Andrew Murray Religion
Introduction
Andrew Murray was born in Cape Town, South Africa; Murray became a noted missionary leader.
His father was a Scottish Presbyterian serving the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa, and his
mother had connections with both French Huguenots and German Lutherans. This background to
some extent explains his ecumenical spirit. He was educated at Aberdeen University, Scotland, and
at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. After ordination in 1848 he served pastorates at
Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town, and Wellington. He helped to found what is now the
University College of the Orange Free State and the Stellenbosch Seminary He served as Moderator
of the Cape Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church and was president of both the YMCA (1865) and
the South Africa General Mission (1888–1917), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I joke that he is a dead mentor to me, because when I read his writings there is a longing in me to
imitate his faith, his passion for God, his conviction about being holy, his understanding about the
grace of God. I admire just how plainly and affectionately he wrote about heavenly things as though
he truly understood them. I just sit amazed at what God revealed to him and wonder if I will ever
truly know without a shadow of a doubt the things he speaks about. His writings are not just fluff,
but are the meat and potatoes of Christianity. If you read them you will not be disappointed, but you
will be challenged and inspired to believe you really can be godly through Jesus Christ. This is one
of my favorite books, perhaps because it provoked such thoughts of what true surrender is in the life
of the Christian. Should you ever find yourself driven to know the truth about the surrendered life,
select this book and encounter the concepts within. I would recommend this book to current
believers who wish to take their relationship with the Lord to the next level. His writing is geared
towards adults, as the language is appropriate for advanced

Personal Narrative: My Personal Identity
When I introduce myself I will state my name and something they would either know or remember
me by. Never would I immediately go into a story on who I am or how I found my identity. That,
quite frankly, is a little too much to handle. If they were to get to know me, they would discover
many things about just exactly who Kaitlin Wyse is. I was born in Phoenix, Arizona to my mother
and father and was raised there all my life. I had a great childhood being raised in a Christian school
and attending my beloved church. I became a Christ follower by age four and have continued in my
walk with God ever since. From an early age it was obvious that I was a natural born leader. I cared
for everyone I came into contact with discovering an unconventional love, especially with the
outcasts and lonely. Everyone knew me as the girl so extroverted I could befriend a stranger on the
street. I obtained an unforeseen love and empathy for people which drew people to me even more. I
had a wonderful life, or at least I thought I did. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The more I grew with age, the more difficult living with him became. Without request or consent, I
became his best friend and therapist all in one package. This quickly became a highly toxic and
abusive relationship. I never knew what side of him I would get; the kind and loving father, or the
spawn of Satan that hated his life and everything in it, including me. From age twelve to fifteen, life
got tough, and quick. My father was so verbally and emotionally abusive I stated to slit my wrists
out of the shame because of the dreadful things no father should ever say to his daughter. I became
intensely depressed and had constant anxiety attacks. Then on October fourth, two–thousand and
fifteen, my whole world

Technical Issues : Construction Of The Platform
4. Technical issues:
Construction of the platform:
The platform was comprised of four main modules: A– Module controlling the flow of
hydrocarbons and water produced from the wells. B– Were the separation of oil from other fluids
took place, and then the oil was pumped into the main oil line for the transmission onshore. It was a
production module. C– The gas compression and gas processing module D– For utilities: contained
the 'control building', generators, and switchgear.

the study group on the long term psychological effect of Piper Alpha disaster and PTSD. They
agreed to give interviews and completed questionnaires, the study showed that: 97% of the group

How To Infect Salmon
At first when I started college, I was on the path to become a biologist. I wanted to get more
experience in the field, so I asked my advisor, Doctor Amanda Gunn, if there was had any
opportunities for me to get hands–on experience in my field. She said she was studying Aeromonas
Salmonicida, a bacterium that causes diseases in salmon. She wanted me to use bioinformatics tools
to learn about its ability to infect salmon. The goal was to determine if certain aspects of the
bacterium could be modified or "genetically engineered" so the salmon's immune system would be
able to respond more efficiently. This lead me down the path of bioengineering, a field of study
where genetic material is altered for certain characteristics. After completing the ... Show more

I go to church on Saturday and while I am not out with my age group every week, I'm with a people
who are at least a decade older or younger than me. Some of these people don't get to talk people to
people much so it's fun listening to their stories and fun having someone to listen to them. People
like military members, outdoorsman, and engineers. I also heard about the experience of being
homeless. Aberdeen gets very rainy and cold at night, so not having a place to stay is awful. The
rain from that isn't drained gets all over the sidewalk and whoever has to walk there for just 10
minutes gets their shoes soggy and moist. Imagine walking around all day and sleeping all night in
that! Being homeless also means it harder to afford find food. Hearing these stories from people I
talked to every week made me want to do something about it. I ran for ASB of my high school and
became the Senior Class President. I used my position to organize foodball, an event where two
cities compete to raise the most resources for the Coastal Harvest. That is a food storage facility that
donates to food banks across the State of Washington in times of emergency. The year I was running
it the two cities competing were Hoquiam and Aberdeen. Even though the name was foodball, it
wasn't just food we were collecting. It was also money to donate to and help raise resources for food
banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts. I cleaned up after the events, dressed up as a mascot and danced
to raise money for several events. I was even able to run an intercity dodgeball game. A game which
Aberdeen won. Although Aberdeen didn't beat Hoquiam in the end, we managed to beat the amount
of food raised last year. After foodball ended, I decided I wanted to do more. I became a deacon at
my church and several times a month I help run the P.A., fix broken things around the church with
my dad, and count and collect offering. While Aberdeen does have a "punk" flair to it, I feel it

