  3. 3. HISTORY • Airbus industry was formally established as a Groupment d’ Internet E’conomique (Economic interest group or GIE) on 18th December 1970 • The name ‘Airbus’ was taken from a non- proprietary to refer to a commercial aircraft of certain size and range
  4. 4. DEVELOPMENT OF AIRBUS A300 • Airbus A300 was the first aircraft to be developed and marketed by airbus • A300” label began to be applied to a proposed 320 seat, twin engine airliner. • Further flights A340,A380 was introduced with advanced technologies

Also expanding Airbus manufacturing efficiency is the company-developed transportation system for airlift of the large, pre-assembled jetliner sections from their production sites to the assembly facilities. In addition to a dedicated fleet of five A300-600ST Super Transporters – nicknamed “Beluga” – which features one of the largest cargo hold area of any civil or military aircraft in service, Airbus also uses sea/water transportation methods, including for A380 components.
