Annie Leibovitz was born in 1949 in Connecticut. She got a job at Rolling Stone magazine in 1970 and helped define their visual style as chief photographer. In 1983, she began working for Vanity Fair magazine, where she produced iconic and provocative images. She has since worked on advertising campaigns and published several books of her work, which has been exhibited worldwide.

2. Annie Leibovitz was born on October 2nd 1949 in Waterbury, Connecticut. In 1970 she got a job at
Rolling Stone and she then went on to create a look for the publication as chief photographer. In
1983 she began working for the magazine Vanity Fair, which she then produced images that would
be deemed iconic and provocative.
She has also worked on high profile advertising campaigns and her images have been showcased in
several books and major exhibitions around the world. At Northwood high school in silver spring,
Maryland and she became interested in artistic endeavours and began to write and play music.

4. This image shows this woman with some sort of facemask on and she is also pulling the face mask from
her face with her hands. This could imply that she has mixed personalities because she has the mask on
which could show different people. This photo has a very dark background to it with just grey/black,
this helps the woman to stand out because she is wearing a very bright white shirt which could also
show peace and purity. The face mask also stands out on the photo because it is also white and could
also show purity in the person that she might be pretending to be. The photo is brightly lit which would
be because of the lights in the studio that they are in, this is to brighten up her face and to make her
look nicer but to also make her stand out more.
The shot of this woman is a close up, this has been done with the framing of the photo so you can
clearly see that she is pulling her face with the face mask that she is wearing. This can tell you a bit
about the photo and you would not be able to see this detail if this was a long shot. The rule of thirds
applies in this photo because the woman is right in the centre and there is where the middle boxes
would be if the rule of thirds was drawn, this has been done because the photo wants you to focus on
the woman in the photo, whenever you look at a photo you are directly drawn to the centre so this is
why they have positioned the woman like this. All of this photo is in focus because the main focus of
the photo is the woman so they want all the image to be able to be clearly seen. The meaning of this
photo is to show a mix of different personalities that one person can become when they feel like it and
also different moods that people experience.

6. The focus of this photo is Leonardo DiCaprio holding the swan, you can see this because he is the
only thing in the photo that is in focus whilst the long grass in the background is blurred out. This
makes you focus on the subject in focus which would be Leonardo and the swan. He is positioned to
the right of the photo which indicates that there could be text on the left and this might have been
done for a magazine because of that, But because he and the swan are the only thing in the image
that stand out you are drawn to look at that side anyway. Swans are actually considered fairly
dangerous animals so this makes Leonardo look quite dangerous and daring to be this close to this
animal and pretty much letting the animal hug him. The framing of this photo is done so that you
can see his emotion on his face because the shot is fairly close and you can see him being serious
and showing a very blank emotion, this links in with the swan because he might need to be serious
and formal around it.
The lighting is fairly dark in this image mostly because it is black and white, from this image I would
say that there is some natural lighting because of them being outdoors but also his face is brightly lit
which would have been done by specific lights set out by the crew. A fast shutter speed has been
used in this photo to capture that exact moment that the swan is round his neck, when they would
have been taking this photo there would have been many quick shots with fast shutter speed so
that they had many photos to choose from and each one looking different. In this photo the swan in
a way is representing Leonardo in the way the swan is looking elegant and majestic, Because it is
around his neck it looks like it is linked to him this also links in with people thinking Leonard is a
pretty boy so the swan looking as nice and delicate as it does links in with Leonardo as well.

8. This image is interesting because it shows this person who is cate Blanchett and shows two very
different emotions, one being very happy which is on the left and one which is very sad and
frowning on the right. This shows that a person can have two different emotions at a time and can
feel different. The lighting is very dull in this photo mostly because it is black and white but her face
is lit up with bright lights to make her face stand out more because she is the focus of the photo.
The rule of thirds would apply here, the pictures have been put next to each other to show that it is
the same person and to show that a person can feel two different emotions at the same time, also
she is slightly positioned to the middle of the shot this has been done because when the audience
look at something they will most likely look to the centre of the subject in this case would be the
woman. This shot is framed as a close up to the woman this is so you can see the full emotion on
her face and so the emotion stands out a lot because it is key with this photo.
The woman is fully in focus in this photo because she is the main subject and the people want her
to stand out which she does, this has been done because she is in focus and her face is in the
middle of the picture. Fast shutter speed has been used in this photo because when taking the
picture the people would of taken multiple shots whilst she was making different faces and picked
out the ones that they thought was the best and showed the best emotion. The meaning of this
photo is to show the different emotions that a person can feel and that they can feel different
emotions at the same time, this could also show that even if the person looks happy inside they
may be very sad.