Review of Article on Arsenic Crisis in Bangladesh
Summary: The people of Bangladesh were dying and getting ill from water. This water was
provided through tube wells that were connected to an underground aquifer. Such actions were taken
on the 1980's, when many children died from diarrhea. This project facilitated the lives of many
since their people did not have to walk long distances and carry heavy jars full of water.
Unfortunately, the water was not checked for arsenic. A dermatologist believed the water from the
tube wells contained arsenic but the British Geological Survey insisted it was safe. Today the
tubewells are known to have 50 micrograms of arsenic per liter. The article also explains some of
the symptoms that could be experienced after 10 years of consuming arsenic contaminated water,
these include: black spots, conjunctivitis, bronchitis, diarrhea, etc. The Bangladesh government
borrowed money but has not yet taken action since they do not know how to solve this issue. The
Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee trained 160 volunteers to test the tubewells and identify
the symptoms of arsenicosis. Many of their volunteers also made maps to inform people of safe
tubewells and ponds. 1. What was the purpose or point in writing this article? This article was
written to inform people of the hardships poor countries face and to encourage us to be more
involved in issues that concern our health. In the article, The British Geological Survey reassure the
villagers that their water was safe, however, the water

Brazilian fiscal policy
Fiscal policy refers to use of government revenue collection and expenditure to influence its
economy. Fiscal policy targets a country's budget of its economic activities. Government can adjust
its spending and taxation levels through changing the income distribution, resource allocation or
level of aggregate demand and economic activity. In the context of Brazil, in 1970s, the government
put some stringent penalties to regulate its imports. The government kept the import tax and
penalties high. To implement the policies, the government applied tax deduction on imports, for
instance, a Brazilian resident who imported intangibles like knowhow, software and royalties would

The pressure of trade imbalance and oil shock sharply increased the import bill (Pessoa, 2004).
The stringent policy of imports tax and duties was seen as a high growth policy. The strategy can be
effective in enhancing growth but the main components considered should be basic industrial inputs
like fertilizers, steel, petrochemicals etc. However, import substitution and restrictions policies do
not favor intangible good especially technology software and knowhow which are often bound to
importation. Concerning the companies that require inputs like software, the policy is likely to result
in reduced public investment. For instance, the inflation and crisis that followed in 1981 to 1983 so
a reduction Brazils gross investment from 21% to 16%. Some of the things that have been quoted as
the reasons for the declines was increased uncertainties in the future of the economy. Such
uncertainties are posed by unfavorable fiscal policies. In the case of Commutronics, the company
fought to invest in the country in amidst of unfavorable policies, however, few companies would
stand such policies such policies particularly where the deductions were affecting shareholders
capital as was the case for Commutronics (Poterba, 1999).

Nick And Nicole Fischer
Nick and Nicole Fischer are an Aberdeen–based artist couple who have made a significant
contribution to the artistic community and culture of Aberdeen and South Dakota. As Northern State
University alumni, they are both fully established as distinct artists and together represent a force
and a voice that has already left a mark on the contemporary art world of the Midwest. Throughout
the last decade, they have been engaging the local community in a multitude of exhibitions,
performances, and educational activities. Their love for one another and their love of art is what
binds them and their investigative approach connects their distinctive styles in a common
conceptual strategy.

patient and repetitive movement of the hand dropping sand on a surface is mirrored in Nicole's
approach to constructing her mandalas, with an evident connection to meditation.
Symbolism is a key consideration for Nicole. Motherhood is a theme throughout her work and is

'Slow and steady wins the race', they say. Nothing best describes my passage through life as does
this adage: mine has been flanked by academic challenges and high family standards. Yet, I have not
only always pulled through but have done so most gallantly, even finishing best at some levels.
Primary and Secondary Schools education were for me, not quite fulfilling, that is at first. I was
quite poor in Mathematics. Having older siblings who excelled in all subjects did not make it any
easier. Everyone compared me with them. As a result, I had a low self esteem and continued to

Even so, I realized that I would have to thrive among a large class of students most of whom could
already read, write and speak French. With a foundation steeped in resolve, I again made up my
mind to give it my best shot. I decided to do more than merely survive and so, I began teaching, on
Saturdays, at a French club for children between the ages of 3 and 14. I used songs and poems as
learning aids and assisted them in doing assignments from their various schools. I also spent hours
in the university library, poring over any book that was written in French, and checking up French
vocabulary in my dictionary. Although I had to sacrifice time that would have been used in leisure,
it was well worth the effort. I graduated 5th best in a class of 135 people. The secret of my conquest
was simple, albeit riddled with painstaking attempts and occasional failures: 'If you fail, try again!'
Learning French also fulfilled my interests in traveling. I had the opportunity to visit French–
speaking African countries like Benin Republic and Togo. I did not only become fluent in the
language, but also came to understand how the culture, beliefs, and traditions of man shape what
values he represents. Likewise, I realized that factors such as art, literature, language, music, dance,
laws, wars among others, are all key in the

What Is The Construction Of The Triple System
The timbers were thought to indicate timber–lacing in the walls but are likely to support a wall–
walk or a similar structure. Carbon dating has given us an age range of AD340 and AD610, which is
according to MacKie (1969) for the construction of the fort. It has been claimed that the fort was
Roman however MacKie (1969) argues with the evidence that it was built by Picts in the early parts
of the period and did not exist during the roman occupation of southern Scotland (MacKie, 1969). A
project conducted by professor Ian Ralston aimed to find out whether the triple outerworks are

Excavation of deposits within the lookout showed that it had been built on top of a surviving
rampart core material with little resultant disturbance of the rampart beneath (Johnson M., 2002). A
section excavated through the rampart at this point showed that it was stone–built with no evidence
of timber–lacing. The body of the rampart consisted of a mixture of large stones and apparently
quarried sandstones with pockets of large beach pebbles, within a sand matrix. Fragments of
sandstone were present throughout. There appeared to be little organised structure of the ramparts
construction. It could have been seen although with little variation that pockets of beach pebbles
were prevalent. Larger stones were visible towards the basal section, with more voids present,
perhaps indicating that a layer of basal stones had been laid on the ground surface initially to mark
out the line of the rampart or provide a firm foundation. The section of rampart excavated measured
8m wide and 3–3.25m high. Excavating could not extend to the inner and outer faces of the rampart
as constraints were imposed by working within the confines of the building (Johnson M., 2002).
Beneath the rampart was discovered well preserved organic deposits. Further examination of these
deposits discovered two old land surfaces separated by windblown sand, with relict dune sands

