This document summarizes a workshop on participatory approaches in health promotion research between Örebro University researchers and representatives from Karlskoga and Degerfors municipalities. The workshop highlighted the importance of collaboration between academics, practitioners, policymakers, and community members. It also emphasized the need for critical reflection, trustful partnerships, and mixed quantitative and qualitative methods. Various studies from the Competent Families with Teenagers research program were presented, including quantitative parent surveys and qualitative interviews with teenagers and parents. The participatory approach involved stakeholders and families in the research through a steering group, working group, and dialogue forums.
