Set Your Content Free: Why You Need an Open-source StrategyMatt Asay
Open source is permeating the enterprise on a massive scale, including the content-management market. Given the potential to lock one's content into a proprietary vendor/repository, CIOs should consider open standards and open source for their next ECM project.
Lessons Learned from ELN & LIMS ImplementationsMark Fortner
The process of selecting and implementing an electronic lab notebook (eLN) and laboratory information management system (LIMS) can be a challenging, time-consuming endeavor. It is an expensive decision that requires careful analysis of lab operations and processes, requirements gathering, and understanding of diverse technologies like cloud-based applications, instrument data parsing & loading, data analysis, machine learning, small-molecule and biologics registration, batch tracking, request management, and structure- and sequence-based searching just to name a few.
This white paper draws on lessons learned from multiple implementations in diverse life science labs.
Risk of Adopting Open Source ERP for Small Manufacturers: A Case StudyPlacide Poba Nzaou
Purpose - This study aims to explore the process of open source software (OSS) adoption in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and more specifically open source ERP as a “mission critical” OSS application in manufacturing. It also addresses the fundamental issue of ERP risk management that shapes this process.
Design/methodology/approach - The approach is done through an interpretive case study of a small Canadian manufacturer that has adopted an open source ERP system.
Findings - Interpreted in the light of diffusion of innovation theory and the IT risk management literature, results indicate that the small manufacturer successfully managed the adoption process in a rather intuitive manner, based on one guiding principle and nine practices.
Practical implications - This research confirms that open source is a credible alternative for SMEs that decide willingly or under external pressure to adopt an ERP system. Moreover, it suggests that a high level of formalization is not always necessary. For ERP vendors, this study shows that SMEs are more in search of flexibility in an ERP system than in the “best practices” embedded within these systems.
Originality/value - We argue that rich insights into the dynamics of the OSS-ERP adoption process can be obtained by framing this process within a risk management context.

Forrester Research recently conducted a Total Economic Impact (TEI) study, commissioned by IBM, to examine the potential return on investment (ROI) that organizations may achieve by deploying IBM Security Network Protection (XGS), a next-generation intrusion prevention system (IPS). The study determined that by implementing IBM Security Network Protection (XGS), organizations realize an increase in network performance and availability, while also enjoying reduced costs and security risks.

Detailed process documentation, complete with audit and approval trails, is required for regulatory compliance in the pharmaceutical industry and others. But how usable is that process documentation for those involved in drug development? TWi has partnered with a leading global corporation on a content strategy that presents simplified process documentation in an innovative online playbook.
In this session, you will learn:
--How to build a business case for developing content to enhance user experience, rather than focusing solely on regulatory compliance.
--How to manage a remote team on a two-year project that crosses many geographies, reporting lines, and mind sets!
--How explaining process hierarchies and making process descriptions clear, concise, consistent, and easily accessible can improve productivity, speed up training time, and reduce error rates.
--How partnering with a neutral third party can help to overcome resistance to change and office politics across different parts of your organisation.

The recent increase in utilization of complex macromolecules such as Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs) as therapeutic agents has revealed a substantial gap in the biopharmaceutical industry’s portfolio of informatics tools and methods, most of which were designed to work primarily with either small molecules or unmodified and unconjugated amino acid and nucleotide sequences. The Hierarchical Editing Language for Macromolecules (HELM), along with a software toolkit that leverages that language was developed by Pfizer researchers to address this gap (see J. Chem. Inf. Model 2012, 52, 2796-2806). HELM and related technologies such as SCSR (Self-Contained Sequence Representation, see: JChem Inf Model. 2011 51, 2186-208.), enable the representation of unnatural, conjugated or otherwise modified building blocks in biopolymers such as oligonucleotides, peptides, proteins and ADCs. HELM is being released into the Open Source and the Pistoia Alliance has initiated a project that has the goals of (1) facilitating this release, (2) adopting HELM as an industry standard for the manipulation and exchange of complex biomolecule data, and (3) setting up the organizational infrastructure to govern the future development of the standard. Given the recent FDA approval of the Antibody Drug Conjugate Kadcyla (Ado-Trastuzumab Emtansine) for Her2-Positive Metastatic Breast Cancer, one can reasonably assume that standards such as HELM and associated software tools will play an increasingly prominent role as part of the modern drug discovery informatics arsenal.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work.
