Attendance Proposal
January 12, 2016
 Attendance rates have decreased in the last
few years
 In 2007-2008 school year, there was a 97.3%
attendance rate
 In 2014-2015, the percentage was only
92.9%
 An attendance plan needs to be implemented
in order for the rates to go back up
 This partnership should be very involved and
collaborative
 Students are only permitted to miss class with
a valid excuse written by a parent or doctor
 No unexcused absences will be permitted
 Teachers, principals, parents, and the
community will work together
 Students who have better attendance are
more likely to have higher achievement
(Guskey, 2013).
 Students who are in class on a regular basis
will do better in school than those who miss
school
 When students are in class, they are able to
retain the material better, and the teachers
do not have to reteach due to so many
students being absent
 First strategy is to recognize signals from
students who may be slipping in school or
have a different attitude than in previous
years
 Second strategy is to keep track of all
attendance; principals and secretaries will
need to monitor as well
 Last strategy is to discuss this plan with all
students and parents to make sure everyone
is aware of the regulations
 Meet with parents and community
 Discuss plan with students
 Monitor attendance daily
 Watch out for struggling students
 Compare attendance rates after every grading period
 Compare attendance rates with those from last year
to determine whether the plan worked effectively
 Reward students with two or less absences each
grading period. After-school detention will be given
to students each time they break the rule; the parents
will have to figure out a way to pick their child up
since they allowed their child to miss school without
a valid reason.
 After looking at both sets of data, the school
will be able to determine whether or not the
goals were met
 Teachers and parents will be held
accountable for ensuring attendance is taken
and that students are in class when they
should be
 Test scores and grades will be analyzed from
last year and this year
 Was this plan a success based on the data
results?
 Are there any suggestions to make this plan
more effective?
 Do you think attendance is imperative when it
comes to school and achievement? Please
explain.
 Everyone must come together to see the
importance of ensuring why kids should be in
school rather than staying at home or
skipping to go to other places
