Orthokeratology, also known as corneal reshaping therapy, uses specially designed contact lenses to temporarily reshape the cornea and reduce or eliminate refractive errors. It allows patients to have clear unaided vision for most of the day by modifying the corneal curvature through overnight lens wear. Studies have shown orthokeratology can slow the progression of myopia in children by an average of 50%. A trial fitting is performed to assess the fluorescein pattern and ensure proper centration, bearing, and tear reservoir before beginning overnight wear to achieve the desired refractive change. Orthokeratology provides an alternative to glasses or surgery and is reversible.

The document discusses various topics related to contact lenses and corneal treatments including:
1) Edge lift and edge clearance in contact lens design and their effects on tear exchange and lens movement.
2) Corneal topography, its uses in evaluating conditions like keratoconus and fitting contact lenses. Different topography devices are also mentioned.
3) Corneal cross-linking for progressive corneal conditions like keratoconus to strengthen the cornea using riboflavin and UV light. Various techniques and the procedure are outlined.
The document summarizes the FluidVision accommodating intraocular lens (IOL) from PowerVision. It describes how the lens works by mimicking the eye's natural accommodative process through fluid movement. Clinical studies show the lens provides both subjective and objective accommodation with excellent visual outcomes. A new FluidVision 20/20 lens is introduced that aims to achieve 20/20 vision at all distances through smaller incisions.
Pediatric management in contact lens-P82502kailiang23
This document discusses pediatric contact lens management and fitting considerations. Key points include:
- Anatomical considerations for pediatric eyes such as shorter axial length and steeper corneal curvature compared to adults.
- Indications for pediatric contact lens fitting include high refractive errors, aphakia, and irregular astigmatism.
- Silicone elastomer, hydrogel, and RGP lenses are commonly used in pediatric fittings, each with advantages and disadvantages.
- A thorough prefitting exam evaluates lid and corneal health before determining initial lens parameters based on age.
- Fitting is assessed using fluorescein pattern and lens movement, with progress evaluated regularly according to age.
LASIK eye surgery is one of the most common laser eye surgery to treat myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. The LASIK procedure reshapes the cornea which enables the light entering the eye to focus on the retina. During laser eye surgery, a computer-controlled excimer laser is used to remove microscopic amounts of tissue from the cornea. The aim is to restore normal eyesight, without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

This document discusses pediatric contact lens management for infants. Key reasons for fitting contact lenses in infants include prevention of amblyopia from anisometropia, accommodative esotropia, high refractive error, or corneal distortion. Fitting contact lenses in infants requires preparation, a comprehensive case history, family involvement, and selection of an initial diagnostic lens based on the infant's expected corneal curvature, diameter, and refractive error. The fitting process involves case history, anterior segment examination, refraction, and over-refraction to account for the infant's inability to accommodate and rapid eye growth in the first 18 months. Frequent prescription changes are needed.
This document provides information about orthokeratology (ortho-k), a non-surgical procedure to reshape the cornea using custom contact lenses worn overnight. It corrects refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Ortho-k lenses gently reshape the cornea while worn at night to improve unaided vision during the day. The document describes the ortho-k procedure, lens design and fitting process, potential candidates who may benefit, and follow-up appointment schedule.
The document discusses an artificial intraocular lens (AIOL) called the FluidVision that mimics the eye's natural accommodative process. It is the first true shape changing, fluid-driven IOL. Early results from a 23 patient pilot study show promising results with a straightforward surgical technique. Bench testing shows the FluidVision provides excellent image quality over a range of powers as it continuously varies between far and near focal points by inflating and deflating the lens using fluid movements. PowerVision is developing additional innovations like a toric version and post-implant adjustment capabilities.

This document discusses a punctal plug drug delivery system called Evolute. It can deliver drugs to treat various ocular diseases like glaucoma, allergies, inflammation, and dry eye. Clinical trials showed excellent plug retention rates over 12 weeks. The system offers benefits like a flexible drug delivery profile, non-invasive application, steady drug elution unlike eye drops, and comfort. It is developing formulations of nepafenac, difluprednate, travoprost, olopatadine, and cyclosporine to treat conditions like post-cataract pain/inflammation and glaucoma. The company has a strong intellectual property position and plans upcoming clinical trials.
This document provides an overview of contact lenses, including their history, uses, types, fitting parameters, and indications/contraindications. Some key points:
- The first contact lenses were developed in the late 1800s but were uncomfortable scleral lenses. Modern soft and rigid gas permeable lenses emerged later.
- Contact lenses are used for vision correction, therapy, prevention of eye issues, diagnosis, surgery assistance, cosmetic purposes, and occupations like sports or acting.
- Lens types include soft hydrogel lenses, silicone hydrogel lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, and the now obsolete hard PMMA lenses. Parameters like material, diameter, base curve, and thickness must be selected properly.
This document provides evidence for fitting children as young as 8 years old with contact lenses. Studies have shown that children ages 8-12 are not more challenging to fit than teenagers ages 13-17. Contact lenses have also been shown to significantly improve quality of life for both children and teens compared to eyeglasses. Corneal reshaping contact lenses can help slow the progression of myopia in children. The age to start fitting depends more on the child's ability and interest rather than their actual age. Potential benefits of fitting children include correcting refractive errors and amblyopia, as well as benefits for binocular vision development and appearance. Risks can be mitigated by ensuring a stable refractive error and compliance with lens care and replacement schedules.
This document provides instructions for caring for and maintaining Forge Ortho-K contact lenses. It emphasizes proper hygiene and cleaning to minimize the risk of eye infections. Key points include: only using recommended solutions to clean lenses; inspecting lenses for damage before wearing; inserting and removing lenses using proper technique; and seeking immediate care if abnormal symptoms occur like pain or redness.