Even though fine arts and music have historically been the possession of the powerful, wealthy, and

arts even though we are simply a middle class family. For all of my life, I have associated myself
with being in the middle class, even though I maintain some poverty level values of stretching my
money to make it go further and to save some money for the future and for emergencies. In reality, I
believe that most middle class people tend to live by these values. Basically, we have some

Community Oriented Policing
Community Oriented Policing
In spite of the fact that the United States still exceeds many other industrialized nations in overall
crime and violent crime, it has been effective in decreasing its crime rate, particularly during the
1990s. While some coalitions have attributed this positive development to changes in socio–
demographic trends and rigid enforcement approaches, one coalition highlights the success of the
community–oriented policing and problem–oriented policing in eradicating the root causes of crime
(Stephens, 2003). While I don't believe that community oriented policing in the sole cause of
decreased crime rates I do believe that it has its positive and negative sides.
Community oriented policing is based on the complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with this model is that it is difficult for police departments to dedicate officer to public
relations while there are serious crimes that need to be prevented. The idea of the public reporting
crimes to the police in a community meeting is acceptable but in many cases especially with the
current economic crisis that we are facing, it is impossible for police departments to have officers
strictly assigned to community police. As discussed earlier without full cooperation from both sides
the practice of community police is ineffective.
The community policing plan created by the City of Aberdeen in Maryland provides a good
example of how the partnership between the police and members of the community can be effective
for dealing with crimes. In order to promote the police and community's adoption of these new
roles, the Mid–Atlantic Regional Community Policing Institute (MARCPI), along with the Johns
Hopkins University, will offer training to the police and the community. Both the police and the
community have to learn how to change their thinking processes in order to deal with the problems
in a proactive way, instead of the conventional reactive fashion. Through the training sessions, the
members of the community, the police officers and city department heads will acquire the skills and
knowledge for addressing problems. The involvement of the city department heads and other

involving consumers in decisions regarding the allocation of scarce health service resources.
Specifically, two levels of consumer participation are highlighted and discussed. These are: (1) at
the level of deciding whether or not a particular service should be introduced or its scale changed;
and (2) at the level of deciding how best to provide a service once it has been decided that the
service will be provided. The limitations of the current methods of involving consumers are outlined

1.1 Purpose and Scope
This assignment is included in the 2014 session of the Risk Management module of the MSc in
Project Management course at University of Aberdeen. The main purpose of the assignment is to
demonstrate my understanding of the issues involved in Risk Management and how they are applied
in my current Project environment. The assignment is split in to two questions as detailed below.
Question 1a
Explain the difference between qualitative and quantitative risk management and how each method
can be used to manage a project. Describe one method of each.
Question 1b
Discuss the risk management process presented in the course text (Page 8 of session 1). Apply it to a
specific risk present in your own workplace and pay particular attention to any secondary risks that
may be introduced.
1.2 Methods and Approach
In addition to reading the course notes, I also looked at what APMBOK (Association for Project
Management, Body of Knowledge 2009, 6th Edition, UK) said about this critical area of Project
Management. Additionally, I researched what my Company does to maximize their effectiveness in
this area by studying their attitude towards Risk Management throughout the complete life–cycle of
a project, and finally I drew from my own knowledge and experiences in this critical area.
1.3 Conclusions
In conclusion I found my Company has a robust Risk Management system, and this is driven
through the WGPSN Risk Management Procedure, which

Retrospective Memory Essay
This article is mainly about prospective memory (PM) in normal aging and dementia. Researchers
of this study believed that there has not been a lot of research on this important type of memory,
which plays a crucial role in allowing people to remember to do things in the future; but instead
there are plenty studies about retrospective memory (RM). Given this fact and because of previous
research, researchers of this study were interested in examining not only one, but both PM and RM
in normal aging and dementia. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of normal
aging and dementia by doing a series of PM and RM tasks. This study consisted in two experiments.

older adults participants. But, contrary to what researchers expected in experiment 1, time–event

Wired For Weight Loss Research Paper
Female Brain: Wired For Weight Loss? Overview We are living in an era where there is a rise in
lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, stroke and high blood pressure. These conditions are indeed
serious and are mostly triggered by poor lifestyle choices. While most people know the causes of
such illnesses, few take the steps to keep the causes at bay. One of the know causes is excess weight.
From being overweight to obesity, you are putting yourself at risk. Females and Weight Loss The
issue of losing weight has been on the rise. Dieting and exercise are the major techniques that are
used. While you would expect that the journey would be the same for both genders, studies have
shown that it is a more challenging journey for the females. A research ... Show more content on

This may be attributed to the amplified appetite due to hormonal changes. Ensure you get at least six
hours of undisturbed sleep and if you are suffering from a sleeping disorder such as insomnia, have
it treated as soon as possible. 3. Eating Too Many Calories A look at weight loss news shows that
the number of calories being consumed is greatly disturbing. While there are so many campaigns
going on with the aim of creating healthy eating awareness people are continuing to overeat. Most
of the calories come from carbohydrates and fats. Try to substitute much of these foods with fruits
and vegetables. Avoid junk food especially sweetened drinks. Conclusion As we have seen, the
female brain is not wired for weight loss. There is hope that very soon gender specific treatments for
obesity will be created to help those who have been struggling with the weight loss. However, may
be the most effective way of dealing with this condition is leading a healthy lifestyle. While
hereditary factors and some conditions may play a role in this condition, most are times you will
find this condition is avoidable. Exercise, healthy eating and a clear mindset will help you

