1) The study evaluated 225 volunteers residing near agricultural fields in Multan, Pakistan to determine the incidence of organophosphorus toxicity. Blood samples were tested for acetylcholinesterase levels.
2) Results showed 6 volunteers (2.67%) had acetylcholinesterase levels below 5300 IU/ml, indicating acute exposure. A further 4 volunteers had levels between 5300-5500 IU/ml. The majority showed at least 25% reduction.
3) Clinical examinations found symptoms like weakness, abdominal pain, and diarrhea in over half of volunteers. While levels were not highly reduced, long-term low-level exposure may still cause harm. Strict regulations and education are needed.

Aim of Study: To evaluate the serum levels of serum amyloid A (SAA) protein in newborns with HIE during the first week of life and after 3 and 6 months of follow up to assess its correlation with degree of HIE neurological sequlee. Patients and Methods; This case-control study was conducted on 72 infants; group (1) included 36 full term neonates diagnosed as HIE and group (2)included 36 age and sex matched, infants as a control group, Serum amyloid A by ELIZA technique was measured at post natal age of 1 and 7 days, CT scan was done in justified cases .with follow up at age of 3 and 6 months for neurological sequlee. Results: SAA protein level was elevated in the asphyxiated group in comparison to the control group at day 1 and day 7, SAA level was significantly correlated to the Sarnat scoring system of HIE. SAA level significantly differ on follow up of developmental milestone at age of 3 and 6 months. ROC curve for validity of SAA for severity of HIE at cut off point > 25μg/ml at day 1 and at cut off point > 20 μg/ml at day 7 of HIE diagnosis reported sensitivity 100% and specificity 100% .Conclusion: SAA correlates with the severity of HIE and higher SAA expression is a prognostic marker for morbidity in these infants.

Introduction: The hemoglobinopathy is a real public health problem in the world The aim of this study to épister of children with abnormalities of hemoglobin in schools, especially kindergartens in the city of Parakou Republic of Benin.
Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, conducted in kindergartens in the city of Parakou in Benin republic and having concerned 690 children aged 2 ½ to 5 years. The hemoglobin electrophoresis was done using alkaline pH hydragel and the quantification of haemoglobin fractions were performed with Hyrys densitometer; in some cases the medium is reduced for precipitation test.
Results: Five types of Hb were identified: A, S, M, C and K probably Woolwich. Qualitative hemoglobinopathy was found in 31.45% of the study population. The Hb-S was the most frequent (16.52%) followed by hemoglobin C (15.65%). Hereditary persistence of hemoglobin F was associated with phenotypes AA, AC and SS in 1.16% of cases. The hemoglobinopathies were found in all the major ethnic groups in Parakou with a clear predominance among "Lokpa" (53.3%) and "Adja" (37.5%).
Conclusion: The hemoglobinopathy is a real public health problem in Parakou, it is necessary to establish or to legislate for mandatory testing for hemoglobinopathies at birth.

Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) is a glycoprotein, a member of the transforming growth factor-B super family. This hormone is a sensitive marker of ovarian reserve. The present study aims to measure the Anti-Mullerian hormone in thalassemic females receiving the regular blood transfusion as well as patients of chronic idiopathic thrombocgtopenic purpura and age and sex matched controls. Serum Anti-Mullerian hormone was measured by ELISA and Ferritin were measured by RIA. Clinical evaluation was done for all patients including anthropometric measurements, pubertal staging and history taking. Results of the study were analyzed by appropriate statistical methods. Obtained results revealed that the values of Body Mass Index as well as Anti-Mullerian were significantly higher in controls than thalassemics and chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and there was a negative correlation between serum Ferritin and Anti-Mullerian hormone. Moreover, Anti-Mullerian hormone was significantly higher in patients receiving Desferal than in those receiving Deferriprone. Reduced Anti-Mullerian hormone in thalassemics as well as chronic ITP patients are considered an important indicator declines in ovarian function which entail modification in the therapeutic plans for thalassemic and chronic ITP patients.

Comparative Cytotoxic Activities of the Flavonoid-Rich Ethyl Acetate Fruit Ex...inventionjournals
The fruit of Pouteriacampechianahas been previously reported to contain flavonoids and polyphenolic substances with high in vitro anti-oxidative effects. Its anti-tumorigenic activities have not been previously demonstrated. This study seeks to demonstrate the cytotoxic effects of the flavonoid-rich ethyl acetate fraction of the fruit extract of P. campechiana(EAFFPC) against K562 leukemic cell lines and healthy human whole blood cells. The standardized MTT-dye cell viability assay was carried out to measure the cytotoxicity of EAFFPC against the aforementioned cell lines cultured in RPMI. The assay showed that at a 60 µg well concentration, EAFFPC exhibited a 55.4% cell viability which is significantly lower than the cell viability obtained with 10 µg of vincristine. In contrast, EAFFPC demonstrated concentration-dependent cytoprotective properties in healthy human whole blood cells (HHWBC). This study confirms specific nonconcentration-dependent cytotoxic effects on K562 leukemic cell lines while exhibiting a concentrationdependent cytoprotective effects in HHWBC

The present study was performed to evaluate the incidence of organophosphorus toxicity among
agrarian and non agrarian subjects residing near agriculture fields. The location of this study
was Nawakot village, Multan. From the cotton producing area of Multan, 225 volunteers (far-
mers) including 103 females and 122 males were selected. Children <12 years of age constitute
15% of the population. A total of 100 volunteers (non agrarians) from Multan city were taken as
control. Blood (4 ml) was drawn from the volunteers to test the level of acetylcholine estrase
(Ach E) in plasma. The blood samples were then analysed at the laboratory of National Poison
Control Center (NPCC). Organo-phosphate (OP) & carbamates (CM) both act to block Ach E
hydrolysis, necessary for synaptic response in the CNS. Acute illnesses were seen in 6 (2.67%),
children (group 1). They had fever and signs of pulmonary infections. Generalised weakness
was found in 9 males and 13 females. Paraesthesia was found in 11 volunteers of group IV.
Blood sampling test revealed that 6 volunteers (2.67%) had plasma Ach E below 5300 IU/ml (<
50% reduction), whereas 4 volunteers had Ach E level between 5300 - 5500 IU/ml (< 45%
reduction), 81 volunteers fall in group “c”, and 126 individuals had an Ach E reduction of at least
25% and 8 volunteers had the serum cholinesterase level above 10000 IU/ml. None of volun-
teers had the value above 11000 IU whereas plasma Ach E level of control population was
between 11500 - 13500 IU/ml. Medical tests of the level of Ach E in plasma suggest that the over-
all incidence of poisoning from exposure to OP & CM is quite high, and appears to be consistent
with the results from other studies in other developing countries.
