Meaning: A representation of Each season in one.


Title: A Day At School
Medium: 3B pencil, 8.5x11 paper.
Meaning: To some students, school is a place for learning, socializing, and
creating. However, that is not the case for ALL students. Some feel scared,
unsafe, dumb, and trapped. They don't know what to do and only can break
down.


Title: A Lovely Day
Medium: 4B pencil, 8.5X11 paper.
Meaning: How do you feel when you're having a great day? Body warm, heart
pumps, bright smiles.. it's a real walk in the park don't you think?


Title: Nightmares From The Bottom.
Meaning: Would you like to see the evil in the back of my mind?


Title: Losers
Meaning: In today's society, bullying runs rampant throughout school,
playgrounds, and even jobs. What does the person who gets bullied think or
feel? A simple child can change from loving human to a bone cold murderer.


Title: Twisted Dreams
Medium: 2B & 3B pencil, 8.5X11 paper.
Meaning: A picture of a dream I had about human anatomy.


Title: The Bee
Medium: medium charcoal, 4B pencil.
Meaning: A test drawing with charcoal.

Meaning: Do you ever feel that you look awful?
Why do we focus on our looks?
Why not focus on the beauty we create inside or around us?
Greater things come from our hands, rather than our eyes.

Meaning: Love what you see, see what you love.

Meaning: No matter how different you are, big or small, light or dark, tall or
short, man or
woman. People
can always
work together
and eventually
understand one
another.


Title: Logical Thinking
Medium: 8.5X11 Paper, 2B pencil.
Meaning: What's on your mind? Each day our brains are working, and a lot of
the time it's over working. Sometimes we find it hard to hold on to the turning
wheel of our thought processes. Imagine if your wheel just stopped. What's on
your mind now?


Title: R.I.P. SERIES# 1
Medium: 8.5X11 Paper and 2B, 4B, & 6B Pencil.
Meaning: God once had a righthand angel named Lucifer. Lucifer and God
were very close and over time Lucifer began having a negative thought. "If
God could have this power, why not I?" After Lucifer’s failed attempt to gain
power, God banished Lucifer from Heaven and created Hell and sent him
there to live forever, thus changing Lucifer to a powerful demon named Satan.

A Note from the Editor

The next edition of this  book will include more drawings by Daniel.   This first
edition is intended to show students how they can create a book.

To see some of the steps, turn the page.

This stepbystep book will take you through the design and creation of an ebook and a
book that eventually is available for sale on the Internet.   This book was generated using
Google Docs and a PDF was created.  That PDF was uploaded to a book publishing site.

This book is dedicated to students who don’t want to do too much and just want to show
the best of their work. The method is used at SunEd High School in Florida to let students
find an authentic reason to write.  “I want to see my name on the Internet” is more
compelling than “You have to submit an essay so that I can pass you.”  The basic purpose
of the “book published by an online publisher” is to get your name on the Internet.
Yes, a web page on Amazon will be created.  A search of “Your name amazon” will lead
the viewer to your book’s page on Amazon.

We hope that you will also build a site today using another free ebook, found at
www.TinyURL.com/showyourwork.  It takes about 3045 minutes to set up the site
and maybe another 90 minutes over a year to maintain the site, depending on what you
want to add or change.  We hope you will follow the recommendations here and get a book
published on Amazon (using Createspace) and you can promote that book using a website
built on Google Sites (using tinyurl.com/showyourwork).

You can have your story in a book.


Find a person.
If you don’t have an idea about “what to write about,” you can interview your
grandmother or an older neighbor.

“I have a project.  I want to interview someone and
learn about recent history.  Tell me something about
five interesting things that you have experienced so
far in your life.”

When the person starts to tell the story, ask, “Oh, and
may I record you?”  Then pull out a mobile phone
and hit “record.”

Record the story and then type it.
If you don’t know how to type with ten fingers, visit one of the free online
tutorials.  Search “free ten finger typing course.”
You can even speak into your phone and get
your introduction typed for you.  Use the
“speech to text” feature.