Alzheimer's Childhood
Studies have indicated that exercise improves memory and cognition in older adults and we know
nutrition at all stages of life has an important role. All of these ways to keep the brain healthy and
even improve its health are, in a sense, external. What can the brain do to help itself? At what point
in development should it start? This is not a question a parent thinks about for their child when
contemplating their welfare. It is not something one thinks about as a child, adolescent, young adult
or even mature or senior adult. There are more "important" things to consider than to try speculating
on a future so far ahead as to whether a person is going to develop Alzheimer's disease (AD) or
dementia. To a family affected by AD or dementia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

local people in 1999 from SMS47. "The Aberdeen cohorts were studied from ages 77 to 88
(SMS32) and from age 64 to 68 (SMS47)" (Whalley et al., 2011). The researchers wanted to
identify major childhood influences in risks for dementia and they believed that because the
proposed risk factors for AD were found equally in childhood (e.g. years of fulltime education,
childhood intelligence, socioeconomic adversity, death of a parent, family history of dementia,
APOE e4 carrier status) as compared to in late life (e.g. deficiencies of the vitamins B6, B9 and
B12, head injury, sedentary lifestyle, risk factors for vascular disease). Data would be required from
a long life course to build a full model of Alzheimer risk. They were able to use the surveys to adjust
the data for the contribution of childhood mental ability to compare to the adult behavior patterns.
This gave them the estimation of lifetime change. The recognized that the lack of exposure of data,
between the surveys and information gathered in the adult interviews, was an important limitation to
the study design. This can be eliminated with current longitudinal studies being

The Feminist Struggle Under Islam Essay
Tentative Title I propose to title the research paper "The Feminist Struggle Under Islam: How Can
Women Become Empowered Under an Inherently Patriarchal System?"
II.
Research Problem Numerous articles and books by prominent authors such as Malise Ruthven,
Farida Shaheed, and A.Z. Hilali, address the rights, or lack thereof, of Muslim women living under
Islamic law. Each author provides an in–depth look at the struggles and analyzes their causes. These
accounts explain how sexist interpretations of Islam, cultural customs and traditions, and
hierarchical and dominant structures within the Muslim community are utilized to oppress the rights
of women and to maintain a patriarchal, political system. And, a few of these reports even address
some of the advances reformers have made in resolving the legal inequalities confronting Muslim
women. However, many of these accounts fail to adequately propose solutions as to how to continue
to improve the social and legal status of Muslim women and how to protect women against the
backlash against reforms that have already been made. Malise Ruthven, an Anglo–Irish scholar and
former instructor of Islamic studies, cultural history, and comparative religion at the University of
Aberdeen, Scotland, provides an acute understanding when discussing the status of women and
Islam. In his book Islam: A Very Short Introduction, Ruthven divides his chapter "Women and
Family" into sections which address women and the Sharia, marriage and divorce,

Bowlby 's Theory Of Attachment
The aim off this assignment is to demonstrate my knowledge on Bowlby's theory of attachment by
been able to apply it to Neil from the programme 56 Up. In this assignment I will be analysing
Neil's life and explaining his transition from child hood to adolescent with the help of Bowlby life
course theories. Throughout this assignment I will be using an adequate amount of literature to
support my statements.
I 've decided to concentrate on Neil from the programme 56 Up, the reasoning behind this is that
Neil 's life ended up being maybe the most unpredictable of the group. During the show we witness
Neil transition from a happy seven year old who had big aspiration to go to Oxford University (56
Up, 2012) to make a future for himself to him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Neil always had ambition to be in politics it was no surprise that by the time of 42 up he was
involved in politics, as a liberal Democrats in the London borough of hackney (56 Up, 2012) . As
the programme progressed we saw Neil relocate to the North West of England to become a District
councillor. When the programme came to an end we were able to see Neil become less agitated and
much more jubilant.
The theory of attachment was originally developed by John Bowlby (1907 – 1990), a British
psychoanalyst. Bowlby's explanation of attachment hints that children come into the world
biologically pre–programmed to form attachments with other, because this will avail them to
survive. According to Bowlby, crying, clinging and searching our behaviours displayed by infants as
a result of separation from their primary caregiver and a response to re–establish proximity. Bowlby
proposed the idea of monotropy, this is when an effective emotional bond is formed between an
infant and one particular individual. Bowlby suggested that there is a critical period for attachment
to be formed between an infant and caregiver. This means that if an attachment is not formed
priority to the first two years of infancy it would not be possible to form an attachment after this
period. Thus meaning that the child will suffer irreversible long–term consequences as a result of
maternal deprivation. Bowlby used the term maternal deprivation to refer to the

The Importance Of The Cardiac System Of Care, The...
Introduction The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust continues to make notable
investments in the health sector for improving the quality of care in the Midwest (Iowa, Minnesota,
Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming) through its Rural Healthcare
Program. These initial investments pivot around the cardiac system of care and provide assistance to
the emergency medical services (EMS) by equipping them with medical devices such as Automatic
External Defibrillator's (AED), mechanical CPR device LUCAS 2 and Simulation training support.
To understand the scope of the cardiac system of care, the healthcare and evaluation professionals
from the state of South Dakota conducted full scale mock exercises during Summer 2014 to
understand the flow of patient information, which directly affects the quality of care, across three
sub–systems Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), EMS and Hospitals. It was then identified that all
the three sub–systems have independent software and their databases are not inter–linked, which
creates an obstruction in the continuum of care (CoC) for the patient. Considering the dependencies
of the above sub–systems, the Stakeholders (Table 2) initiated a Pilot in June 2015 which consists of
a database driven computer model. This model would link the sub–systems with a common dataset,
thus creating a streamlined system of patient record management. Evaluation Goal The goal of this
evaluation is to determine the effectiveness of the

