Polar bears are the largest bear species, growing up to 8-11 feet tall and weighing 500-1,700 pounds. They live in circumpolar regions where they can hunt seals at openings in sea ice, being found in Canada, Alaska, Greenland, Russia, and Norway. Polar bears primarily prey on ringed seals and bearded seals, but will also eat harp seals and beluga whales when available. They bite their prey's head and neck to disable it before feeding on the skin, blubber, and meat, often stopping to wash during feeding.
