Using OSHA to Prevent Workplace Injury, Illness and
Death
Adesewa Adewusi
Magdalena Frangos & Helen Perez
• To prevent workplace casualties by
analyzing data collected through OSHA
& developing educational interventions
to prevent recurrence.
• 23,000 workplace injuries occur each
day.
• Massive dollar amounts go towards
workers compensation and medical bills.
• $49.97 Billion went to the top 10 leading
causes of workplace injuries alone in
2012
Data Collection
•Each moth every workplace
casualty that occurs in
Woodbridge Township is
entered into OSHA.
•Information such as time &
nature of incident, and
objects/equipment involved
with incident are included.
Analyze Data
•The data is analyzed by
department heads who
complete a Supervisor Injury
Form for every reported case.
• The data is also reviewed at
quarterly Safety Committee
meetings.
Intervention & Policy
Enforcement
•Based on the analyzed data,
educational interventions and
policy enforcements are
enacted to prevent
recurrence.
• OSHA has been successful in
accomplishing its mission thus far.
• Since 1970 casualties have decreased by
66.5%.
• In 2015 a total of 84 workplace casualties
were reported by Woodbridge
Township.
• The total for 2016 is still in progress.
• At the end of the year, the total amount
of workplace injuries reported by
Woodbridge Township in 2016 will be
compared with the total from 2015;
using posts and pre tests.
• This will allow us to determine how
successful Woodbridge Township was in
analyzing the data and developing
interventions accordingly.
TOP 10 CAUSES AND DIRECT COSTS OF
WORKPLACE INJURIES IN 2012 (IN

• Special thanks to Magdalena Frangos &
Helen Perez for all of their help, as well
Ann Marie Hill, for her tremendous
support and valuable skills which helped
make this possible.
