Conclusion
Introduction
 Mathematics is defined as the science which deals with logic of shape , quantity and arrangement.
 It is the only branch of learning in which theories of 2000 years old and are still valid.
 Mathematics express itself every where in almost every facet of life in nature all around us, and in
the technologies in our hands.
 The world of today which leans more and more heavily on science and technology, demands more
and more on mathematical knowledge on the part of more and more people.
VALUES OF LEARNING MATHEMATICS
 Value is the importance , worth or usefulness of something.
 Values of learning are outcomes or results achieved after learning according to certain aims.
 There are 6 main values we get by learning mathematics they are:
 Practical / Utilitarian values.
 Disciplinary values.
 Cultural values
 Aesthetic values
 Social value
 Moral value
PRACTICAL OR UTILITARIAN VALUES
 In our day to day life we can find various practical applications of
mathematics.
Knowledge of mathematics is needed at every stage of life.
Use of mathematics in daily life
 Cooking : Practical knowledge of ratio and proportion.
 Gardening : Practical knowledge of mensuration.
 Domestic budget : Practical knowledge of income, expenditure.
 Laborers : Practical knowledge of savings and earnings.
 Shopping : Practical knowledge of profit and loss.
Shopping laborers (Income) Savings
Cooking Gardening Domestic budget
 Uses of Mathematics in other fields
 Sports : Practical knowledge of Probability, Mensuration and Statistics.
 Navigation : Practical knowledge of Coordinate geometry.
 Banking : Practical knowledge of Percentage and Interest.
 Architecture: Practical knowledge of Mensuration, Geometry and Symmetry.
 Industries : Practical knowledge of mathematics is required for handling finance ,
insurance, investment , trade and transportation.
 Weather : Numerical weather prediction (NWP) uses mathematical models of the
atmosphere and oceans to predict weather based on current weather
conditions.
Tossing (probability) Success rate (Statistics) Court(mensuration) Navigation ( Geometry)
Bank Symmetry (Architecture) Mensuration (Architecture) Geometry (Architecture)
Industry Fore casting Weather (NWP) Industry
 Natural Disaster : Mathematicians have developed a computer application that estimates the
magnitude of natural disasters and it helps NGOs in decision making.
 Budget : Knowledge of estimation of income and its expenses over a specified
future period of time. Example: Research and Development , Capital Expenditure Budget.
 Finding distance and length : Practical knowledge of Trignometry.
 Land Survey: Practical knowledge of coordinate geometry.
 Growth rate and Decay rate: Mathematical formulas with basic arithmetic operations are used along
with graphical representation.
 Thus in all sections of society in various occupations such as scientists, engineers, managers,
cartographers, meteorologists, geologists, business man, crafts men, technicians, carpenters, masons
make use of mathematics.
 The service function of mathematics to other curriculum areas such as chemistry, physics, geography,
economics etc are also unavoidable.

 Mathematics is ingrained in nature, at least in nature as seen and interpreted by human mind.
 Knowledge in mathematics helped in weighing and measuring substances.
 A close study revealed that ancient civilizations are very much related to the development of
mathematics.
 Our modern civilization has been built by the use of calculus and higher mathematics.
 The use of calculus helped in construction of skyscrapers, bridges, subways, railway lines,
telephones etc.
 Mathematical modeling of the spread of the corona virus disease (COVID 19)
 Working with microbiologists many mathematicians are contributing to understand Covid 19 pandemic
on mathematical models.
 SIR model was developed in1920s then by 2016 SIER model came.
 As the spread become more severe a new model called θ-SEIHRD mathematical model of Covid 19
is developed.
 θ is the ratio of detected case over real total infected cases.
DISCIPLINARY VALUES
 The disciplinary value will refer to a mathematical way of thinking – problem solving, reasoning, logic and
proof - with ‘ discipline’ meaning ‘ field of study’ along with some behavioral changes.
 These skills are taught in mathematics but can be useful in many other subjects.
 Mathematical knowledge is exact, logical , real and to that point and that is why it creates discipline in
human mind.
