Software Freedom Day Philippines 2016 was held on October 7, 2016 at the NCPAG Assembly Hall of the University of the Philippines - Diliman. The event promoted free and open source software, clear policies on open source, better internet access in the Philippines, freedom of information in government, data privacy, and compliance with data privacy laws. Issues discussed included the lack of internet access in many public schools, slow average broadband speeds, and the need for increased minimum speeds, removal of restrictions, and stiffer penalties for non-compliant telecommunications companies.
