This document discusses abstinence-only sex education programs and their effectiveness. It notes that abstinence-only programs have been found to provide students with medically inaccurate or misleading information about contraception and reproductive health. In contrast, comprehensive sex education programs provide young people with evidence-based information about relationships, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, and decision making to support healthy choices. While abstinence-only programs were federally funded, many states have declined this funding in favor of comprehensive approaches.

Sex Education to Indian Adolescents – Need of the Houriosrjce
Sex is very sensitive subject and public discussion on sexual matters is considered as a taboo Indian soc
iety. Most of us do not talk openly about the topic in presence of our elders. But there are certain things that the
youth of our country need to know
Teenage pregnancy is pregnancy in human females under the age of 20. A pregnancy can take place after the start of puberty before the first menstrual period but usually occurs after the onset. In well-nourished girls, menarche usually takes place around the age of 12 or 13.
Pregnant teenagers face many of the same obstetrics issues as other women. There are, however, additional medical concerns for mothers aged below 15 years of age. For mothers aged 15–19, risks are associated more with socioeconomic factors than with the biological effects of age. Risks of low birth weight, premature labor, anemia, and pre-eclampsia are connected to the biological age itself, as it was observed in teen births even after controlling for other risk factors (such as utilization of antenatal care etc.).
In developed countries, teenage pregnancies are often associated with social issues, including lower educational levels, higher rates of poverty, and other poorer life outcomes in children of teenage mothers. Teenage pregnancy in developed countries is usually outside of marriage, and carries a social stigma in many communities and cultures. By contrast, teenage parents in developing countries are often married, and their pregnancies welcomed by family and society. However, in these societies, early pregnancy may combine with malnutrition and poor health care to cause medical problems.
Teenage pregnancies appear to be preventable by comprehensive sex education and access to birth control. Abstinence-only sex education does not appear to be effective.
Through generations teenage pregnancy has converted into one of the Philippines' most challenging social issues. Becoming pregnant at such an early age brings multiple obstacles such as, lower expectations of finishing high school, not attending college, and less success in the job industry. Not only do these obstacles regard the teenage parents but harm their unborn child in academic and health issues, for instance tending to score less optimally on assessments of cognitive development and academic achievement, and also tend to exhibit more problem behaviors than other children. Other than social dilemmas there are certain health issues that are more likely to appear in a teenage pregnancy for example the baby is more likely to have a low birth weight, to be born before term, and have developmental delay.
The issue we focus on is premarital sex among teenager that results to teenage pregnancy. Further explanation will be discussed in the parts to follow.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Abstinence
1. Sex Education In Schools
How effective is Abstinence-
Only Sex Education?
2. Defining Abstinence-Only
Education
Section 510 (b) of Title V of the Social Security Act, P.L.
104–193
has as its exclusive purpose teaching the social, psychological, and health
gains to be realized by abstaining from sexual activity;
teaches abstinence from sexual activity outside marriage as the expected
standard for all school-age children;
teaches that abstinence from sexual activity is the only certain way to avoid
out-of wedlock pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and other associated
health problems;
teaches that a mutually faithful monogamous relationship in the context of
marriage is the expected standard of sexual activity;
teaches that sexual activity outside of the context of marriage is likely to have
harmful psychological and physical effects;
teaches that bearing children out-of-wedlock is likely to have harmful
consequences for the child, the child's parents, and society;
teaches young people how to reject sexual advances and how alcohol and drug
use increase vulnerability to sexual advances, and
teaches the importance of attaining self-sufficiency before engaging in sexual
activity.
3. How are these programs harmful
to youth?
● These programs cause students to feel shame or guilt about
sexual feelings they may be having.
● Abstinence only programs lead students to believe that forms of
contraception are entirely ineffective, which cause those same
students to not use contraceptives when they do become sexually
active.
“Analysis of federally funded abstinence-only curricula found that
over 80 percent of curricula supported by the U.S. Department of
Health & Human services contained false, misleading, or distorted
information about reproductive health. Specifically, they conveyed:
· False information about the effectiveness of contraceptives;
· False information about the risks of abortion;
· Religious beliefs as scientific fact;
· Stereotypes about boys and girls as scientific fact; and
· Medical and scientific errors of fact”
4. Should Today's Youth be Lied to?
“Many of the curricula distort information about the risks of sexual activity. In the
case of cervical cancer, the risk of disease is stressed, but simple prevention
measures often go unmentioned. HIV exposure risks are discussed in confusing
terms, and risks of substances and activities are exaggerated. Several curricula
also present misleading information about the relationship between sexual
activity and mental health, inaccurately suggesting that abstinence can solve all
psychological problems.”
Other misleading information found in abstinence only curriculum are as
follows....
HIV/AIDS can spread through tears or sweat.
that 43-day-old fetuses can think
that condoms have a failure rate of 14%,
and that 10% of women who have abortions later commit suicide.
5. Comprehensive Sex Education
● The real Education for Healthy Youth Act was introduced in November 2011
recognizes the right of young people to information in order to make healthy and
responsible decisions about their sexual health; imparts the information they need
to know about—
· anatomy and physiology;
· growth and development;
· healthy relationships;
· prevention of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections,
including HIV, through abstinence and contraception;
· gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation; and
· protection from dating violence, sexual assault, bullying, and harassment
is evidence-based or incorporate characteristics of effective programs proven to
change sexual behavior in young people; includes medically accurate and
developmentally appropriate information; promotes educational achievement,
critical thinking, decision-making, and self-efficacy; fosters leadership skills and
community involvement; is culturally and linguistically appropriate; is inclusive of
lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual students
6. Statistics
“23 states and the District of Columbia have declined to apply for the
annual abstinence education grants set aside for them under Title V”
“Nearly 14 million young people aged 12–18—46% of those nationwide
—reside in states that have passed up abstinence-only funding.”
“The majority (86%) of the decline in the teen pregnancy rate between
1995 and 2002 was the result of dramatic improvements in contraceptive
use, including an increase in the proportion of teens using a single
method of contraception, an increase in the proportion using multiple
methods simultaneously and a substantial decline in non-use. Just 14%
of the decline is attributable to decreased sexual activity”
