Intelligent task processing using mobile edge computing: processing time opti...IAESIJAI
The fast-paced development of the internet of things led to the increase of computing resource services that could provide a fast response time, which is an unsatisfied feature when using cloud infrastructures due to network latency. Therefore, mobile edge computing became an emerging model by extending computation and storage resources to the network edge, to meet the demands of delay-sensitive and heavy computing applications. Computation offloading is the main feature that makes Edge computing surpass the existing cloud-based technologies to break limitations such as computing capabilities, battery resources, and storage availability, it enhances the durability and performance of mobile devices by offloading local intensive computation tasks to edge servers. However, the optimal solution is not always guaranteed by offloading computation, there-fore, the offloading decision is a crucial step depending on many parameters that should be taken in consideration. In this paper, we use a simulator to compare a two tier edge orchestrator architecture with the results obtained by implementing a system model that aims to minimize a task’s processing time constrained by time delay and the limited device’s computational resource and usage based on a modified version.
Cloud computing offers to users worldwide a low cost on-demand services, according to their requirements. In the recent years, the rapid growth and service quality of cloud computing has made it an attractive technology for different Tech Companies. However with the growing number of data centers resources, high levels of energy cost are being consumed with more carbon emissions in the air. For instance, the Google data center estimation of electric power consumption is equivalent to the energy requirement of a small sized city. Also, even if the virtualization of resources in cloud computing datacenters may reduce the number of physical machines and hardware equipments cost, it is still restrained by energy consumption issue. Energy efficiency has become a major concern for today’s cloud datacenter researchers, with a simultaneous improvement of the cloud service quality and reducing operation cost. This paper analyses and discusses the literature review of works related to the contribution of energy efficiency enhancement in cloud computing datacenters. The main objective is to have the best management of the involved physical machines which host the virtual ones in the cloud datacenters.
An Approach to Reduce Energy Consumption in Cloud data centers using Harmony ...ijccsa
Fast development of knowledge and communication has established a new computational style which is
known as cloud computing. One of the main issues considered by the cloud infrastructure providers, is to
minimize the costs and maximize the profitability. Energy management in the cloud data centers is very
important to achieve such goal. Energy consumption can be reduced either by releasing idle nodes or by
reducing the virtual machines migrations. To do the latter, one of the challenges is to select the placement
approach of the migrated virtual machines on the appropriate node. In this paper, an approach to reduce
the energy consumption in cloud data centers is proposed. This approach adapts harmony search
algorithm to migrate the virtual machines. It performs the placement by sorting the nodes and virtual
machines based on their priority in descending order. The priority is calculated based on the workload.
The proposed approach is simulated. The evaluation results show the reduction in the virtual machine
migrations, the increase of efficiency and the reduction of energy consumption.

Implementing Workload Postponing In Cloudsim to Maximize Renewable Energy Uti...IJERA Editor
Green datacenters has become a major research area among researchers in academy and industry. One of the
recent approaches getting higher attention is supplying datacenters with renewable sources of energy, leading to
cleaner and more sustainable datacenters. However, this path poses new challenges. The main problem with
existing renewable energy technologies is high variability, which means high fluctuation of available energy
during different time periods on a day, month or year. In our paper, we address the issue of better managing
datacenter workload in order to achieve higher utilization of available renewable energy. We implement an
algorithm in CloudSim simulator which decides to postpone or urgently run a specific job asking for datacenter
resources, based on job’s deadline and available solar energy. The aim of this algorithm is to make workload
energy consumption through 24 hours match as much as possible the solar energy availability in 24 hours. Two
typical, clear and cloudy days, are taken in consideration for simulation. The results from our experiments show
that, for the chosen workload model, jobs are better managed by postponing or urgently running them, in terms
of leveraging available solar energy. This yields up to 17% higher utilization of daily solar energy
Optimization of energy consumption in cloud computing datacenters IJECEIAES
Cloud computing has emerged as a practical paradigm for providing IT resources, infrastructure and services. This has led to the establishment of datacenters that have substantial energy demands for their operation. This work investigates the optimization of energy consumption in cloud datacenter using energy efficient allocation of tasks to resources. The work seeks to develop formal optimization models that minimize the energy consumption of computational resources and evaluates the use of existing optimization solvers in testing these models. Integer linear programming (ILP) techniques are used to model the scheduling problem. The objective is to minimize the total power consumed by the active and idle cores of the servers’ CPUs while meeting a set of constraints. Next, we use these models to carry out a detailed performance comparison between a selected set of Generic ILP and 0-1 Boolean satisfiability based solvers in solving the ILP formulations. Simulation results indicate that in some cases the developed models have saved up to 38% in energy consumption when compared to common techniques such as round robin. Furthermore, results also showed that generic ILP solvers had superior performance when compared to SAT-based ILP solvers especially as the number of tasks and resources grow in size.

