Abraham Lincoln overcame many challenges throughout his life that demonstrated his courage and determination. As a young boy, he made long journeys alone and helped bury family members who passed away. As a young man, he volunteered for the military and worked in Congress despite obstacles. As President during the Civil War, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation and worked tirelessly for the abolition of slavery, even though it was unpopular and prolonged the war. To Kill a Mockingbird explores how good and evil may coexist inside a single community or individual while also telling the story of a young girl coming of age and a darker drama about the causes and effects of racism and prejudice.
This book is dedicated to my parents who made the utmost sacrifice and supported me in my journey to the United States at the age of 15. Without my two loving parents I would not be where I am today; a tenured High School History Teacher working in the most impoverished neighborhood in New York City, the South Bronx, where I help students that dropped out of high school achieve their goal and receive a high school diploma. The reason that I feel like I am in the right place for my job is because just like these "lost" students, I was going through a tough transition myself as I left my impoverished 3rd world country and decided to embark on a journey by myself across the ocean for a better opportunity. The toughest students are sometimes the best ones because they either have a goal in mind and they want to succeed, or they are not ready and are very honest with themselves and their teacher and decided that education is not in their cards at that moment of time. I feel that these students are marginalized from society because of their socioeconomic status and it is important that they realize that there is light at the end of tunnel, just like for me my parents decided to leave their pretty cushy jobs to try and support me and my brother in the United States. That is why I decided to publish this book, to show that in each of one there is hope for a better future and we must take in account that life will not always be easy and will throw unexpected moments our way.

Abraham Lincoln Project
1. Abraham Lincoln Lincoln A Photo Biography Book by Russell Freedman Presentation by Shahen Hagen
2. Timeline At 7, he made a 100 mile ride on 2 horses. This is courageous because there might have not been good roads and he could have gotten robbed or hurt. At 23, he volunteered to participate in preventing the hostile Indian tribes from invading. He could have gotten killed or hurt but he still volunteered. At 37, he was in Congress. After three months, his wife and kids left for Kentucky without him. Instead of joining them, he decided to stay and face the rest of his first term alone At 37, he worked long, hard hours with his speech disorder. Now people call him one of the best speakers in U.S history. This is courageous because he knew he was going to have to deal with his disability frequently. At 9, he watched his mother, his aunt and his uncle die. This is courageous because he even buried them and stayed by them until they died.
3. Timeline 2 At 37, in his first year in Congress he spoke his mind even though he was new and did not know anyone. At 38, he voted and made speeches to stop the spread of slavery. That’s courageous because he knew that this might end in violence. At 54, as President, he announced the Emancipation Proclamation which freed many slaves. He knew a lot of people would hate this, but he did it for the good of the society. At 56, the Civil War finally ended. He kept fighting and wishing slaves were free. Now after all that they were free. It was courageous because he knew it would end in war and it did. At 56, a lot of Confederate people wanted to kill him, and he knew that, but he still went to plays and other events, but he paid for it. He died at a show.

11. Hail To The Chief I picked this song because it is perfect for Abe. It expresses him as President. It is a very noble and courageous song, which are two character traits for him. It also a nicely themed song, cool tempo and awesome melody. This song has a 1800s feel to it from my perspective. That is why I think this song is totally perfect for Abe.
