IRTR is a new method for recognizing in real-time what TV channel a person is watching using their smartphone. It works by extracting audio fingerprints from the TV signal recorded by the smartphone and identifying the channel through likelihood estimation. Experimental results show a correct decision rate of 95%, computation time of around 2 seconds, and over 90% power savings compared to previous methods. The system aims to automate audience measurement for advertisers.