Create the book on Google Docs

You don’t need Microsoft Office.  You can download free software, such as
OpenOffice.  Or you can use Google Documents on Google Drive.

This is what Google Drive looks
like.

You get here by entering your
GMAIL.com account and then you
type “drive.google.com”

Google Documents

Click on “Document” and start typing.

The document is updated every five or six seconds if you are in wifi.

Get started.
Go ahead.  Find a person to interview or start typing your book into the
computer.

Now.   Tomorrow is too late.

I’ll wait.

Congratulations!
You have finished typing your book!

The 24 steps

Step 1
Register an account on Createspace
Go to Createspace.com

You will see this page.


Focus on the left side.

Click on SIGN UP.

You will see the next page.

Fill in the blanks

Then click on
“Create my account”


This is worth it…
Look at the benefits you will get:

After you register, you’ll get an email message like this:

Go to your email account and click on this message:


You will see this expanded message:

Click on “click here to get started.”


Click on “Set up your book now.”


Go ahead, type in the title of your book.

Then click on “Get started” on Step 3 for “GUIDED”

You will see the following page:

Go ahead and enter the subtitle (if you have one)
and the author(s).

Click “Save and Continue”


Notice on the left side.  You are now past the “Title
Information’ and you are in the “ISBN” step.

The International Standard Book Number  is what
booksellers and other publishers look at to make sure that
you have a unique book.

The cheap way to go is to let Createspace assign you a
number.  Click on “Free CreatespaceAssigned ISBN.”

The screen will change to look like this:

Click on “Assign Free ISBN”

You’ll get something like the following:


Highlight and COPY the ISBN13 and ISBN10 numbers.
Paste those numbers into your Google Document.

My numbers look like this when I pasted them:

I removed the spacing so that
the numbers were on one line.


I added an announcement about CopyLeft.  I hope you will
share your book with others, too.  The second page of the
Google Doc document is for the ISBN and copyright
announcement.

Go back to the Createspace website.

Click on the “Continue” button.


Then you will see this page… it’s exciting!

Now it’s time to go back to your Google Doc and finish your
book. You will need to get the Portable Document Format
(PDF) in perfect shape, because you don’t want to change
anything in the inside after you upload the PDF to
Createspace.

When your book is in perfect shape, it’s time to download a
PDF.

In Google Doc, you will see these choices on the upper left
after you click on “File.”


Scroll down to “Download as” and you will see the following
submenu:


Choose “PDF Document (.pdf)”

The Google Doc program will generate a .pdf and you can
upload it to Createspace.com.


Return to the website and you will see the following page:

You need to match the “trim size” of the book to your PDF.
Click on “Choose a different size” button.


I like the larger format of 8.5 inches by 11 inches.
Select the size of book that you want and click.

You should be back on the “upload” page.

Your document needs to be selected and uploaded.

If your book is not 8.5 inches by 11 inches,
then you need to download the “Word Template”
of the size of book that you want.
Let’s say that you want a 6” by 9” book.  Send the 6x9 Word Template to your
Google Drive and then go into your story, hit “select all” and copy the entire
book.
Enter the 6x9 template and hit “Paste.”
You will then generate the PDF in the file of the smaller book.

Click on the button next to “Upload your book file”

Now you will click on “Browse” and hunt for your PDF.

I found my PDF in the DOWNLOADS section of my
computer’s hard drive. Click on “Open.”


Notice that the PDF’s name now appears in the long box.
Click on the blue “Save” button at the bottom of the page.


You’ll see “processing.” Wait a little and you’ll get the next
choice…

Click on “Start working on your book cover”


Select “glossy” (shiny) or “matte” (not shiny) for the cover.

Then click on the button for “build your cover online.”


Click on “Launch Cover Creator”

I like the wraparound cover called “The Cedar”

CLICK on the image.

