After obtaining a Master's degree in neuroscience, the author struggled to find a PhD position in Germany using traditional methods like emailing professors and searching websites. This led to the creation of Academig, a platform dedicated to listing academic research labs in order to help researchers more easily find positions and opportunities. Academig currently lists over 4,000 labs and has 4,000 users, but aims to expand its network of 10,000 labs and 50,000 users by the end of 2020. The platform generates revenue through job posting fees for labs and plans to explore additional revenue streams like data licensing and analytics.
