well as woven fabrics. We are one of the few organizations
dealing only with natural dyes.

weaving families in Cambodia. Since its establishment in 2006,
our organization has provided jobs to farmers in poor provincial
villages in the country, helped them learn craft production and
improve the livelihoods of their families.

10. COMMUNITY PROBLEMS01
Low Income Chemical Dye
Pollution
Damaging of
Traditional
Weaving
Industry
Unfair Labor
10
The lack of water resources and
destruction of water reservoir
over decades of civil wars makes
90% of the rice fields be
cultivated only once a year. This
means most of the farmers were
unemployed for at least eight
month a year.
Most of the weavers deal with
chemical dye materials which are
harmful to both environment
and human life. Chemical staining
while the sewage is not properly
built and are causing serious
pollution.
Due to the long civil war and
the Khmer Rouge regime,
hand weaving almost lost its
existence. Moreover, the
system of home based textile
industry in villages were not
very much appropriate for
most of the weaving families.
Many weavers do not receive a
fair payment for their sweat. The
value of weaving has been
devalued. Most of the weavers
are tenant weavers that most of
the profit goes to few rich
families.

Fair Trade
11
Create job opportunities for the
villagers so that besides farming
they have another job in natural
dyeing and hand weaving
industry enabling them to earn
enough living for their families.
Instead of chemical dye which
is harmful to the environment,
we only deal with natural dye.
Even though we use natural
dye, we also built a dyed water
drainage system for bringing
after-use dyed water to a safe
place.
Reconstruct and develop
traditional hand weaving
loom to meet the needs of
modern market. Moreover,
we built a center that
weavers can work and make
good friends with each other.
Fair Trade is happened when
producer get a fair payment.
Women who join our program can
secure themselves a stable income
to support their families.

BUSINESS BENEFITS02
19. OUR IMPACT01
Change
The World
“ ”
19
By the end of 2006, after months of research and resting and an
increase in the number of students, Goel could share its first
naturally dyed yarn to weave with seven families in Bati district.
By 2008, Goel could hire fourteen paid staffs. In February 2012,
we built a village center, which is role as a workshop for
training, producing natural dye and weaving process, on our
purchased 3000 meters square land in Takeo province.
Currently, we have more than thirty members and we share our
life by providing naturally dyed yarn, on a monthly basis, to
some 89 families.
Since its founding, the Goel Community has been providing a
platform for the jobless and the poor in the villages to earn a
living. We are committed to provide economic opportunities for
120 weaving families in Cambodia. Furthermore, we have been
witnessing tremendous changes within the families. Fathers of
weaving families stopped drinking and would work, holding the
wheel during the spinning process, in order to help support the
family, consequently leading to the disappearance of husband-
wife arguments. In addition to parents being able to support
their children's education, many other positive changes have
been taking place within the families.
20. 20
Yourparticipation will help
further our ancient future…
As we seek to provide stability for the poor provincial
families in Cambodia, your participation will help
further our project. Therefore, by purchasing Goel
natural dyed and handwoven products, you will
contribute to our project becoming self-sustainable
and towards helping the weaving families earn a living.
In essence, it will enable the people to recognize the
integrity of self-support.