You can zoom in using the 100% or 200% buttons.

Start clicking through the choices on the left.


Notice how big the author’s name appears. The standard
format can change the font size by adding more lines to the
box.

I’m going to add a website address. This will make the
author’s name smaller.

Click on “Apply” and you’ll see the change.

That looks less “showy.”


Now we find out how to select the front cover’s image.
Click on “use one of our images” if you don’t have high
quality images.

Click on “Get Started”


Look at the choices. I selected “Arts” and found “books”

When I clicked on one of the photos, I can see how to place
the photo.

The placement of the photo can be altered a bit by clicking
on the dots in the diagram showing three rows of three dots
on the left of the screen.
I didn’t like the way the image was sitting, so I selected the
other free image. Click
on “Next.”

The next task is to
upload a author’s photo.


Select the photo and click on “OPEN.”


The position of the photo depends again on which dot in the
3 x 3 box is selected.
Click on “Next.”


You can see the “logo” has turned off.


Now it’s time to post some text on the back cover.

Any “hard return” or “ENTER” will create an extra line
between paragraphs.


I clearly need to adjust that double space.

There, that’s better. Notice that I’ve added a TinyURL.com
to the text.

I usually leave the background color “as is” for the standard
format.

The font color works with the standard color.

Hit “Submit Cover” when you are happy.


The system reacts by telling you, “Working.”


While your book is being reviewed,
you can complete the other parts…
such as how to distribute your book.

The distribution is interesting.  If you
decide to distribute through
bookstores, there are extra steps to go
through.  You can skip these steps if
you plan to just buy the book online
through the Createspace store.


When the “working” stops, you have a choice to
“Complete Cover.”  Click the blue button.

Click on “Launch Interior Reviewer”

Now you can see if there are any formatting errors.

Click on “Get Started”


The online reviewer usually spots some “errors.”
Many of my books use lower quality photos.
That is a typical “error.”


The system is flexible. I usually click on
“Close Interior Reviewer” and
the printing is usually okay.


Now you can “Skip Interior Reviewer.”

Are you sure? “Yes, Skip”


The system takes you through the cover
Again, so just hit “SAVE”


Hit “continue.”


Hit the blue button at the bottom
“Submit Files for Review.”


Click “CONTINUE”


Go to the bottom and find
“Select a BISAC code” and click “here”


Then you will see


Paste some text from the book in the “description” box.
Click the “Choose” button.

I usually find the “Education” category.

For this book, I selected
“Language Arts” and then I hit
“Choose this Category”

Type in a summary for “Author Biography”
and select the “Country of Publication”
and type in five keywords in the next box.

Then hit “Save & Continue”


The system takes you to the KINDLE publication.
That’s an option for some publishers.
I usually skip this step.


Because you filled out the BISAC info, you can see the
“CreateSpace Direct” arrow is open for selection.


When you click the grey “select” arrows, they turn into blue
“Selected” arrows.
Click on “Save & Continue”


Now it’s time to select your price.

I select the lowest possible price.
I want people reading this book.


Notice what happens when the calculations are made based
on the U.S. price.

You can change the price in Europe by hitting the blue
checked box and “unchecking” the box.


After setting your prices, click on
“Save and Continue.”


The program takes you through the cover again.
Hit “Save and Continue”


Click “Save and Continue.”

Your files are now being checked.
In 24 hours, you can “Click” on “approved.”

When you check back in 24 hours, you will see “Action
Required”... so CLICK.

You can also see the Project Homepage.

Click on “Proof Your Book”

You will be asked to order a review Copy or you can
DOWNLOAD a Digital Proof

I usually click on “Download a PDF Proof”

To order the book, go to “Member Dashboard”

Click on “Order Copies”

The quantities can be changed.

A typical book under 128 pages costs about $2.20.

Bravo! You made it to the end of the book.

If students do not fully understand algebra, they will have a difficult time learning trigonometry. If they