The Insularity Of Corruption In Dante's Inferno
The insularity of corruption is shown throughout Inferno; Dante himself is influenced by the
suffering souls, which conveys the idea that hell itself promotes stagnancy and further moral decay.
Both Welsh and Selby employ this notion, as the characters influence and are influenced by the
place. Characters like Spud, who one could say is the moral center of the novel might have been
different if they were not surrounded by greed. He has a brief realization of this during the section
'Na Na and other Nazis', as discussed in the chapter on Melancholia, however Leith's insidious
nature continuously corrupts him into doing more drugs, and committing crimes of petty theft which
he knows is a type of 'tradition' in his family. Renton on the other ... Show more content on

The characters in LETB, all suffer in a way that commitment to their sins, mirroring Dante's use of
contrapasso. In LETB, it seems that they characters are not only being punished by each other; but
also by greater society whom relegated them to an insular, impoverished community, where
corruption is seemingly the only way to 'get by'. Tralala prostitutes herself in order to gain the
wealth that is enjoyed just outside of Sunset Park in New York City, and is punished by being raped
to death. Georgette wants the 'American Dream', and deludes herself with drugs which inevitably
leads to her downfall, conveying that the 'Dream' is not accessible for people like her. Harry on the
other hand, is crucified for his homosexuality and conveyed perhaps metaphorically as a pedophile.
Selby seems to convey here, that Harry is a stand in for the treatment of homosexuals in the United

movie adaptation of his novel be filmed he cried out 'That poor son of a bitch, he only wanted to be

The Importance Of Motivation On Student Experience
Motivation plays a crucial role in the day–to–day life of every human being. It is responsible for the
different decisions we make every day, the goals we set, and how we go about attaining those
objectives. Without motivation, completing tasks and accomplishing goals will prove difficult, often
impossible. In this essay I am going to discuss the importance of motivation in maximising my
student experience in the University of Aberdeen. I am also going to describe Alderfer's ERG
Theory, Vroom's Expectancy Theory and Locke's Goal Theory, and show how these motivation
theories apply to my intention to make the most of my student experience.
Motivation is the energy, the driving force behind our actions. Motivation determines the goals a
person attempts to achieve, the energy that is devoted to attaining the goal and the persistence with
which the goal is pursued (Smith, 2011, p. 182). Every student comes to the university with the
intention to graduate and obtain a diploma therefore an extrinsic motivation is present in the student
life. There is certain recognition for people who have been successful in their chosen degrees, and
there is a social pressure that everyone faces to not fail a course and drop out of the university. An
intrinsic element of motivation is also a factor in our studies. We experiment with many different
subjects during our course of study, and we decide on a discipline that we would enjoy pursuing
throughout our career. I chose to study Economics as

Motivation Theory And The University Of Aberdeen
The University of Aberdeen offers an array of subjects, societies and sport clubs as well as
employment and volunteering opportunities to its students. With this massive range of activities,
how and why do we students choose to study and take part in the few that we do? What is it that
motivates us to commit to our decisions? Motivation can be described as the 'internal and external
factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a
job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal'1. There are three main components of
motivation that have been identified to drive a person's choice, these are; direction: a person's goal,
effort: the energy used to achieve a goal, and duration: the persistence in pursuing a goal2. Is it
possible to use a motivation theory or theories to understand the choices we make at the University
of Aberdeen?
Before we begin university we have already dedicated ourselves to our major subject, that we

Critique Of Social Support And Migration
Critique of Social Support and Migration in Scotland Project on Experiences of Social Security and
Prospects for Long Term Settlement in Scotland amongst Migrants from Central Eastern Europe and
Former Soviet Union.
1. Introduction
Academics in the United Kingdom have a long experience of conducting research on migrants and
refugees. However, when ten Eastern European states joined the European Union in 2004 and 2007,
and many new migrants arrived, it became a challenge to an academic world to investigate this new
phenomenon. One of the attempts to comprehend this unknown territory is the research conducted
by the University of Glasgow and the University of Swansea; called the Social Support and
Migration in Scotland (SSAMIS). Their research tries to study "perspectives and experiences of
'social security ' amongst migrants from Central Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union in
Scotland."
The purpose of this essay is to critically discuss if in overall the SSAMIS project is a successful
piece of research. This is a challenging task as the research still has not been finished. Nevertheless,
it is possible to look at their research methods and initial findings to say if the research seems to
achieve its aims.
In order to do it, this essay will be divided into three main parts: 1) overview of the research
conducted by SSAMIS, 2) research methods, and 3) initial findings. In each part, the discussion on
the research will be conducted with the presentation of some examples

The Accomplishments of Bertha Wilson
Bertha Wilson was a remarkable woman who changed the face of the Supreme Court of Canada
forever. She was the first woman appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of
Canada, and the first female partner in a major law firm. Even though she wasn't a Chief Justice, it
was a huge accomplishment for a woman to be a Puisne Justice. Bertha Wilson was chosen for my
Heritage Fair topic because Bertha worked hard even when she knew that no woman had been
where she had been before. This essay will explain different times in Bertha's life and how she made
her mark in the books of Great Canadian Women.
Bertha Wilson was born to Archibald and Christina Noble Wernham on September 18th 1923 in
Kirkcaldy, Scotland. Bertha was the youngest of two boys and one girl. Bertha knew her father as a
gentle and devout man. She remembered her mother as a stern, but gentle woman who believed that
females were to have the same things as males, including a well education. Her mother was sure to
have all three children groomed and well fed at all times. The Wernham's moved to Aberdeen( a two
hour drive from Kirkcaldy) when Bertha was three years old so she doesn't have many memories of
her time on Kirkcaldy. In Aberdeen, Bertha became very fond of the boy across the street, Jackie.
Jackie was the youngest of three children as well. One of Bertha's and Jackie's favourite activities

Even though the name was foodball, it

banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts.

