Presentazione tenuta da Michael Chaize per Adobe in occasione del Codemotion del 5 marzo 2011 a Roma - http://www.codemotion.it/
With the rise of a wide range of Internet connected devices, a new class of application is emerging to work across multiple kinds of devices. Developers are now faced with new challenges to provide the most engaging user experiences on any screen. New device input methods like touch and gestures require developers to rethink interaction models. Screen size constraints also require developers to optimize real estate usage. With so many different mediums for delivering rich Internet applications
Ericsson Labs is a website primarily provided to you as a developer and innovator of new applications where we will provide you early prototypes of new enabling technologies for you to experiment with.
Slides presented at the JAX2010 keynote in Germany by Michael CHAIZE, Flash Platform Evangelist for Adobe. Rich Internet Applications developed with Flex and JAVA.
Saลกa Hassan presented recent launches of Machine Translation on the eBay site for various locales, e.g. Russian and Latin American markets, which enables buyers to shop in their native languages and fosters overall cross-border trade. Engaging vendors to ensure quality expectations are met. LSPs are all faced with quality demands from their clients. As clients, which methodology should we use in order to ensure vendors meet our needs for human translation? In this session, weโll explore the approach eBay has taken from the start (from testing Lingua Leads + back-ups, providing regular evaluations and holding vendors financially accountable for quality deliverables, to close communication between our internal linguists and our vendorsโ language teams). Other companies may do it completely differently and still obtain good quality. They may also automate HT Quality Evaluation, which is the next step we are looking at in our journey. This topic will allow panelists to express their views on how to best engage LSPs to deliver quality and to generate a healthy debate during our break-out session.
How to ensure quality for non-conventional content such as games, travel reviews and movies. How to define whatโs relevant to QE for content that might have short life cycle within the product versus other aspects of the player or user experience which might be more critical? Letโs examine the role of traditional linguistic and functional quality testing vis-ร -vis new approaches which focus on areas users might consider more important. How to balance quality - as we currently define it - with real expectations set by users, keeping in mind that userโs expectations might touch a variety of product areas and not include linguistic quality at all?
MT providers claim that (customized) MT "helps you translate more words and grow your business". It "boosts productivity". And it can even "increase revenues" or "optimize customer service and support". What is the reality? Is MT improving or did we reach a plateau? Speakers at last year's QE Summit agreed: one of the main problems in the translation industry today is the lack of benchmarking. The output of MT engines cannot be compared to industry averages or standards because these are not yet available. Automated scores are meaningless outside the โlaboratoryโ. At the same time, buyers of translation services are increasingly interested in translated content of different quality levels. They also want to know how the different engines are performing on different content types and in different language pairs. How do we know? Can we predict the output quality? Shouldnโt MT providers become more transparent to help buyers of these technologies make informed decisions?

An overview how language service providers (LSPs) enforce translation quality and whether they follow standardised linguistic quality assurance (LQA) processes. General QA trends are presented based on STP, a translation agency, experiences from co-operating with other translation agencies. A brief outline of LQA methodologies and a summary of QA procedures followed at STP are discussed.
Quality standards in the industry have come a long way. They have evolved over the years, but their focus on quality definitions based on errors and metrics has remained the accepted wisdom. Expectations of end users are changing. Every piece of content has a job to do, and it is often to touch the heart of users rather than just the mind by delivering information that is accurate and whose quality is measurable. A new โquality evaluation paradigmโ is emerging. This calls for a new profile for translators, one that is different from what has been typical for the past few decades. This presentation will look at this trend in more detail, considering how to test these new types of translators fast and effectively. What matters in this emerging quality model and what does it possibly mean for DQF?
Language Quality Management: Models, Measures, Methodologies Sajan
ย
With growing content, shorter release dates and many target languages, itโs important for global companies to have a process in place to track and measure translation effectiveness. Learn how big companies like Microsoft, Snap-on Diagnostics and Symantec manage translation quality.
Review processes as the last step in quality assurance workflows are โnotorious for causing delays and frustrationsโ. The reason normally is a flawed process: Many manual steps for the PMs, the lack of intuitive, layout-oriented collaboration software, plus the expectation of review to โfix a broken translationโ in the last second rather than giving strategic process input. globalReview shifts this paradigm: As an integrated, collaborative platform with full layout editing it provides a positive review experience. At the same time, it pushes quality upstream applying DQF principles: Flexible content profiles define precise quality expectations; issue categories and scoring effectively gauge and also track translation quality over time; a sampling module allows for fast yet accurate quality evaluation. Put together, this allows the customer to raise the process from painful review to strategic quality management and gain valuable business intelligence.
Most of LSPs have not converted the translated bilingual documents to TM till now. Even the LSPs have established TMs, they are also confronted with disordered management of TMs and low efficiency. This report will share the way of quick TM establishment with Tmxmall Cloud-Based Smart Aligner, the way of Management of large-scale TMs with Private Cloud-Based TM for achieving pre-translation with large-scale TMs and team cooperation and etc.. Besides, the report will introduce Tmxmall TM marketplace, which is expected to promote TM sharing. Finally, we will share the experience of LSPs on alignment and Private Cloud-Based TM management for reducing translation costs and increasing profits.
As contents published on the Internet are becoming more and more dominated by videos, requirements on the language translation have also changed. Specifically, video publishers and distributors have a significant interest in balancing both the translation time and the accuracy. To this end, Pactera has invested in solutions, which leverage machine translation to reduce the overall translation time, and recruit human translators to improve the accuracy in a Wikipedia-like fashion. At Pactera, we aim to help video contents to reach billions of people that were not possible before.
The presentation will introduce the NLP technologies used in Shiyibao and the main product features, covering the following points:
Function of giving automatic grades for translations based on translation quality automatic evaluation algorithm;
Function of giving automatic comments based on rules matching;
Function of sorting translations according to their similarity or some specific fragments to dramatically improve the efficiency of reviewing and commenting on translations.
Beelders Using Vision And Voice To Create A Multimodal Interface For Microsof...Kalle
ย
There has recently been a call to move away from the standard WIMP type of interfaces and give users access to more intuitive
interaction techniques. Therefore, it in order to test the usability of a multimodal interface in Word 2007, the most popular word processor, the additional modalities of eye gaze and speech recognition were added within Word 2007 as interaction techniques.
This paper discusses the developed application and the way in which the interaction techniques are included within the
well-established environment of Word 2007. The additional interaction techniques are fully customizable and can be used in
isolation or in combination. Eye gaze can be used with dwell time, look and shoot or blinking and speech recognition can be
used for dictation and verbal commands for both formatting purposes and navigation through a document. Additionally, the
look and shoot method can also be combined with a verbal command to facilitate a completely hands-free interaction. Magnification of the interface is also provided to improve accuracy and multiple onscreen keyboards are provided to provide hands free typing capabilities.

Monitoring and observability arenโt traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current companyโs observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumbleโฆ.many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
