Ancient Egypt revolved around the Nile River, where most Egyptians worked as farmers or laborers while a small group were nobles. Society was strictly hierarchical, with the pharaoh at the top ruling as both political and religious leader, followed by nobles, priests, traders, and peasants, and slaves at the bottom. Egyptians worshipped many gods who had human traits, and only the pharaoh and priests could enter temples, while common people made offerings at home altars. Some of the most important gods included Ra, Osiris, Horus, Isis, and Anubis. Amulets were also important for protection and symbols of power, life, and magic.
