MY ESSENTIAL QUESTION How and Why is AIDS spreading
How do you get HIV and AIDS? You can get HIV by unprotected sex. You can also get it through drug needles, blood transfusion, or by getting breastfed by an infected mother. HIV is a virus that kills your body’s CD4 cells; CD4 cells help your body fight off infection and disease. AIDS is a disease you get when HIV kills your immune system; without your immune system even a simple cold could kill you. AIDS is UNCUREABLE!!!!
How is AIDS affecting Africa? Two-thirds of all people living with HIV are found in sub-Saharan Africa, although this region contains little more than 10% of the world’s population. During 2007 alone, an about 1.5 million adults and children died as a result of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. Since the beginning of the epidemic more than 15 million Africans have died from AIDS. The AIDS epidemic adds to food insecurity in many areas, as agricultural work is neglected or abandoned due to infection. It has devastating effects on countries such as Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Every 9 ½ minutes, somebody gets HIV.
What will they do to stop it. The government is giving away free condoms. The ABC approach: A bstain, B e faithful, C ondomise. Tell how to use male and female condoms.
AIDS PROVENTION Of all African countries, Uganda has won the most praise for its HIV prevention efforts; The proportion of adults living with the virus fell from around 15% in the early 1990s to about 5% in 2001. In Zimbabwe, the rate among women attending antenatal clinics fell from 32.1% in 2000 to 23.8% in 2004.
AIDS Statistics 22,000,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS. 1,500,000 people died from AIDS. 11,600,000 orphans because of AIDS.
