Thomas Horace Rogers School is among the top-rated schools in America, and it is both a primary and secondary public school their main color is white and orange. The school is located on 5840 San Felipe Dr in Houston, Texas. The schools perform better in terms of their grades, and that is evident since it is among the well-recognized school in the United States. The school is categorized as a public high school, and according to journals and magazines, it is ranked among the top 25 best performing public schools in the Houston area. The number of students in T.H Rogers School ranges from 929-950 according to 2016 statistics. From the school management perception, they love parents or even guardians always getting involved in their children’s academic teachings.
T.H Rogers School has two counselors for both middle school and elementary school DR. La Dora Matthews is in charge of the counseling department in the middle school while DR. Karen Martinez is in charge of the elementary school counseling department. Both the two counselors in T.H Rogers School work towards offering the students psychological care that will boost them in terms of their academic levels. The counselors also teach students that equality is important which has played a significant part in promoting equality in the school regardless of race, gender or social status.

Learning Partnerships
Mentoring for professional development goes beyond just building respectful and
trustworthy relationships with adults. It is assumed that once a relationship has been built,
early childhood teachers are left to handle the dilemma of putting their effort into practice
(Stormshark et al. 2016). This may not be true since such partnerships not only help to
enhance professional development but also establish professional boundaries basing on
culture among many other factors. One reason for this partnership is the fact that however,
many teachers may be experienced, they need support to help them effectively take up the
roles they have been assigned to do. Adults are better placed to provide this support,
showcasing their special abilities, personal as well as professional guidance for the teachers.
Through established relationships, mentors can offer the support that these teachers need.
Partnerships become more comfortable with teachers and vice versa, making children
appreciate the fact that important people in their life are working together. This enhances
children’s learning due to a perfect environment characterized by a healthy teacher-parent
relationship. This partnership also helps teachers and mentors to establish expectations and
formulate strategies that can help them achieve the set objectives and expectations. Mentors
may not have trained as teachers but are in a better position in society to understand the
societal expectations of their children in academic and other facets of life. Through
partnerships, mentors and teachers brainstorm together, do consultations and come up with
effective strategies that enhance professional development.
Lastly, partnering with adults helps to achieve learner’s needs more effectively.
Mentors act as watchdogs who review the learning process and can help comb out. In case of

To achieve maximum program effectiveness, the American School Counselor Association recommends a counselor-to-student ratio of 1:250. This comprehensive school counseling program long range plan is devised to incorporate a long-term counseling plan at Wilson High School.
Description of the School
Wilson High School is located in the north section of Florence, South Carolina and serves students 9th thru 12th grade. There are 1174 students attending Wilson High School. Of this total, there are 614 males and 583 females.
Wilson High School was founded in 1866 as a Freedom’s Bureau School following the American Civil War. Our school’s mission from the beginning has been to develop in all students the knowledge, skills and character to achieve personal success. At Wilson High School, we provide a wide variety of academic opportunities including a Middle Years Program, a Diploma Program as part of our International Baccalaureate World School, Advanced Placement courses and Dual Credit Classes. In 2016, Wilson High School instituted an Early College Program, where students will graduate high school with an Associate Degree from Florence-Darlington Technical College. This will better prepare our students for the workforce or post-secondary education.