This document discusses success with premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) after cataract surgery. It notes that careful patient selection and managing expectations are important but that the primary determinant of patient satisfaction is achieving the desired refractive outcome, which depends on surgeon performance. The discussion emphasizes minimizing surgeon-induced errors through accurate biometry, proper wound construction based on preoperative astigmatism measurements, and precision in lens placement. Multifocal and toric IOLs are described as options to reduce spectacle dependence, while their benefits and risks are outlined. Overall the document stresses the importance of the surgeon generating an accurate refractive outcome to optimize vision and patient satisfaction after cataract surgery.
Orthokeratology uses rigid gas permeable contact lenses worn overnight to temporarily reshape the cornea and reduce or eliminate low to moderate degrees of myopia and astigmatism. The lenses have a molding effect on the cornea through epithelial redistribution, allowing patients to be correction-free during the day. However, the effect is not permanent and vision returns to the pre-treatment level if lenses are not worn. Ortho-k treatment generally takes one month for effects to stabilize and is most effective for prescriptions between -1.00 to -4.50 diopters of myopia and up to -1.50 diopters of astigmatism.

This document discusses cataracts and presbyopia, as well as treatment options performed by Dr. Helga Fuenfhausen Pizio. A cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens that causes vision problems and is common in older adults. Symptoms include blurry or faded vision. Surgery is the only treatment and involves removing the clouded lens and replacing it with an artificial lens. For presbyopia, which causes near vision issues, multifocal lenses can provide both near and distance vision after cataract surgery without glasses. Dr. Pizio performs cataract surgery using small incisions and ultrasound and was the first in Nevada to implant a new multifocal lens.

Types of pediatric contact lens [autosaved]Bipin Koirala
This document discusses pediatric contact lens fitting and evaluation. It begins by outlining the advantages of contact lenses over glasses for children, including a wider field of view. Key considerations for fitting include small eye size, tear production, and compliance. Conditions that may require lenses include refractive errors, amblyopia treatment, and aphakia following cataract surgery. Evaluations include testing visual acuity and ocular health. Lens options discussed are silicone, hydrogel, and rigid gas permeable lenses. Special fitting considerations for aphakic children include initially high powers of +20D to +35D, depending on age.
A cornea transplant (keratoplasty) is a surgical procedure that involves replacing part of your cornea with corneal tissue from a donor. Your cornea is a transparent, dome-shaped surface of your eye. It is where light enters your eye and is a large part of your eye's ability to see clearly.
Although optometrists do not perform laser vision correction here in the United States, they can still provide a valuable role in this procedure that is gaining unprecedented popularity.
Cataract surgery is a common outpatient procedure that involves replacing the cloudy natural lens with an artificial lens through mild sedation and topical anesthetic. There are several lens replacement options, including monofocal lenses which often require glasses after surgery, and premium lenses like toric lenses to reduce astigmatism or multifocal lenses that provide distance, intermediate, and near vision with over 80% of patients needing no glasses or contacts after surgery.
A congenital opacity of the crystalline lens. Cloudiness in the lens of the eye that is present at, or develops shortly after birth. Congenital cataracts are also the most frequent cause of leukocoria (white pupil) in children.

Ortho-K or “OK Lens” is a revolutionary non-surgical process that improves your vision and
eliminates the need for glasses or daytime contact lenses. It works by gently reshaping the
front surface of the eye (cornea) by wearing a specially designed high oxygen rigid gas
permeable (RGP) lens while you sleep. You will have clear, sharp and natural vision during
waking hours.

4. FAQ
Optimal vision can be achieved within one to four weeks. However, it is very common
for some to reach excellent vision in the next day or two. Duration of the treatment
depends on the severity of the initial prescription. While the cornea is being reshaped
during the rst few days, it may be necessary for some to be tted with a temporary
soft contact until optimal treatment result is achieved.