An optimized cost-based data allocation model for heterogeneous distributed ...IJECEIAES
Continuous attempts have been made to improve the flexibility and effectiveness of distributed computing systems. Extensive effort in the fields of connectivity technologies, network programs, high processing components, and storage helps to improvise results. However, concerns such as slowness in response, long execution time, and long completion time have been identified as stumbling blocks that hinder performance and require additional attention. These defects increased the total system cost and made the data allocation procedure for a geographically dispersed setup difficult. The load-based architectural model has been strengthened to improve data allocation performance. To do this, an abstract job model is employed, and a data query file containing input data is processed on a directed acyclic graph. The jobs are executed on the processing engine with the lowest execution cost, and the system's total cost is calculated. The total cost is computed by summing the costs of communication, computation, and network. The total cost of the system will be reduced using a Swarm intelligence algorithm. In heterogeneous distributed computing systems, the suggested approach attempts to reduce the system's total cost and improve data distribution. According to simulation results, the technique efficiently lowers total system cost and optimizes partitioned data allocation.
Achieving Energy Proportionality In Server ClustersCSCJournals
a great amount of interests in the past few years. Energy proportionality is a principal to ensure that energy consumption is proportional to the system workload. Energy proportional design can effectively improve energy efficiency of computing systems. In this paper, an energy proportional model is proposed based on queuing theory and service differentiation in server clusters, which can provide controllable and predictable quantitative control over power consumption with theoretically guaranteed service performance. Futher study for the transition overhead is carried out corresponding strategy is proposed to compensate the performance degradation caused by transition overhead. The model is evaluated via extensive simulations and is justified by the real workload data trace. The results show that our model can achieve satisfied service performance while still preserving energy efficiency in the system.

minimize the costs and maximize the profitability.

A novel integrated approach for handling anomalies in RFID dataijujournal
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a convenient technology employed in various applications. The
success of these RFID applications depends heavily on the quality of the data stream generated by RFID
readers. Due to various anomalies found predominantly in RFID data it limits the widespread adoption of
this technology. Our work is to eliminate the anomalies present in RFID data in an effective manner so that
it can be applied for high end applications. Our approach is a hybrid approach of middleware and
deferred because it is not always possible to remove all anomalies and redundancies in middleware. The
processing of other anomalies is deferred until the query time and cleaned by business rules. Experimental
results show that the proposed approach performs the cleaning in an effective manner compared to the

ENHANCING INDEPENDENT SENIOR LIVING THROUGH SMART HOME TECHNOLOGIESijujournal
The population of elderly folks is ballooning worldwide as people live longer. But getting older often
means declining health and trouble living solo. Smart home tech could keep an eye on old folks and get
help quickly when needed so they can stay independent. This paper looks at a system combining wireless
sensors, video watches, automation, resident monitoring, emergency detection, and remote access. Sensors
track health signs, activities, appliance use. Video analytics spot odd stuff like falls. Sensor fusion and
machine learning find normal patterns so wonks can see unhealthy changes and send alerts. Multi-channel
alerts reach caregivers and emergency folks. A LabVIEW can integrate devices and enables local and
remote oversight and can control and handle emergency responses. Benefits seem to be early illness clues,
quick help, less burden on caregivers, and optimized home settings. But will old folks use all this tech? Can
we prove it really helps folks live longer and better? More research on maximizing reliability and
evaluating real-world impacts is needed. But designed thoughtfully, smart homes could may profoundly
improve the aging experience.
HMR LOG ANALYZER: ANALYZE WEB APPLICATION LOGS OVER HADOOP MAPREDUCEijujournal
In today’s Internet world, log file analysis is becoming a necessary task for analyzing the customer’s
behavior in order to improve advertising and sales as well as for datasets like environment, medical,
banking system it is important to analyze the log data to get required knowledge from it. Web mining is the
process of discovering the knowledge from the web data. Log files are getting generated very fast at the
rate of 1-10 Mb/s per machine, a single data center can generate tens of terabytes of log data in a day.
These datasets are huge. In order to analyze such large datasets we need parallel processing system and
reliable data storage mechanism. Virtual database system is an effective solution for integrating the data
but it becomes inefficient for large datasets. The Hadoop framework provides reliable data storage by
Hadoop Distributed File System and MapReduce programming model which is a parallel processing
system for large datasets. Hadoop distributed file system breaks up input data and sends fractions of the
original data to several machines in hadoop cluster to hold blocks of data. This mechanism helps to
process log data in parallel using all the machines in the hadoop cluster and computes result efficiently.
The dominant approach provided by hadoop to “Store first query later”, loads the data to the Hadoop
Distributed File System and then executes queries written in Pig Latin. This approach reduces the response
time as well as the load on to the end system. This paper proposes a log analysis system using Hadoop
MapReduce which will provide accurate results in minimum response time.

