Active Rectifier Regulator for
Permanent Magnet Alternators
Active Rectifier Regulator
Conventional alternators have a field winding which can be used to regulate the
alternator output. PM Alternators use permanent magnets instead of a field winding and
operate at higher power-size ratios, compared to conventional designs. However, as
they lack a field winding, they cannot be regulated to provide a constant output for
electrical load and speed variations.
MEGAMIC’s Active Rectifier Regulator converts the unregulated AC output of the PM
Alternator to provide a constant DC output, irrespective of variations in the speed of the
alternator or the loading conditions.
The Regulator consists of two modules
 Single-board Active Rectifier Controller
 Active Rectifier Power Stack, customized for the Power rating of the
Alternator

 Controls the Power Stack to provide Regulated DC Output for wide range of
PM Alternator speed and Load conditions
 Universal – PM Alternators over wide VA Ratings can be Regulated
 Output Voltage Adjustable over +/- 10% range using Potentiometer
 Load Current and Battery Current Sensing with Independent Programmable

during High Temperature condition)