A- Classroom Demographics
lowa the King Catholic School consists of approximately 240 students from pre-k to 8th grade. The kindergarten class, the classroom in which I observed, consists of 21 students. Students’ demographics are 15 white students, three African American students, one Asian student, and one Hispanic student. The classroom is managed by two teachers who are trained to deal with different ethnic groups. Because the school is a private school, most of the students represent middle to high levels of socioeconomic status.
The students’ behaviors in the kindergarten class are diverse. As students in the kindergarten class are a younger age, they normally are very active and teachers were very professional in dealing with them. The teachers always reminded the children of the rules of the class such as, “Don’t speak when the teacher is talking. Don’t answer questions until the teacher asks you to answer”. In addition, in the class, there is a leadership board and every day the teachers put one of the student’s name on the board to be the leader of the day. The leader’s job is to do the morning work such as set the date of the day, weather, and season on the smart board by getting help from the teachers and students. Also, some of the leader’s job is to organize the students’ line when they go to the restroom in the restroom times and when they go to the play area.
The teachers plan the lesson carefully to meet all students’ needs. They develop the curriculum to align with all students’ cultures and backgrounds. They print all of the vocabulary they teach students on cards and put them on the board. In addition, they put different books that are related to different cultures in the class library for students to read in the reading time.
B- Philosophy
From my point of view, most of the students’ problems and misbehaviors happen for a reason. Therefore, it is the teacher’s job to find out the reasons for the misbehaviors and teach the students the appropriate behaviors. The most effective way to prevent the misbehavior is to focus on replacing and teaching the positive behavior instead of eliminating it. the theory of Ibrahim Maslow supports this idea and shows that undesired behavior happens not because of a bad child, but because of the child is reaction when one or more of his/her basic needs are not being met. These needs include Knowledge and understanding, self-actualization, self-respect, belongingness and affection, safety and security, physiological needs. He suggests that to reduce child negative behavior, parents and teachers should work to meet the child’ needs.
Furthermore, I believe that teachers can create a productive and positive classroom atmosphere by conducting group activities to help students form good relationships with classmates and became familiar with other cultures and ethnicities. Introduction
In recent years, school violence has been on the rise in schools. Violence cases range from simple to sophisticated ones. Simple ones can be in the form of school bullying while complicated ones include students attacking others by deadly weapons (Blosnich & Bossarte, 2011). A good number of students face violence at school and the vice is on the increase. Some of the consequences of such cases have been severe harms and even death. There is a need to address such vices in schools and eliminate them completely. That will help to level the learning environment so that all students will have an equal opportunity to succeed.
In service learning, students are given a chance to practice what they learned in class in a real-world environment. Students from XYZ University can use this opportunity to help the organization to solve cases of violence at schools and volunteer as data collectors so as to enhance and develop research that shall offer solutions to the menace of school violence. Service learning can also be utilized by students in the classroom through the analysis of various community problems and the possible solutions. Therefore, the availability of service learning and the efforts of The Education Trust Organization can help to reduce cases of school violence and support students from poor backgrounds.
Community Organization
The community organization that I chose is The Education Trust Organization. This organization was established in the year 1980 with a duty to promote the education standards for all students' right from the kindergarten level to colleges and universities. The organization's foremost goal is to seal the gaps in educational accomplishments and more specifically, the young people. The organization is mandated to make policies and advocate for better learning standards. They mostly focus on learners from poor or low income and marginalized groups. They focus on such students because they have a high likelihood of experiencing challenges during their learning time. The organization advances proposals after carrying out thorough research o establish the major challenges facing the students. They then come up with policies that can help to improve the education standards of students and then create public awareness so as to get the support of the government. According to the organization's research, school violence is a vice that is caused by a myriad of issues including, personality problems, drug abuse, violence as portrayed in the media and challenging upbringing (The Education Trust, 2013). Making of new policies is also an effective way of reducing cases of school violence (Shaughnessy, 2017).

ABSTRACT
Scholars sometimes stress that it is important to know the individual meaning
of suicide and the cultural meaning of suicide, but the meaning of these terms
remains unclear. The present article discusses this problem and suggests that
the individual meaning of suicide is best based on the motives for suicide,
while the cultural meaning of suicide is best rooted in the lay theories of
suicide in which the members of cultures and subcultures believe.
Colucci (2006) drew attention to the fact that theory and research into suicidal
behavior has neglected the role of culture. Suicide is typically considered to be the
same phenomenon throughout the world, and theories proposed in one region
(such as the West) are assumed to apply to other regions. In addition, Colucci
pointed out that the cultural meaning of suicide has been neglected except for
rare scholars who draw attention to this issue, such as Douglas (1967) and Boldt
(1988). However, there appears to be a great deal of confusion over what exactly
the “meaning” of suicide refers to and, more especially, the “cultural meaning” of
suicide. The purpose of the present article is to examine what these terms mean.
Colucci cited the work of Good and Good (1982) who suggested that the
meaning of an illness involves “the metaphors associated with a disease, the
ethnomedical theories, the basic values and conceptual forms, and the care
patterns that shape the experience of the illness and the social reactions to the
sufferer” (p. 148). This encompasses many separate concepts.

