A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 3. AMPLIFICATION Amplification can be known as just an enhancement of a concept, but it still keeps the meaning of it. It allows the director to be as artistic as possible yet still keep the meaning of the song. For Example, ‘Skyscraper’ by Demi Lovato. The lyrics from the chorus are: “You can take everything I have You can break everything I am Like I'm made of glass Like I'm made of paper Go on and try to tear me down I will be rising from the ground Like a skyscraper Like a skyscraper” The director enhanced the idea of “rising from the ground” in a simple manner by having the artist perform alone in a dessert. The location contrasts with where we would usually see skyscrapers; a city. I think this makes it more effective because it is suggesting that she will be an original skyscraper within the raw grounds. Throughout the song, it still connects to the lyrics.
- 4. ILLUSTRATION Illustration is when a music video uses images to represent a line from the song lyrics as well as genre. For example in ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry. The lyrics of the chorus are: “Cause, baby, you're a firework Come on, show 'em what you're worth Make 'em go, Aah, aah, aah As you shoot across the sky-y-y” When Katy Perry sings the word “Firework” a graphic image of fireworks shoots out from her.
- 5. DISJUNCTURE Disjuncture is when the music video director takes a different spin on the song and does not relate the video to the song at all. Almost like an abstract piece. For example, ‘Can’t stop’ by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. The music video is completely different to what the lyrics are. The band take on random activities throughout the video.
