This document outlines the National Community Action on Alcohol Pilot Project 2016. The project aims to build the capacity of local communities through drug task forces to develop local alcohol action plans. It will provide training to alcohol subcommittees from 5 task forces on alcohol harms, community engagement, and action planning. The subcommittees will receive facilitation and support to develop local alcohol action plans aligned with national policy. Key stages include an expression of interest process, central training, facilitated planning workshops, and developing/implementing local action plans with monitoring and evaluation. Commitment is required from participating task forces to fully engage in the process.

Good morning everyone,
My presentation looks at the Community Action on Alcohol project 2016. But before I begin I would like to sincerely thank all those who took part in the Pilot project in 2015.
The Taskforces involved, their Alcohol Sub Committee members and especially those who represented their Taskforce at the central training days.
Thank you for your commitment and it was a big commitment to the 5 days training. Thank you for your active participation, for sharing your experiences both professional and personal, thank you for your enthusiasm and that stimulating group dynamic that kept us all on our toes.
Thank you also for your willingness to contribute to the external evaluation and for the clarity and focus of your thoughts and comments.
Your input has led to recommendations that will inform and improve the Community Action on Alcohol Project going forward.
This information is in your conference pack
Selection is carried out by the CAAP Steering Committee and is based on the information supplied on the EoI form according to the following criteria:
(15 Marks)
(10 Marks)
(25 Marks)
The leadership role is very important, if a member of staff is not available to take this on
We can break these stages down and look at the Project step by step
Co-ordinator & Chair arrange the first session for the full task force. This is part briefing part facilitated group work session so really this needs to be separate from the Task force scheduled meeting.
Draft a Time bound Action Plan to engage Stakeholders & form an Alcohol Sub Committee. This is a key step and a fundamental element of Community Action on Alcohol.
The ASC should include representation from Task Force membership but is not exclusive to existing TF membership.
Alcohol Sub Committee Lead / Deputy to populate the Action Plan Template and circulate draft LAAP to ASC members
Discuss feedback from draft LAAP. Continue developing Objectives, Performance Indicators, Monitoring process and Formative Evaluation
This subcommittee should include but is not limited to representatives from the L/RDATF.
The Taskforce staff representative agrees to take a lead role within the Alcohol Sub Committee and to act as contact person for the CAAP Project Lead. (If unavailable for a meeting or training event, a deputy should be appointed)
This leadership role includes co-ordinating the Alcohol sub Committee meetings, ensuring feedback from the central training sessions, ensuring feedback to the full Task Force as an agenda item and ensuring that baseline evidence is gathered to underpin the Local Alcohol Action Plan. These responsibilities should be carried out with support from the Alcohol Subcommittee.
Gathering the Baseline evidence (detailed in Module 1) should be carried out in tandem with the CAAP Project activities by the Alcohol Subcommittee & Task Force staff.
The Local Alcohol Action Plan should be written up by the Alcohol Subcommittee & Task Force staff.
Finally, Thank you to all those involved in the Community Action on Alcohol Pilot Project. It was a challenging process for us all but one that I believe was enriching for us all. It has been a pleasure working with you. Thank you