Diet : A Major Lifestyle Related Risk Factor Of A Wide...
Introduction Diet is a major lifestyle–related risk factor of a wide range of chronic diseases(15).
Optimal eating is associated with increased life expectancy, dramatic reduction in lifetime risk of all
chronic disease, and amelioration of gene expression(PMID: 24641555 ). It is known that an
unhealthy diet can induce type 2 diabetes, obesity, Stroke, Cardiovascular disease, hypertension,
inflammation, depression(Lucas et al, 2013), and micronutrients deficiency. On the other hand, a "
good " diet, such as a diet with less fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol, and more carbohydrate, fiber,
vitamins and minerals can improve the general health of the elderly and improve cognitive function.
(Dietary intake and cognitive function in a group of elderly People.(Ortega et al, 1997 ) ) Therefore,
it is worth to measure diet intake to describe food intake of an individual or a group by dietary
analysis. By using dietary assessment methods, energy and nutrient consumptions can be assessed to
give information for concerning both public health and individual nutritional status. There are ample
methods to assess dietary intake. For a large number of individuals, food frequency questionnaire
and 24–hour recall can provide a relatively inexpensive and standardised way of collecting
information (Dietary intake measurements Ingrid HE Rutishauser). There are also approaches more
accurate in assessing dietary intake. For laboratory–based dietary studies, duplicate diet analysis,

