INTRODUCTION
Technical writing and communication is
not something I’ve ever thought about.
Understanding the importance of how
the design of writing is an important
quality that can make or break a
process.
Today, I now pay attention more than
ever on how I write not just with my
classes but even with social networks
as well as emails I even send out.
Professor, you have really given me
incredible tools and techniques to
succeed as a student and in my future
career.

RHETORIC
Understanding rhetorical situations was
something I’ve always had difficulty with.
In the first lecture we discussed how to
identify a situation and then conduct an
analysis.
This analysis consisted of the “5 W and
H” questions which the readings
explained about looking for specific
things:
The audience
Purpose
Context
Author
Genre
Being able to identify each of these
allows me to target whatever objective it
is for example preparing my resume for a
company. I had to ask these questions
and prepare my document to meet the
expectations of that company.

WRITING AND EDITING
Writing and editing was definitely a key point in this course and very vital when using technical
communication. Many of the lectures we had explained how to display your text when writing
whether it be a proposal for a project or a slidedoc you are creating for an assignment.
One of the biggest assignments I that helped develop those writing and editing skills was the
proposal we created for our group projects. Having the right information spelled correctly and
formatted to the professors specifications really showed the importance of this subject.

DESIGN
Designing rhetorically to create your
own identity and your own voice so
that you can develop a multimodal
project that addresses all the
modes of communication that
targets your audience.
All of the assignments we
completed required design choices
which followed a concept. This
concept had 5 areas:
Emphasis
Contrast
Organization
Alignment
Proximity
Following these 5 areas became
very key when designing our group
project with Storymap. The
organization and alignment was
some what of a challenge out of
these 5 areas. But overall it was
definitely a great accomplishment.

ETHICS / CULTURE
Technical communication plays a big role in ethics and culture as this even
played a role in our class. Culture is in everything we read judging values or
posing opinions whether it be positive or negative. The ethical part is how you
address it without offending the author or the rest of the audience.
This definitely became important when the class had to give peer reviews for
each of the projects. Giving feedback that was positive and helpful so that we
could make the changes needed to improve the project. This helped me to
understand why it is important to be aware of ethical and cultural

Working with a group having to
compete deadlines was definitely
easy this semester. With the
work divided among us 3 made it
very simple to complete all of the
assignments due. I played a role
in each of the assignments from
the proposal to the designing of
our Storymap. I completed ever
task that was delegated and
ensured my team approved of it
through email or class time.

APPLIED TECHNOLOGY
I was introduced to a few technologies
that I have never worked with.
ArcGIS was something new for me
especially when we established what
kind of platform my group wanted to
use. It was definitely a challenge
having to create our project with this
kind of format. I’m glad we did
because it came out amazing.
Twitter also new to me was something
I was not familiar with whatsoever.
Having to use this application for this
course opened my eyes to how
people use this platform to spread
certain topics.
Slideshare also another technology I
was not familiar with. This platform
really made things simple when using
it to present or establish the visual
presentation.

CONCLUSION
In closing, I learned so much from this course from
the rhetorical situations, the applied technologies, and
most of all the design techniques to succeed with
technical writing.
