ACTIVITY
• INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY
I will introduce myself in the same way which I will ask teachers.
Procedure:
• Distribute sticky notes among all
• Ask teachers to write the initial letter or first alphabet on the given
paper in bold
• Ask them to write an adjective which represents their personality or
aspect of their nature with the same alphabet
• E.g. s
agacious
ajida
• After that I will ask them as you guided me
• Standup those whose birthday is in January after standing I will ask
them introduce yourself (as I demonstrate) they will say adjective first and
then their name one by one. Activity or introduction will carry all 12
months.
Activity Based
Learning
What is Activity
Based Learning?
Meaning of Activity
• The state of being active.
• Any specific behaviour or action of a particular kind.
• A thing that a person or group is doing or has done.
• An educational task that involves direct experience and participation of
students.
• A specific pursuit or deed in which a person participates.
Examples: Acting, performing, demonstration, playing a game, thinking,
writing, reading, reasoning, questioning, answering, operating something
etc.
Introduction
• Learning by doing
• more the senses are stimulated, more a person learns and longer
he/she retains
• technique adopted by teachers to emphasize teaching method
• child-centered approach
• students participate rigorously and bring about efficient learning
experiences
• actively involved in participating mentally and physically
Why do we need activity based learning?
• literacy teaching and learning needs to change because the world is changing
• It enhances creativity
• It gives reality for learning
• Provides different experiences to the students to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, experience,
skills and principles.
• Builds the student’s self-confidence and develops understanding through work in group.
• Gets experiences, develop interest, enriches vocabulary
• Develops happy relationship between students and students, teachers and students
• An activity is said to be the language of the child. A child who lacks in verbal expression can make up
through use of ideas in the activity.
• Subjects of all kinds can be taught through activity.
• Social relation provides opportunity to mix with others.
ABL Covers All Types of Learners
ACTIVITY (Creative Writing)
Chain Story
• Arrange the teachers in a circle or u-shape
• Give a piece of paper
• I will Initiate the story like (once upon a time a poor boy lived in a
village with….)
• Teachers will add one line each to complete the story. At the end one
will read it loud .
Role of a Teacher in an Activity Based Method
• A planner, an organizer and evaluator
• Facilitator
• Decision maker
• Knowledge imparter
• Disciplinarian
purpose/role/Function of Activities
• Exploratory - gathering knowledge, concept and skill
• Constructive - getting experience through creative works
• Expressional - presentations
ACTIVITY
Paper Plane Activity
• Distribute papers among all participants
• Show them vocabulary words on the screen
• Ask them to read and memorise all words/meanings
• Ask them write two most difficult words on the paper
• Make a paper plane
• Fly it
• Pick any paper plane except your own
• Open it
• Write down your name (optional for you but in class students must write their names) and meaning of the words written on the
paper
• Fly the paper plane again pick random
• Check the work and give marks
Activity Based Learning
It involves / it can be
• Group discussions: Discussing in smaller groups(four to five students)
• Project Making: for science subjects it is best approach to understand
• Dramatization: Conversion into a dramatic form or reconstruction of
an event, novel, story etc. in a suitable dramatic presentation.
• Quizzes: an activity in which participants should give the answers to
the questions
• Role play: Enacting some situations or playing the role of things,
persons, characters etc.
• Debates: Arguments (discussion involving Arguments) between two
groups in which one group argues to defend the controversial issue or
theme and other group puts up the arguments against the theme.
• Field work: Going to the real life situations for observing the
phenomenon, collect relevant data, process and analyze the data and
arrive at conclusions.
• Concept Mapping or Mind Mapping: It is a process of representing
the concepts or different things in hierarchical fashion with most
inclusive, general concepts at the top and less general concepts at the
bottom in a pictorial form.
Activity
Prepare Your Own Scale
• Give them a piece of chart
• Ask them to cut a stripe (as I will show them)
• Ask them to mark lines as you observe on the scale
• This activity helps them in the use of scale and clears the concept of
inches by drawing lines and reading scale
Activity Based Learning Example
• Use Real Objects. ...
• Don't Underestimate the Power of Projects. ...
• Use Additional Information. ..( handouts , picture cards etc. )
• Use Videos. ...
• Try Teaching Via Skit ( pair share activity, drama )
Types of Activities
• Indoor Activities
Indoor activities are held inside of a building or classroom.
Example: Board Games
• Outdoor Activities
Outdoor activities are held outdoors in the open air.
Example: Trips or Visits
Activity
Vocabulary Bank
• Divide all participants in groups of 5
• One will be writer and others will be facilitators
• Give each group a piece of paper with a word on it
• This will be their vocabulary bank and they can use the given alphabets only to make new
words ,
• The group with maximum words will be announced as winner.
Parts of speech (creative writing)
What is in your room , describe your fellow or person next to you by using your five/any two or
three senses.
Activities
• Parts of speech
• Use of Five Senses
• Describe your fruit
• Over, under, around and through
• Make a Story
• Bullet Fire ( name / place / thing)
• Paper plane Activity
• Freeze Dominant Hand
Activity
Freeze Dominant Hand
• To know about the mental level of students
• To improve the efficiency and creativity of brain
• To strengthen neural connections in your brain
• The human brain is an organ that improves through mental stimulation. The brain continuously adapts, grows and
rewires itself through the growth of new neurons. When people age, it’s common that they experience memory loss
and sometimes their fine motor skills – but unless the mental decline is caused by disease, most age-related memory,
and motor skill ability loss is from lack of brain exercise. If you don’t use your brain, it loses its knowledge.
• This is Your Brain Left Handed
• Using your opposite hand will strengthen neural connections in your brain, and even grow new ones. It’s similar to how
physical exercise improves your body’s functioning and grows muscles.
• Try using your non-dominant hand to write. Use it to control the computer mouse or television remote. Brush your
teeth with your other hand. You’ll probably notice it’s much harder to be precise with your movements. When I first
started to brush my teeth with my left hand, it was hard to actually move my hand instead of my head.
