2. DESIGN NOW PLAYS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN CONSUMER EXPERIENCES.
Good design creates positive experiences between people and products,
spaces or systems.
3. Design’s power lies in its ability to create memorable experiences.
People will always seek out something new - it’s a part of the human
condition. Design's power is in creating richness and meaning by
layering products or spaces with services.
4. Creating experiences which are captivating and engaging is one of the
greatest challenges - but will reap the most rewards!
Doing anything less is a waste of time and money, and will look dated
before it hits the floor.
5. Once a project has gone live with a competitor it may cease to be
“the new.”
To deliver rich experiences to your visitors, one should design with
an eye for what will be innovative in 6 - 12 months time.
8. AUGMENTED STRUCTURES
Sound, music, light, video, mathematics, visual arts and architecture combine for a new type of
building and streetscape experience.
Each of these disciplines is transformed into another, creating a multi-sensory experience on a
“living canvas.” This interdisciplinary design provides a glimpse into what buildings will become
in the future.
9. NETWORKED CITIES
Urban Futures provides a glimpse of how the city streets of the future may work when
networked with vehicles and pedestrians.
Section of road feature LED surfaces linked to 3D cameras that sense the movement of all
traffic. Now roads, sidewalks and public spaces can adapt to its users throughout the day.
10. NANOLUMENS
NanoFlex is the only display of it’s kind, designed to elegantly curve around contoured walls
and wrap around columns. The displays are ultra-slim, energy efficient and lightweight -
revolutionizing the world of digital media.
Exciting end uses included high-end retail, parking structures and transit stations for
commercial media applications.
11. WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY
General Motors R&D has developed a new concept in entertainment technology that uses the
windows themselves for interactive scribbling, sweeping and pinching for a richer experience
on the road.
The interactive displays are capable of stimulating awareness, nurturing curiosity and
encouraging a stronger connection with the outside world.
12. 3D HOLOGRAPHIC PLAYERS
HoloAD is the newest generation of 3D holographic players. With a 180° viewing perspective,
the HoloAD can showcase real products with holographic imagery. The HoloAD is capable of
delivering stunning effects that will keep your visitors talking.
13. E-TABLE
E-table give patrons more control over their dining experience. The tabletops are projections
displays allowing diners to navigate an interactive ordering system.
Images of each meal are projected onto their plate as they browse the menu. The system
allows diners to place their orders, play games, and explore community events.
14. E-SENSE TACTILE SENSATIONS
A new multitouch interface uses small electrical fields on-screen to produce subtle sensations
without the audible feedback that physical vibration tends to cause.
The technology replicates the feeling of texture on virtually any touch interface surface,
whether it’s flat or curved, transparent or opaque.
15. OLED LIGHTING
Lumiblade is Philips' OLED lighting, able to produce a large-area diffused light source.
Unlike incandescent bulbs or fluorescent lamps, OLED lighting works by passing electricity
through one or more extremely thin layers of organic semiconductor material. That makes
it an energy-efficient light source for today’s regulations and budgets.
16. ILIGHT TECHNOLOGIES
iLight's LED lighting systems transform and energize architectural environments.
With balanced illumination output, low energy consumption and a narrow profile to fit in the
most discreet applications, the versatile and bendable LED luminaires provide creative
lighting solutions for interior and exterior use.
17. DIGITAL STORYTELLING: THE FUTURE OF WAYFINDING
New location-based technologies that combine digital mapping and GPS are changing the way we interact
with our surroundings. Finding our way and meeting new people is increasingly a technology-driven expe-
rience.
These new systems promote the idea that the act of getting to a destination is as important as actually
arriving. Exploring the environment along the way makes traveling to a new place more memorable and
enjoyable.
18. FUNWARE
Funware is the use of game mechanics in non-game contexts - encouraging desired user
actions and generating customer loyalty. Funware typically employs game mechanics such as
points, leaderboards, badges, challenges and levels. New opportunities allow for virtual game
play to enter the physical realm.
19. We now have access to a vast array of materials, each one possessing different attributes
which can be further expanded through fabrication processes.
Materials now possess multiple functionalities - self-healing concrete, translucent concrete,
reinforced concrete - and can be tailored to change their mechanical properties - flexibility,
strength, toughness - to suit specific needs.
We've also seen the rise of dynamic materials such as thermotropic materials that change
their optical properties in response to temperature, or shape-changing materials that
respond to heat or electricity.
MATERIALS MATTER
20. CARBON DIOXIDE ABSORBING CONCRETE
Carbon Dioxide Absorbing Concrete is made from a new environmentally friendly blended
cement, incorporating reactive magnesia and wastes such as plastic, paper and glass.
When magnesia hydrates to magnesium hydroxide it will absorb CO2. The more magnesia
within the Eco Cement and the more porous it is, the more CO2 is absorbed.
21. SPLINETEX STRUCTURE
splineTEX is a new composite material based on fibre-reinforced plastic. The lightweight
construction technology allows for free-form technology in architecture.
splineTEX is weatherproof and accomodates different scales and functions without the need
of costly moulding procedures.
22. ELECTROPOLYMERIC DYNAMIC DAYLIGHTING SYSTEM FOR WINDOWS
Existing window technologies remain limited in their response to dynamic solar conditions and
building energy requirements. Electropolymeric display technology provides new opportunities to
transfer electroactive polymers to windows that can meet the lighting, thermal and user
requirements of occupied spaces.
An EDDS creates a pattern that is both dynamic and highly attuned to the environment.
23. ACTIVE PHYTOREMEDIATION WALL SYSTEM
The APWS is a modular system of pods housing hydroponic plants. It is a bio-mechanical hybrid
system that produces fresh air from within buildings. Because the plants’ roots are exposed
instead of being buried in soil, the plants’ air-cleaning capacity increases by 200 to 300 percent.
24. BREATHE BY DIRTT WALLS
Breathe is a simple system for incorporating plants into the tile layer of walls. Breathe can be
mounted to any flat, vertical building surface, is scalable, and easily expanded from one panel to
a monolithic wall of plants.
25. INTERACTIVE WALLS
The 36-foot wall shown is an interactive attraction for all families and visitors. The result
is an engaging live surface driven by simple elements beautifully choreographed.
The entire field of cubes creates an opportunity for a variety of patterns giving a structural and
dimensional appearance that could ‘open up’, rather than just being on the surface of the wall.