DETERMINING THE NETWORK THROUGHPUT AND FLOW RATE USING GSR AND AAL2Rijujournal
In multi-radio wireless mesh networks, one node is eligible to transmit packets over multiple channels to
different destination nodes simultaneously. This feature of multi-radio wireless mesh network makes high
throughput for the network and increase the chance for multi path routing. This is because the multiple
channel availability for transmission decreases the probability of the most elegant problem called as
interference problem which is either of interflow and intraflow type. For avoiding the problem like
interference and maintaining the constant network performance or increasing the performance the WMN
need to consider the packet aggregation and packet forwarding. Packet aggregation is process of collecting
several packets ready for transmission and sending them to the intended recipient through the channel,
while the packet forwarding holds the hop-by-hop routing. But choosing the correct path among different
available multiple paths is most the important factor in the both case for a routing algorithm. Hence the
most challenging factor is to determine a forwarding strategy which will provide the schedule for each
node for transmission within the channel. In this research work we have tried to implement two forwarding
strategies for the multi path multi radio WMN as the approximate solution for the above said problem. We
have implemented Global State Routing (GSR) which will consider the packet forwarding concept and
Aggregation Aware Layer 2 Routing (AAL2R) which considers the both concept i.e. both packet forwarding
and packet aggregation. After the successful implementation the network performance has been measured
by means of simulation study.

1. INTRODUCTION
With the development of high speed networks, there is an alarming rise in its usage comprised of
Web queries a day and thousands of e-commerce transactions. A large scale data centers handle
this ever increasing demand by consolidating hundreds and thousands of servers with other
infrastructure such as cooling, network systems and storage. The development of this
commercialization is named as cloud computing. Clouds are sky rocketing virtualized data
centers and applications offered as services on a subscription basis. The characteristics exhibited
by Clouds are shown in Figure 1

[5]. According to [15], the recent studies reveal that the ideal system consumes 70% of energy.
The virtualization technology is to resolve those problems [4]. The performance optimization,
energy saving, load balancing and on demand resource allocation can be achieved by using good
resource management scheme [21]. There is a relationship between energy consumption and
resource utilization in cloud computing. If the energy consumption increases tremendously which
directly affect the performance of the cloud in a while increases the cost.
In this survey paper, energy harnessing techniques are discussed. The remaining paper is
organized as follows: Section 2 presents overview, Section 3 presents the literature review of the
existing methods of energy efficient techniques, and Section 4 presents conclusions.
2. OVERVIEW
2.1 Energy Consumption Problem
The major problem in cloud is energy sprawl. This is due to two reasons. One is manual faults
like improper scheduling and work overload [5, 10] and other is due to hike in monetary cost of
electricity [13]. The manual faults can be resolved by using monitoring and virtualization [12].
Second problem can be resolved by harnessing the renewable energy [9]. The two levels in
energy consumption problem are shown in Figure 2
Figure2. Levels in energy consumption
2.1.1 Monitoring
It revealed that you cannot improve what you do not measure. Power metering is essential to
construct power models that knowledge the system to know the energy consumed by a particular
device, and how it can be reduced [12]. The virtual machine power metering follows the three
steps such as: information collection, modelling and estimation in a while the unified efficiency
of a data centers are measured and improve its performance per-watt.
2.1.2 Virtualization
Virtualization technology provides the flexible resource provisioning and migration of machine
state [5]. Due to hot spot, excess space capacity and load imbalance which migrates the machine.
Virtualization enables the consolidation, load balancing and hot spot mitigation [4]. It allocate
data center resources dynamically based on application demands and support green computing by
optimizing number of servers in use.

