The African Mirror newspaper is launching an event called Couples Ball and Awards (COBA) to address issues affecting marriages and relationships within the African community in the US. COBA aims to create an environment for spouses and lovers to spend quality time together through wine, dining, dancing, learning and laughter. It is scheduled for October 27th, 2013 at the Hampton Conference Center. The publisher invites everyone to support COBA through sponsorship or by endorsing award categories to help strengthen family values in the community.

ago, I made a promise on
this page to use the paper
to impact positively the
African community here in
the U.S and beyond. Our
main goal from inception
has been geared towards
promoting our heritage and
v a l u e s y s t e m a s a
community. Thus, besides
being a veritable source of
i n f o r m a t i o n ,
education and
entertainment,
African Mirror
newspaper is
poised to preserve
and promote those
v a l u e s , w h i c h
distinguish us as a
people from the
rest of the world.
Since it is often
said that 'charity
begins at home', it becomes
imperative for us to start our
campaign from the home front
by embarking on programs
and projects that will help
promote the family values. It
is in view of this that we have
initiated Couples Ball and
Awards (COBA), a family
event that is specially designed
to address the issue of
marriage and relationship
within the African community
intheU.S.
We have observed with great
concern, the alarming rate of
break-ups in marriages and
relationships within our
community. Part of the reasons
attributed to this worrisome
trend is the inability ofAfrican
couples and lovers to spend
enough time together. Thus,
the ultimate goal of this event
is to create an enabling
environment in form of a
rendezvous for spouses and
lovers to wine, dine,
dance, learn, laugh,
relax and escape from
the hustles and bustles of
everyday life. We
believe the event will
help spice up marriages
and relationships among
spouses and lovers
withinourcommunity.
I am, therefore, writing