People use the term “modern” in a variety of ways, often very loosely, with a lot of implied associations of new, contemporary, up-to-date, and technological. We know the difference between a modern society and one that remains tied to the past and it usually has less to do with art and more to do with technology and industrial progress, things like indoor plumbing, easy access to consumer goods, freedom of expression, and voting rights. In the 19th century, however, modernity and its connection with art had certain specific associations that people began recognizing and using as barometers to distinguish themselves and their culture from earlier nineteenth century ways and attitudes.
Chronologically, Modernism refers to the period from 1850 to 1960. It begins with the Realist movement and ends with Abstract Expressionism. That’s just a little over one hundred years. During that period the western world experienced some significant changes that transformed Europe and the United States from traditional societies that were agriculturally based into modern ones with cities and factories and mass transportation.
Here are some important features that all modern societies share.
Capitalism
Capitalism replaced landed fortunes and became the economic system of modernity in which people exchanged labor for a fixed wage and used their wages to buy ever more consumer items rather than produce such items themselves. This economic change dramatically affected class relations because it offered opportunities for great wealth through individual initiative, industrialization and technology—somewhat like the technological and dot.com explosion of the late 20th and early 21st century. The industrial revolution which began in England in the late 18th century and rapidly swept across Europe (hit the U.S. immediately following the Civil War) transformed economic and social relationships, offered an ever increasing number of cheaper consumer goods, and changed notions of education. Who needed the classics when a commercial/technically oriented education was the key to financial success? The industrial revolution also fostered a sense of competition and progress that continues to influence us today.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

