4. The first digital electronic computer, invented by Claude Shannon in 1940, was a turning point for the programmable devices that are common today. In 1947, Konrad Zuse created the the world's first operational computer, the Z3.The personal computer entered the commercial market in 1977. 5. On April 3, 1973, mobile pioneer Dr Martin Cooper called his rival, Dr Joel S. Engel, the head of research at AT&T's Bell Labs, as he walked down a New York City street, talking on the first Motorola DynaTAC prototype in front of reporters. 9. The first working laser -Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation was demonstrated on May 16, 1960, by Theodore Maiman. Fibre optics are now replacing old metal wires in telecommunications systems as fibres are immune to electromagnetic inter-fence which makes them perfect for data-heavy applications such as the internet, television, and telephone connections.
