As the world of system and application deployment continues to change, the sys admin and security community needs to change with it. With agile development, continuous deployment, the pace of change in IT has only increased. Add in Dev/Ops and the traditional sys admin and security processes just don’t work. How can you rapidly deliver servers and applications while making sure they are built reliably and securely. Rackspace has been developing a tool to help them design, deploy and security assess complex configurations for customers called Checkmate. This talk will cover the concepts behind and the architecture of Checkmate and how it helps minimize the time to deploy systems and verify they have been created to spec and in a secure state. A discussion of how Checkmate has inspired the concept of Test Driven Security based on the Test Driven Development model familiar to the development world.

Enabling multicloud in the enterprise with DevSecOpsJosh Boyd
Core federal agencies are using multiple cloud providers to avoid vendor lock-in and optimize their workloads' infrastructure. Taking advantage of each cloud provider's strengths comes with some challenges: multicloud security and compliance, inventory tracking, resource utilization, and software delivery automation.
In this session, you'll see how Red Hat CloudForms and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, paired with Booz Allen’s Solutions Delivery Platform, addresses these challenges and brings governance to your DevOps pipeline and multicloud environment.
Learn how Github analytics can help you gauge the health of your DevOps release cycle, gain visibility into team productivity, and secure your intellectual property.

DevOps, A path to Enterprises to Adopt [Decoding DevOps Conference - InfoSep...InfoSeption
A look at how enterprises should adopt DevOps, and an excellent look at the patterns driving a cultural change within DevOps following organisation and their benefits.
Devops - Continuous delivery patterns with serverless stackcksiva09
The key pattern introduced in continuous delivery is the deployment pipeline. This pattern emerged from several projects where teams were struggling with complex, fragile, painful manual processes for preparing testing and production environments and deploying builds to them. Team already worked to automate a significant amount of the regression and acceptance testing, but it was taking weeks to get builds to integrated environments for full regression testing, and our first deployment to production took an entire weekend.
Developing and delivering applications in a repeatable way, with the expected quality is a great challenge these days. In order to maximize business value at-the-speed-of-business, initiatives are being driven both by the development or delivery teams and by operations. They each have their own focus and specifics, but in essence they are both centered around: Collaboration and integration, automation, standardization and governance.
DevOps is a methodology capturing the practices adopted from the very start by the web giants who had a unique opportunity as well as a strong requirement to invent new ways of working due to the very nature of their business: the need to evolve their systems at an unprecedented pace as well as extend them and their business sometimes on a daily basis.
While DevOps makes obviously a critical sense for startups, I believe that the big corporations with large and old-fashioned IT departments are actually the ones that can benefit the most from adopting these principles and practices.

Dependency Health: Removing the Barriers to Keeping Projects in ShapeDevOps.com
Enterprises and Developers already know the importance of managing vulnerabilities and dependencies, so why do so many still fall behind?
Like maintaining good physical health, software projects require more than just good intentions - there needs to be sensible and achievable process that developers want to follow, and the rewards must outweigh the demands.
In this webinar, David Habusha and Rhys Arkins from WhiteSource will discuss some of today's challenges that hold enterprises back from having great Open Source dependency management, and identify what the missing pieces are for a future in which updates and vulnerability patches can be applied intelligently, safely, and in many cases even automatically.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