America, and it is both a primary and secondary public school

5840 San Felipe Dr in Houston, Texas. The schools perform
better in terms of their grades, and that is evident since it is
among the well-recognized school in the United States. The
school is categorized as a public high school, and according to
journals and magazines, it is ranked among the top 25 best
performing public schools in the Houston area. The number of
students in T.H Rogers School ranges from 929-950 according
to 2016 statistics. From the school management perception, they
love parents or even guardians always getting involved in their
children’s academic teachings.
T.H Rogers School has two counselors for both middle school
and elementary school DR. La Dora Matthews is in charge of
the counseling department in the middle school while DR.
Karen Martinez is in charge of the elementary school counseling
department. Both the two counselors in T.H Rogers School work
towards offering the students psychological care that will boost
them in terms of their academic levels. The counselors also
teach students that equality is important which has played a
significant part in promoting equality in the school regardless
of race, gender or social status.
Alignment with ASCA
Generally, school counselors can be defined as certified
4. educators in school counseling. Their roles are specifically to
educate students concerning their academic careers, their
emotional and social lives to improve their academic success.
School counselors can be found in all levels of schools
including elementary school, high schools as well as middle or
junior schools (Kourkoutas & Giovazolias, 2015). According to
research school counselors play a vital role in schools in terms
of maximizing student's success. They work with students to
help them overcome the troubles they are undergoing through
that hinder their success academically.
American School Counsellor Association developed the school
counseling program to help students, administrators, parents as
well as teachers and the community in general. According to
ASCA policies, counseling programs should be applied in a
student educational program, school counselors, on the other
hand, should collaborate to help the student perform better
academically or socially. T.H Rogers School has proved to
apply for the ASCA counseling program in their school
effectively (Carey & Martin, 2017). Their counseling program
involves peer meditation counseling, guidance lessons,
individual counseling, small groups counseling, referrals, and
consultation, IAT as well as parent events.
During peer meditation, counselors train students on how to
handle conflicts between themselves positively and peacefully.
During guidance lessons, the T.H Rogers school counselors give
students guidance lessons addressing their emotional and social
needs for them to develop academic success and be ready for
further education success as well. Today’s school counsellors
are different compared to the past where they would sit around
in office chairs handling or rather making programmes for
students who wanted to drop out in schools or handling school
applications (Tiffany Chenier 2019). In the contemporary world
school counselors play a different role including the fact that
they are involved in education systems. T.H Rogers School
counselors are beneficial to students since they help them make
decisions academically; they help students emotionally as well
5. as socially. Besides, school counselors also help students
become more productive in preparing them for tomorrow’s
future.
During individual counseling in T.H Rogers School the
counselor's counsel students especially those that are
undergoing difficulties that are impacting them negatively
academically. Generally, in schools’ students face a lot of
problems some problems are even dragged along from their
respective homes. The challenges can affect a student's
emotionally and socially which can be reflected from their
academic performances in schools. Among the common
problems resolved by school, counselors include a student
having low learning capabilities, a student from low-income
family may also have a problem socially comparing her life with
other students. Also, a student may have experienced abuse
either emotionally or even sexually and finally when a student
has a specific addiction he or she is trying to overcome. In
those cases, a school counselor will effectively collaborate with
the student, parents, the concerned teachers, medical
professionals as well as the school leaders to help the student
by identifying and addressing the problem.
In small groups, T.H Rogers counselors typically try and
respond to students concerns. The concerns may be related to
their studying skills, their connections with friends as well as
changes and many more. Currently, the school has introduced a
new program whereby the 5th-grade executive group has to meet
at least once in a week planning on how they should rehearse
time and organization managing skills. Counselors have in plan
for upper elementary students to get involved in conversation
café which is a small group that is meant to encourage them and
improve their self-esteem, their critical thinking as well as
support them to practice positive communication. During
referrals, counselors give community agencies referrals
especially for those families that are dealing with chaos,
violence as well as chronic illnesses. In consultation, the
counselors meet up with parents intending to discuss their
6. academic performances. The counselor generally acts as a
student advocate. During IAT the counselors create teams which
support administrators, parents students made up of teachers as
well as other school stakeholders. In parent events, this is when
the counselor's department hold informational sessions and
parent workshops countering to various needs of the school
community (Castro et al. 2015).
The whole program of ASCA aligns with T.H Rogers School
counseling program since they aim to improve student’s success
in all angels. The counselors equally believe in all students’
potential to be successful. Also, the counselors align with the
policy which mentions that privacy should be honored by
adhering to the ethical standards since they have individual
counseling. Also, in T.H Rogers counseling programme, the
counselors provide counseling to students who need long term
counseling sessions. Also, another way the school counseling
department aligns with ASCA is by offering IAT counseling
services whereby the counselors have chosen to offer support to
administrators’ students and even any involved stakeholder of
the school generally, T.H Rogers School most programmes align
with the ASCA policies.
Recommendations for Improvements
Assessing T.H Rogers School counseling programs, there are
basic areas which from a personal perspective need
improvement to make sure that the schools counseling and
guidance programmes effectively give students the counsel they
need to imply a positive impact in their academic and social
lives. The problems or rather challenges were identified during
an interview with DR. Karen who is the head department in
counseling of the elementary school. One of the challenges is
gender issues, most of the students especially male students
prefer opening up to a counselor who is of the same gender as
the students and considering that both elementary and middle-
class counselor are both females then it becomes a challenge.
There DR. Karen mentions in the interview that it is only fair of
the administration of T.H Rogers School looked for a solution
7. which would be involving male counselors in the counseling
department for both elementary and middle-class students.
The second challenges DR. Karen mentioned during the
interview are suicide. Students who undergo emotional abuse or
physical abuse end up opting for suicide to end the pain which
has happened not only once in T.H Rogers Schools says, Dr.
Karen. Bullying or any abuse should be discouraged at all
angels and the best thing a counselor is to notice any unusual
behavior from a student and communicate to the students of the
concern. In this case best to connect the student with his or her
parents as well as the community resources that will encourage
the student to get rid of the self-harm thoughts, ideas as well as
feelings.
Conclusion
T.H Rogers School is among the few schools that offer to
counsel to their students often which is a good thing since
students no longer have to make decisions on their own since
there are counselors to help them in that. Even though there are
a few areas they need to improve on the counseling has brought
great change for the students in T.H Rogers. Other schools
should embrace such a culture since the whole community at
large also benefits from the counsel including teachers, parents
and the administration at large.