2.1.3 Renewable energy
Cloud computing uses the brown energy which leads to hike in electricity bill and increase energy
consumption. Harnessing renewable energy is used to address many issues like carbon emission,
greenhouse gas emission and energy consumption [8], [9]. Renewable energy sources have less
carbon emission rate rather than fossil fuels.
3. EXISTING ENERGY EFFICIENT MODELS IN THE CLOUD
3.1. Workload Consolidation
Srikantaiah et al. [22] have analyzed the relationship between resource and energy consumption.
Moreover, the performances of workload consolidation were evaluated. The authors used two
main features including, disk usage and CPU cycles in a bin-packing problem for task
consolidation. Based on Pareto frontier algorithm the authors merged tasks and balance energy
consumption by computing optimal points. The proposed technique was to compute optimal
points from profiling data. An energy aware resource allocation mechanism used profiling step.
The Euclidean distance measure between the current and the ideal point for each server is
computed by profiling step.
3.2. Virtual Machine Power Metering
ChonglinGu et al. [12] have proposed virtual machine power metering which reduces the power
consumption of data centers. There are three steps in virtual power metering such as information
collection, modeling, and estimation. Power measured for the servers by deploying external meter
and internal meter. It applies two methods as white box method and black box method. The black
box method is used widely. The power meter is needed for virtual machine service billing, power
budgeting, power saving scheduling. The unified efficiency of a data centers are measured and
improve its performance per-watt.
3.3. Energy Conservation Techniques
Mehiar Dabbagh et al. [22] have analysed power management techniques that exploit
virtualization technology to save energy. Prediction, consolidation and over commitment
techniques are deployed. Workload prediction is used to turn off the unused physical machines to
save energy. The overloaded machines are consolidated by virtual machine placement and
workload consolidation. Resource over commitment is to reserve the resources in overly manner.
It achieves the green energy.
3.4. Virtual Machine Scheduling
Dong Jiankang et al. [20] leveraged virtual machine scheduling to solve the combination of bin
packing problem and quadratic assignment problem. It employs the two stage heuristic algorithm
with virtual machine placement and migration. Virtual machine placement is to meet the physical
capacity and network bandwidth. Virtual machine migration to minimize the migration costs to
optimize the network maximum link utilization to reduce the energy consumption. c++ is used to
develop the algorithm. Compared to random algorithm the energy consumption is low.
3.5. Renewable energy – aware migration
UttamMandal et al. [8] have developed the renewable energy aware cloud service and virtual
machine migration to relocate energy demand using resource allocation technique. This technique

4
is used to migrate from one data center to another if more renewable energy is available in
destination. A virtual machine is migrated to more green energy powered data center. Renewable
energy aware migration tries to replace brown energy with green energy.
3.6. Tasks Oriented Energy-Aware Scheduling
Xiaomin Zhu et al. [15] have proposed energy aware scheduling and rolling horizon is named as
EARH algorithm. Algorithm employs a rolling horizon optimization policy integrated with
energy aware scheduling. Rolling horizon has a real time controller and virtual machine controller
to hold new task along with the waiting task. Rolling horizon adjusts the tasks. After that the
energy aware scheduling algorithm performs the resource scale up and scale down. It was
implemented by cloudsim toolkit. The experimental results indicate that scheduling quality is
improved and it saves the energy
3.7. Ant Colony System
Fahimeh Farahnakian et al. [19] have proposed ant colony based virtual machine consolidation
which uses artificial ants to consolidate virtual machine into a reduced number of physical
machines based on the current resource requests and ants work in parallel to build virtual machine
migration. It composed with global and local agent. Global agent consolidates virtual machine
into reduced number of physical machine. Local agent detects physical machine status. It was
implemented by cloudsim toolkit. Result shows that this technique reduces the energy
consumption up to 53.4% than the dynamic virtual machine consolidation.
3.8. Dynamic Resource Allocation
Zhen Xiao et al. [4] have proposed virtualization technology. Virtualization enables the
consolidation, load balancing and hot spot mitigation. Virtualization technology provides the
flexible resource provisioning and migration of machine state. Due to hot spot, excess space
capacity and load imbalance which migrates the machine. The SKEWNESSS algorithm is used to
measure the uneven utilization of server. Algorithm is simulated by trace driven simulation. It
achieves green computing.
3.9. Energy-Aware Scheduling
Li Hongyou et al. [6] have marshalled the workload aware consolidation technique. Energy-aware
Scheduling algorithm and the Energy- aware Live Migration algorithms are used. It accords the
users to access the multiple resources concurrently in cloud data center. Algorithms audit the
problem of consolidating heterogeneous workloads. Simulation results show that both algorithms
convince the promising energy saving capability.
3.10. Energy-Aware Task Consolidation
Ching-Hsien Hsu et al. [11] have developed a technique that reduces energy consumption is
energy-aware task consolidation (ETC) technique. ETC restricts CPU use below a specified peak
threshold. Task consolidation is the major work of ETC. When a task migrates to other virtual
clusters considered as network latency by energy cost model. Compared ETC with MAXUTIL
for evaluation. MAXUTIL is a greedy algorithm that aspires to maximize cloud computing
resources. The simulation result shows that 17% improvement over MAXUTIL.

4. CONCLUSIONS
In this survey, we focused on key parameters of energy consumption problem. The existing
models are explained. From the survey it is found that some of the models are yet to be
implemented. The power metering and virtualization technologies are useful to utilize the energy
in efficient way. Cloud computing much more energy efficient, there are still many technological
solutions and enhanced green cloud framework is needed to achieve energy efficient cloud
computing in reality.