Andrew Murray Religion

  • 1. Andrew Murray Religion Introduction Andrew Murray was born in Cape Town, South Africa; Murray became a noted missionary leader. His father was a Scottish Presbyterian serving the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa, and his mother had connections with both French Huguenots and German Lutherans. This background to some extent explains his ecumenical spirit. He was educated at Aberdeen University, Scotland, and at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. After ordination in 1848 he served pastorates at Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town, and Wellington. He helped to found what is now the University College of the Orange Free State and the Stellenbosch Seminary He served as Moderator of the Cape Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church and was president of both the YMCA (1865) and the South Africa General Mission (1888–1917), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I joke that he is a dead mentor to me, because when I read his writings there is a longing in me to imitate his faith, his passion for God, his conviction about being holy, his understanding about the grace of God. I admire just how plainly and affectionately he wrote about heavenly things as though he truly understood them. I just sit amazed at what God revealed to him and wonder if I will ever truly know without a shadow of a doubt the things he speaks about. His writings are not just fluff, but are the meat and potatoes of Christianity. If you read them you will not be disappointed, but you will be challenged and inspired to believe you really can be godly through Jesus Christ. This is one of my favorite books, perhaps because it provoked such thoughts of what true surrender is in the life of the Christian. Should you ever find yourself driven to know the truth about the surrendered life, select this book and encounter the concepts within. I would recommend this book to current believers who wish to take their relationship with the Lord to the next level. His writing is geared towards adults, as the language is appropriate for advanced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Personal Narrative: My Personal Identity When I introduce myself I will state my name and something they would either know or remember me by. Never would I immediately go into a story on who I am or how I found my identity. That, quite frankly, is a little too much to handle. If they were to get to know me, they would discover many things about just exactly who Kaitlin Wyse is. I was born in Phoenix, Arizona to my mother and father and was raised there all my life. I had a great childhood being raised in a Christian school and attending my beloved church. I became a Christ follower by age four and have continued in my walk with God ever since. From an early age it was obvious that I was a natural born leader. I cared for everyone I came into contact with discovering an unconventional love, especially with the outcasts and lonely. Everyone knew me as the girl so extroverted I could befriend a stranger on the street. I obtained an unforeseen love and empathy for people which drew people to me even more. I had a wonderful life, or at least I thought I did. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The more I grew with age, the more difficult living with him became. Without request or consent, I became his best friend and therapist all in one package. This quickly became a highly toxic and abusive relationship. I never knew what side of him I would get; the kind and loving father, or the spawn of Satan that hated his life and everything in it, including me. From age twelve to fifteen, life got tough, and quick. My father was so verbally and emotionally abusive I stated to slit my wrists out of the shame because of the dreadful things no father should ever say to his daughter. I became intensely depressed and had constant anxiety attacks. Then on October fourth, two–thousand and fifteen, my whole world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. How To Infect Salmon At first when I started college, I was on the path to become a biologist. I wanted to get more experience in the field, so I asked my advisor, Doctor Amanda Gunn, if there was had any opportunities for me to get hands–on experience in my field. She said she was studying Aeromonas Salmonicida, a bacterium that causes diseases in salmon. She wanted me to use bioinformatics tools to learn about its ability to infect salmon. The goal was to determine if certain aspects of the bacterium could be modified or "genetically engineered" so the salmon's immune system would be able to respond more efficiently. This lead me down the path of bioengineering, a field of study where genetic material is altered for certain characteristics. After completing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I go to church on Saturday and while I am not out with my age group every week, I'm with a people who are at least a decade older or younger than me. Some of these people don't get to talk people to people much so it's fun listening to their stories and fun having someone to listen to them. People like military members, outdoorsman, and engineers. I also heard about the experience of being homeless. Aberdeen gets very rainy and cold at night, so not having a place to stay is awful. The rain from that isn't drained gets all over the sidewalk and whoever has to walk there for just 10 minutes gets their shoes soggy and moist. Imagine walking around all day and sleeping all night in that! Being homeless also means it harder to afford find food. Hearing these stories from people I talked to every week made me want to do something about it. I ran for ASB of my high school and became the Senior Class President. I used my position to organize foodball, an event where two cities compete to raise the most resources for the Coastal Harvest. That is a food storage facility that donates to food banks across the State of Washington in times of emergency. The year I was running it the two cities competing were Hoquiam and Aberdeen. Even though the name was foodball, it wasn't just food we were collecting. It was also money to donate to and help raise resources for food banks, like socks, shoes, and shirts. I cleaned up after the events, dressed up as a mascot and danced to raise money for several events. I was even able to run an intercity dodgeball game. A game which Aberdeen won. Although Aberdeen didn't beat Hoquiam in the end, we managed to beat the amount of food raised last year. After foodball ended, I decided I wanted to do more. I became a deacon at my church and several times a month I help run the P.A., fix broken things around the church with my dad, and count and collect offering. • 5. Review of Article on Arsenic Crisis in Bangladesh Summary: The people of Bangladesh were dying and getting ill from water. This water was provided through tube wells that were connected to an underground aquifer. Such actions were taken on the 1980's, when many children died from diarrhea. This project facilitated the lives of many since their people did not have to walk long distances and carry heavy jars full of water. Unfortunately, the water was not checked for arsenic. A dermatologist believed the water from the tube wells contained arsenic but the British Geological Survey insisted it was safe. Today the tubewells are known to have 50 micrograms of arsenic per liter. The article also explains some of the symptoms that could be experienced after 10 years of consuming arsenic contaminated water, these include: black spots, conjunctivitis, bronchitis, diarrhea, etc. The Bangladesh government borrowed money but has not yet taken action since they do not know how to solve this issue. The Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee trained 160 volunteers to test the tubewells and identify the symptoms of arsenicosis. Many of their volunteers also made maps to inform people of safe tubewells and ponds. 1. What was the purpose or point in writing this article? This article was written to inform people of the hardships poor countries face and to encourage us to be more involved in issues that concern our health. Fiscal policy targets a country's budget of its economic activities. Government can adjust its spending and taxation levels through changing the income distribution, resource allocation or level of aggregate demand and economic activity. In the context of Brazil, in 1970s, the government put some stringent penalties to regulate its imports. The government kept the import tax and penalties high. To implement the policies, the government applied tax deduction on imports, for instance, a Brazilian resident who imported intangibles like knowhow, software and royalties would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pressure of trade imbalance and oil shock sharply increased the import bill (Pessoa, 2004). The stringent policy of imports tax and duties was seen as a high growth policy. The strategy can be effective in enhancing growth but the main components considered should be basic industrial inputs like fertilizers, steel, petrochemicals etc. However, import substitution and restrictions policies do not favor intangible good especially technology software and knowhow which are often bound to importation. Concerning the companies that require inputs like software, the policy is likely to result in reduced public investment. For instance, the inflation and crisis that followed in 1981 to 1983 so a reduction Brazils gross investment from 21% to 16%. Some of the things that have been quoted as the reasons for the declines was increased uncertainties in the future of the economy. Such uncertainties are posed by unfavorable fiscal policies. The traditional method of making mandalas through the patient and repetitive movement of the hand dropping sand on a surface is mirrored in Nicole's approach to constructing her mandalas, with an evident connection to meditation. Nothing best describes my passage through life as does this adage: mine has been flanked by academic challenges and high family standards. Yet, I have not only always pulled through but have done so most gallantly, even finishing best at some levels. Primary and Secondary Schools education were for me, not quite fulfilling, that is at first. I was quite poor in Mathematics. Having older siblings who excelled in all subjects did not make it any easier. Everyone compared me with them. As a result, I had a low self esteem and continued to perform poorly until my final secondary examinations. It was then that I told myself I could do it. Even so, I realized that I would have to thrive among a large class of students most of whom could already read, write and speak French. With a foundation steeped in resolve, I again made up my mind to give it my best shot. I decided to do more than merely survive and so, I began teaching, on Saturdays, at a French club for children