The document provides instructions for accessing e-books through two platforms available through the Higher Education Commission's Digital Library: Ebrary and Oxford University Press. For Ebrary, users select their institution to access e-books and can browse by subject, search by keyword, navigate pages, and add notes. Oxford University Press allows keyword and advanced searches, browsing by title, subject or author, and printing pages. Both platforms allow viewing e-book content but prohibit full downloads and only allow limited copying of pages.

1. The access to above 40,000 e-books provided by Higher Education Commission is
available to institutions registered with HEC Digital Library only. The access is enabled
through IP authentication so there is no username and password for access.
There are two different platforms for e-books Ebrary and Oxford University Press.
To Access e-books from Ebrary:
 Select your institution from http://www.digitallibrary.edu.pk/ebraryURLs.html
 Visit the corresponding link for your institution.
 To begin using Ebrary, you must first install the Ebrary Reader. Click Online Training link
on the top right corner and then click on the Get Ebrary Reader button on the bottom
left part of the page.
 On your institutions main page for Ebrary type your search topic in the search for area.
 Browse – Click the Browse button to view the collection by subject. The subjects are
listed per LOC (Library of Congress) classifications. If you wish to be more specific with
your subject choice, click on the plus sign to the left of the subject. A heading tree will
then appear and additional subject headings will be shown.
 Search — Enter a Search Term for example: International Monitory Policy and then click
the Search button. Select a book from your search results and click on the cover, title or
View link. You will be taken to the first page on which your search term appears.
 Navigate — Click the Next Search (arrow with question mark) button to find the next
page in the book of your searched keyword, or flip all the pages using the arrow buttons.
 InfoTools — Use the InfoTools menu to link to additional resources in the Dynamic
Content Platform (DCP), your library and on the Web. InfoTools can be activated from
the ebrary Reader Toolbar, or by selecting text and right clicking.
 If you turn on the Toggle Automenu, the InfoTools menu will come up every time you
select text.
 Bookshelf — It automatically saves links to Highlights, Bookmarks and Notes as you
conduct your research. In the InfoTools menu click Add to Bookshelf to store on your
Personal Bookshelf for future reference.
 Copying & Printing – Sequential download of the ebooks is prohibited and only page by
page copying is possible. You may download up to 40 pages per session.

 Searching — There are two types of searching that you can conduct in Oxford
University Press e-Books:
o Quick Search: Just type a word and go. By default, the Quick Search searches all
parts of the texts except the full text (i.e. it searches titles, authors, keywords and
abstracts at both book and chapter levels). So a Quick Search will find your search
terms in titles, book abstracts, chapter abstracts and keywords.
o Advanced Search: Gives you more options to construct complex queries, and ways to
refine your search. Advanced Search searches by: Title, Author, Keywords, Abstracts,

2. Full Text, ISBN, Year of Publication, Subject, Sort (By: title, author or publication
date).
 Browse – On the top navigation bar you will find three options to browse. You can Browse
By: Title, Subject and Author.
 Viewing the Book — You can view the book either by clicking on the Book Title or by
clicking on the Full Text option. There is no software required to view the book, you will
be able to view it in HTML format.
 Printing — To print any page, simply use the Print Printer Friendly link in the left-hand
navigational area:
 A preview window will appear with the correctly formatted pages, minus the site
navigation components. This may not always produce a perfectly-formatted reproduction
of what you see on screen but will allow more content to be printed.
