Polar bears are one of the largest carnivores on land. They can be found in the polar regions of the northern hemisphere. Polar bears have two layers of fur and claws and teeth that allow them to survive in the cold Arctic environment and hunt seals, their primary food source. As apex predators, polar bears have few natural predators besides killer whales and wolves. They roam the arctic ice sheets and swim across vast areas, living in the coldest parts of the planet in the Arctic region. There were as few as 5,000 polar bears at one point when they were endangered due to hunting but their numbers have rebounded to around 40,000 today.