 A mentally disciplined person will get disciplined in all spheres of life.
 It enables the students to avoid biases and prejudices in thinking.
 If the subject is taught and learnt with value in mind no person will take decisions not by the spur of
emotions ; she is sure to apply logic and scientific thinking.
 A student of mathematics will be able to argue on the correctness or incorrectness of a statement.
 Certain modes of thoughts like ability to grasp a situation, to analyze the situation and to perceive
correctly the state of affairs.
 The habit of carefully analyzing the situation before decision making could be very helpful in complex
life situations where decision making becomes difficult.
 It trains children not to take things for granted , or rely on tradition or authority , but rely on reasoning.
 It is believed that accuracy and reasoning are specific traits that could be developed easily by learning
mathematics.
 There are some important characteristics of mathematical mode of thought punctuality, neatness, cleanliness,
habit of paying attention, regular study habits through home works and drill are developed in students via
mathematics.
 Develop habits such as regularity, practice, patience, self-reliance and hard work.
 Mathematical concepts and facts are learnt through two important modes of thinking namely inductive
reasoning and deductive reasoning.
• Inductive reasoning: The process of using examples and observations to reach a conclusion.
• Deductive reasoning: the process of using general principles or experience to reach a conclusion
 The study of mathematics helps to imbibe values like honesty, truthfulness, open mindedness, objectivity ,
self confidence, self reliance ,patience, will power along with orderly habits.
CONCLUSION
 Knowledge is power only when it is applied.
 Mathematics in the school curriculum thus provide as many opportunities for students to exercise their mental
faculties.
 According to Locke ‘ Mathematics is a way to settle in mind the habit of reasoning’.
 No other subject in the curriculum provide as many opportunities for students to exercise their mental faculties
as mathematics.
 Beside all these value the fact is , in this present world it is impossible to live without having atleast a basic
knowledge of mathematics.

  • 13. DISCIPLINARY VALUES  The disciplinary value will refer to a mathematical way of thinking – problem solving, reasoning, logic and proof - with ‘ discipline’ meaning ‘ field of study’ along with some behavioral changes.  These skills are taught in mathematics but can be useful in many other subjects.  Mathematical knowledge is exact, logical , real and to that point and that is why it creates discipline in human mind.  A mentally disciplined person will get disciplined in all spheres of life.  It enables the students to avoid biases and prejudices in thinking.
  • 14.  If the subject is taught and learnt with value in mind no person will take decisions not by the spur of emotions ; she is sure to apply logic and scientific thinking.  A student of mathematics will be able to argue on the correctness or incorrectness of a statement.  Certain modes of thoughts like ability to grasp a situation, to analyze the situation and to perceive correctly the state of affairs.  The habit of carefully analyzing the situation before decision making could be very helpful in complex life situations where decision making becomes difficult.  It trains children not to take things for granted , or rely on tradition or authority , but rely on reasoning.  It is believed that accuracy and reasoning are specific traits that could be developed easily by learning mathematics.
  • 15.  There are some important characteristics of mathematical mode of thought punctuality, neatness, cleanliness, habit of paying attention, regular study habits through home works and drill are developed in students via mathematics.  Develop habits such as regularity, practice, patience, self-reliance and hard work.  Mathematical concepts and facts are learnt through two important modes of thinking namely inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning. • Inductive reasoning: The process of using examples and observations to reach a conclusion. • Deductive reasoning: the process of using general principles or experience to reach a conclusion
  • 16.  The study of mathematics helps to imbibe values like honesty, truthfulness, open mindedness, objectivity , self confidence, self reliance ,patience, will power along with orderly habits.
  • 17. CONCLUSION  Knowledge is power only when it is applied.  Mathematics in the school curriculum thus provide as many opportunities for students to exercise their mental faculties.  According to Locke ‘ Mathematics is a way to settle in mind the habit of reasoning’.  No other subject in the curriculum provide as many opportunities for students to exercise their mental faculties as mathematics.  Beside all these value the fact is , in this present world it is impossible to live without having atleast a basic knowledge of mathematics.