between the ages of 3 and 14. I used songs and poems as learning aids and assisted them in doing assignments from their various schools. I also spent hours in the university library, poring over any book that was written in French, and checking up French vocabulary in my dictionary. Although I had to sacrifice time that would have been used in leisure, it was well worth the effort. I graduated 5th best in a class of 135 people. The secret of my conquest was simple, albeit riddled with painstaking attempts and occasional failures: 'If you fail, try again!' Learning French also fulfilled my interests in traveling. I had the opportunity to visit French– speaking African countries like Benin Republic and Togo. I did not only become fluent in the language, but also came to understand how the culture, beliefs, and traditions of man shape what values he represents. Excavation of deposits within the lookout showed that it had been built on top of a surviving rampart core material with little resultant disturbance of the rampart beneath (Johnson M., 2002). A section excavated through the rampart at this point showed that it was stone–built with no evidence of timber–lacing. The body of the rampart consisted of a mixture of large stones and apparently quarried sandstones with pockets of large beach pebbles, within a sand matrix. Fragments of sandstone were present throughout. There appeared to be little organised structure of the ramparts construction. It could have been seen although with little variation that pockets of beach pebbles were prevalent. Larger stones were visible towards the basal section, with more voids present, perhaps indicating that a layer of basal stones had been laid on the ground surface initially to mark out the line of the rampart or provide a firm foundation. The section of rampart excavated measured 8m wide and 3–3.25m high. Excavating could not extend to the inner and outer faces of the rampart as constraints were imposed by working within the confines of the building (Johnson M., 2002). Beneath the rampart was discovered well preserved organic deposits. Further examination of these deposits discovered two old land surfaces separated by windblown sand, with relict dune sands ... Bowlby proposed the idea of monotropy, this is when an effective emotional bond is formed between an infant and one particular individual. Bowlby suggested that there is a critical period for attachment to be formed between an infant and caregiver. This means that if an attachment is not formed priority to the first two years of infancy it would not be possible to form an attachment after this period. These initial investments pivot around the cardiac system of care and provide assistance to the emergency medical services (EMS) by equipping them with medical devices such as Automatic External Defibrillator's (AED), mechanical CPR device LUCAS 2 and Simulation training support. To understand the scope of the cardiac system of care, the healthcare and evaluation professionals from the state of South Dakota conducted full scale mock exercises during Summer 2014 to understand the flow of patient information, which directly affects the quality of care, across three sub–systems Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), EMS and Hospitals. It was then identified that all the three sub–systems have independent software and their databases are not inter–linked, which creates an obstruction in the continuum of care (CoC) for the patient. Considering the dependencies of the above sub–systems, the Stakeholders (Table 2) initiated a Pilot in June 2015 which consists of a database driven computer model. It is responsible for the different decisions we make every day, the goals we set, and how we go about attaining those objectives. Without motivation, completing tasks and accomplishing goals will prove difficult, often impossible. In this essay I am going to discuss the importance of motivation in maximising my student experience in the University of Aberdeen. I am also going to describe Alderfer's ERG Theory, Vroom's Expectancy Theory and Locke's Goal Theory, and show how these motivation theories apply to my intention to make the most of my student experience. Motivation is the energy, the driving force behind our actions. Motivation determines the goals a person attempts to achieve, the energy that is devoted to attaining the goal and the persistence with which the goal is pursued (Smith, 2011, p. 182). Every student comes to the university with the intention to graduate and obtain a diploma therefore an extrinsic motivation is present in the student life. There is certain recognition for people who have been successful in their chosen degrees, and there is a social pressure that everyone faces to not fail a course and drop out of the university. However, when ten Eastern European states joined the European Union in 2004 and 2007, and many new migrants arrived, it became a challenge to an academic world to investigate this new phenomenon. In the year 1870, Alexander then published another work of his called Logic which in that case was used for a classroom. This book was based on some of the works of his friend John Mill. Alexander Bain also had a place in his heart for development and also social justice. Baine took part in social and political movements at the time. Later after Baine retired from a post called Chair of Logic he worked hard to advocate a reform. The very last years of Alexander's life were spent private. Baine was married twice but he never had any children. Alexander Baine sadly had died September 18th 1903. Alexander Baines final saying was that to put no gravestone on his grave and that his excellent writings would be his monument. My definition of honor fits extremely well with Alexander Baine. He was a very determined person with a strong personality and a very intelligent mind. I think that he should be given the definition of honor for his dedication and great books for the scientific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Art Career Progression I would like to study illustration as it has become clearer to me that this may be the right course for me as well as the right career path. From a young age up until this day I have always had a creative drive and an interest in art. Growing up I was involved in various sorts of art projects and workshops outside of school and during school breaks on recommendation of my teachers. One of the workshops I was involved with was with Peacock Visual Arts, which is an art centre located in Aberdeen that would provide workshops to kids during the summer, it was there my passion for art, primarily sketching grew but at the time I did not have the clear focus to know what it was I wanted to study at university. Prior to applying for this course, I had done two separate Art and design courses at Aberdeen College. I first completed the foundation course which was an introductory course to art and design. I was accepted into the introduction to art and design programme largely due to my drawings and sketches. Though I sometimes found it challenging to learn to work with different mediums, by the end of the year I had managed to pick up on a lot different skills and techniques. The course taught me a lot about the different fields of art and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taking the portfolio building course helped increase the variation of my work through printmaking; digital media, life drawing, sculpture and mixed media classes. Some of the units that we dealt with which I think could be relevant to this course include analytical drawing, design studies, two dimensional design and product design which both fell under graphic design. By the end of the course one of my lecturers found that my strength lied in my illustrative work and encouraged me to move into the HND visual communication course but at that time I was not certain if it was the right decision for ... • 34. The Accomplishments of Bertha Wilson Bertha Wilson was a remarkable woman who changed the face of the Supreme Court of Canada forever. She was the first woman appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada, and the first female partner in a major law firm. Even though she wasn't a Chief Justice, it was a huge accomplishment for a woman to be a Puisne Justice. Bertha Wilson was chosen for my Heritage Fair topic because Bertha worked hard even when she knew that no woman had been where she had been before. This essay will explain different times in Bertha's life and how she made her mark in the books of Great Canadian Women. Bertha Wilson was born to Archibald and Christina Noble Wernham on September 18th 1923 in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. Bertha was the youngest of two boys and one girl. Bertha knew her father as a gentle and devout man. She remembered her mother as a stern, but gentle woman who believed that females were to have the same things as males, including a well education. Her mother was sure to have all three children groomed and well fed at all times. The Wernham's moved to Aberdeen( a two hour drive from Kirkcaldy) when Bertha was three years old so she doesn't have many memories of her time on Kirkcaldy. In Aberdeen, Bertha became very fond of the boy across the street, Jackie. Jackie was the youngest of three children as well. One of Bertha's and Jackie's favourite activities was to play with hoops, or gird sticks as they called them in Scotland. One day Jackie saw that Bertha ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. • 40. Diet : A Major Lifestyle Related Risk Factor Of A Wide... Introduction Diet is a major lifestyle–related risk factor of a wide range of chronic diseases(15). Optimal eating is associated with increased life expectancy, dramatic reduction in lifetime risk of all chronic disease, and amelioration of gene expression(PMID: 24641555 ). It is known that an unhealthy diet can induce type 2 diabetes, obesity, Stroke, Cardiovascular disease, hypertension, inflammation, depression(Lucas et al, 2013), and micronutrients deficiency. On the other hand, a " good " diet, such as a diet with less fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol, and more carbohydrate, fiber, vitamins and minerals can improve the general health of the elderly and improve cognitive function. (Dietary intake and cognitive function in a group of elderly People.(Ortega et al, 1997 ) ) Therefore, it is worth to measure diet intake to describe food intake of an individual or a group by dietary analysis. By using dietary assessment methods, energy and nutrient consumptions can be assessed to give information for concerning both public health and individual nutritional status. There are ample methods to assess dietary intake. For a large number of individuals, food frequency questionnaire and 24–hour recall can provide a relatively inexpensive and standardised way of collecting information (Dietary intake measurements Ingrid HE Rutishauser).
