Rhetoric/Rhetorical Analysis
The main concept that we
learned early in this class was
the rhetoric/rhetoric analysis.
Rhetoric, requires us to
answer the five W’s (who,
what, when, where, why) and
H (how). This served as the
basis of all our five units. In
every unit, we had to know
who our audience was, what
was our plan, how are we
going to execute/solve the
problems that occurred, and
etc.

Writing
I came to this class not knowing how to write a
business proposal or what a business proposal
even was. I gained experienced in this style of
writing in my technical communication class.
When writing a proposal, you had to be very
strict on formatting. Grammar had to be
perfect, that is the general rule of thumb. Your
tone had to be informative and has to catch the
reader. A proposal is your pitch to whatever
you are selling or promoting. Rhetorical
analysis has to be taken in to consideration
when writing it. Overall, as an engineer, this
was a valuable lesson for me because in the
future, I will have to write proposals for my
classes and present them.

DESIGN
Starting with the first unit, the
resume. I entered this class
not even having a resume or
knowing how to even make
one. The reason I have this
under design is because a
resume has to be a certain
design/format, you have to
have an idea on how and
where the information
belongs. Through an intensive
process of using tables in word
and the guidance of our
professor, I was able to
complete this task. Not only
that, I was able to help my
friends fix and design their
resume.
The mobile app was all about
how it was designed. The
reason for this unit was to
help and make it feasible for
people to read a car manual
app. We achieved that through
designing a prototype app
which made a car manual
accessible through our phones.
The main thought process
went into the designing stage.
Every detail had to be
considered when it was being
built. Form numbering to
bullet points, to headers, and
etc.

COLLABORATION
From unit two through unit
five, we worked as a team to
complete our tasks. We
assigned tasks based on each
team members strength. The
main challenge we faced was
how can we collaborate and
share our data outside our
classroom. Through various
online tools such as google
docs, we were able to complete
our tasks with ease.

ETHICS/CULTURE
When we started on our
mobile app, the first
question we asked was
who was our audience? In
this generation we
accessed that smart
phones are a part of our
culture, nearly everyone
had one, from a child to
the elders . This was our
audience. That is why we
built the mobile app. An
app can communicate with
everyone from different
backgrounds, to different
age groups.

When we began our usability testing
the one thing that we were strict on
was that our data and our
experiment cannot be flawed. When
we finished our usability testing we
asked our testers to complete a
survey. We could have asked them to
give us a perfect score, but we did
not. That would be unethical and does
not help us in anyway. Those same
results we used in our usability
report. Through various SR reading
we read the outcomes of companies
being unethical. Therefore, in all of
our units that required collecting
data and writing reports we
performed everything ethically and
avoided misleading data and texts.

APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
Through the use of Marvel, we were
able to create our prototype car
manual app. I had never heard of
Marvel before, it was an awesome tool
to use to build an app. At first when we
were assigned with this project we
scared because none of us knew how to
build an actual app. Through the use of
Marvel we found confidence and
actually learned how to build a
prototype app. This project provided
me with knowledge that I can later
apply in my future classes for future
engineering projects, which will make
me stand out from the others.

APPLIED TECHNOLOGY CONT
After we created our app, we
used a video presentation to
present our app via YouTube.
Technology gave us a server to
display our app to our audience.
We were able to capture a
demonstration of our app with a
camera and also provide a
script for our audience to follow.
Using different formats of
technology in this class provided
me with multiple ideas on how
can present future various
engineering projects via applied
technology rather than just a
simple powerpoint.

CONCLUSION
When I stepped in to this class I was
expecting writing from day one till the
semester ended, and as an engineer
there nothing worse than writing. The
outcome was completely different. From
unit one through unit 5 this class
provided me with various life skills. I
learned and built an outstanding
resume, learned and built a visual
resume, which I had never even heard
of, collaborated with my team and
wrote a business proposal, and built an
app. The tools and knowledge I received
from this class will help me stand out
above the others in my field of
engineering.
