What is a modal verbs?
Modal verbs are used to express
ability, obligation, possibility, offer,
request, advice and so on.
Descriptive words are also
called word modifiers. They
give a more specific meaning
to the word they modify
there are two kinds of
descriptive words: an adjective
and an adverb
An adjective is a word that
describes a noun or noun
phrase.
An adjective is a word that
describes the traits, qualities,
or number of a noun.
Example:
clean, happy, sad, cold, tall,
short, active, sad, lonely
Margot wore a beautiful
hat to the pie-eating
contest.
Furry dogs may overheat in
the summertime.
My cake should have
sixteen candles.
The scariest villain of all
time is Darth Vader.
That cow sure is happy.
It smells gross in the locker
room.
Driving is faster than
walking.
Underline the adjectives in

An adverb is a word that can
modify or describe a verb,
adjective, another adverb, or
entire sentence.
Adverbs can be used to show
manner (how something
happens), degree (to what extent),
place (where), and time (when).
The ideas of the paragraph below
are taken from a review of the
play Romeo and Juliet. Study the
reviewer’s evaluation or judgment.
Then, find all the modifiers
(adjectives or adverbs) used and
write them under the correct
headings in the graphic organizer
below.
