Dear Parents,
A very important part of the Bishop Kenny NJROTC program is the Annual Area
Manager’s Inspection. You are cordially invited to attend this year’s Pass and Review
Ceremony on Thursday, December 2, 2010; 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at the Bishop Kenny High
Football Field. Part of the inspection is a personnel inspection of all 107 of our cadets. During
our regular inspections the area our male cadets receive the most point deductions is in
grooming standards…haircuts/shaves, etc, and this area is where we really need your support.
Every NJROTC student has a Cadet Field Manual that outlines in detail the standards
for personal appearance and how to properly prepare and wear the uniform. If we are to do
well as a unit, uniforms must be cleaned and pressed, shoes need to be shined to a very high
gloss, and haircuts / shaves for our male cadets must meet Cadet Field Manual standards.
The male haircut guidelines are as follow: Neat clean, trimmed and present a well-
groomed appearance. Hair is above the ears and tapered upwards around the neck and ears
3/4 -inch and outwards not greater than 3/4 –inch. Hair must not touch the collar. Hair can be
longer than 4 inches and the bulk shall not exceed 2 inches. Hair may not show under the
front brim of any uniform cap. Sideburns neatly trimmed and shall not extend below a point
level with the middle of the ear. You may refer to the Cadet Manual pages 1-3 thru 1-4 for
questions concerning male grooming standards and/or pages 1-14 thru 1-15 for Summer Blue
uniform standards.
The female guidelines for hair are as follow: Clean, neatly shaped, and presents a well-
groomed appearance. Braids, if worn, must be neatly and inconspicuously secured at all
points to the head, and may not dangle free at any point and must not show under the front
brim of any cap.
Please understand that any cadet who shows up on inspection day (December 2,
2010) not within the grooming or uniform standards will be sent back to class with a grade of
zero for the Uniform Inspection and a zero for the Ceremonial Phase of the Inspection.
Again, we ask for your support in seeing that your son meets the grooming and uniform
standards outlined in the Cadet Field Manual. If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact us. Additionally, you are cordially invited to attend this year’s Pass and Review
Ceremony on Thursday, December 2, 2010; 10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at the Bishop Kenny High
Football Field.
