, and will
count 2% of your final course grade. A good grade on the draft
means that you submitted it on time; your instructor feels that
you put
good effort into it, and that it addresses the required topics. The
final version that is due in Module 5 will be subject to much
more
stringent grading criteria. That means it is possible that you
12. could receive a higher grade on a draft than on the
corresponding portion of
the final complete proposal.
