Talk Abstract: Is your usability testing always attached to a design project? And does it require a fair amount of planning, time, and resources to accomplish? Time for the designer to come up with his business questions and create a few prototypes; time for the researcher to develop an applicable discussion guide; time for the moderator to conduct the interviews, create and review the transcripts, make sense of it all, and finally come out with some solid
findings and recommendations? If so, you’re in the norm. But there’s a better way that can enable you to get more insight quicker, cheaper, and with fewer people and headaches.
This talk will describe how, with a little planning and a few innovative techniques, you can conduct regular, fast-turnaround usability interviews with
a shoestring staff and budget. You can provide timely feedback to designers, uncover surprising problems with your site, and capture rich customer quotes – and do this week after week.
By scheduling regular customer interviews regardless of the project timing, you can start to condition your designers and project managers to expect to be able to get customer input whenever they want. And exploring customers’ “native tasks” can give insights about parts of the site you and your designers would never even think to ask about. Finally, the unique debrief methodology will
greatly simplify the analysis process, enabling you to quickly produce Findings and Recommendations that will be already bought-into by the team.

This is a "Best Of" list of my (and others) failures over the years in attempting to adopt test automation. In it, you'll find 13 categories of What Not to Do. Presented at Turku Agile Day 2012 (#tad012).
Traditional approaches to quality and risk management involve quality gates, change control boards, feature freeze and code freeze milestones, and independent QA or Test groups. These approaches stabilize quality at by sacrificing agility.
Yet buggy fragile code is even more dangerous for Agile teams where so much is changing so often. Quality and risk management are critically important for agility.
This leads to the inevitable question: if the traditional approaches to quality and risk management don't work in an Agile context, what does?
Practices vary across organizations, but all successful teams emphasize the same underlying principles of fast feedback, high visibility, collaboration, and alignment. This talk examines various approaches Agile teams have taken to increase quality, mitigate risk, and ultimately ensure they are delivering the highest possible value for their stakeholders.

Meet Big Agile: Testing on Large-Scale ProjectsTechWell
Are you embarking on a large-scale, globally distributed, multi-team scrum project? Have you already identified the potential testing challenges that lie ahead? Or have you belatedly encountered them and are now working on them in real-time? Five years and more than 200 projects into its agile journey, Dell Enterprise Solutions (ESG) has empirically determined that once a project extends beyond three scrum teams, interesting testing challenges arise—inconsistent “done” criteria, integration testing underscored by epic/story interdependencies across teams, test automation inconsistency, and uncoordinated regression testing. Worse yet, the more teams involved, the less likely it is that a single scrum team has the visibility to validate the overall product from a customer usage perspective as the product evolves through sprints. This talk was given in GeoSTQB webinar on June 15, 2020. Several strengthening trends are discussed. Testing careers are evolving – there are entries into testing and out of testing. Testing is becoming a role for everyone. ISTQB, as the world’s largest testing association, provides guidance into different testing activities, supporting testing careers. Another influential aspect is the on-march of agile teams, where testing is a whole team responsibility. Then there is test automation - that is an ever-increasing domain within testing. Test automation is not taking tester jobs away, but it is transforming them, giving tools for testing. Then there is DevOps – placing testing in the middle of a largely automated delivery pipeline. There is a place for manual testing, too, but test automation has a big meaning here. Finally, Artificial Intelligence is transforming all IT task, including testing. Automation of activities can now or soon be done in a scale that wasn’t possible earlier. Do we have reason to fear for our jobs? No – AI is best placed as yet another aid for the increasing demand of good quality in software, that is more complex than ever. Soon, we couldn’t cope without AI.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
