HISTORY OF COCONUT TREE
 Coconut trees are thought to have
originated in South America and have
been cultivated for thousands of
years BC around the Andes Valley in
Colombia.
 Meanwhile, another opinion reveals
that the coconut tree comes from
South Asia or the Pacific.
 In the Philippines and Sri Lanka, it
has been found since 300 BC, and in
India, it has been known since 3000
years ago.
Biological name of coconut tree is Cocos
nucifera.
Member of the palm tree family
(Arecaceae) and the only living species of
the genus Cocos.
The term "coconut" can refer to the whole
coconut palm, the seed, or the fruit, which
botanically is a drupe, not a nut.
The name comes from the old Portugese word
coco, meaning "head" or "skull", after the
three indentations on the coconut shell that
BIOLOGICAL FEATURES OF COCONUT TREE
GROWTHOF COCONUT TREE
 Coconut trees can reach 30 m in
height. Coconut trees have strong
and long roots that can take
water and minerals deep into the
soil.
 The ability of the roots to take
up minerals and water makes the
coconut tree able to grow high.
 Every month a coconut tree can
grow 60-100 centimeters.
LIFE SPANOF COCONUTTREE
 Coconut trees can live 100
yearsCoconut trees can
live between 60 to 100
years and can.
 After about 4 -10 years
old, coconut trees in
adulthood begin to grow
flowers and then grow
coconuts.
PRODUCTIONOF COCONUT
 World coconut production reaches
62.46 million tons.
 One of the countries that are the
most significant contributor to
coconut production is Indonesia.
 Indonesia is capable of producing
around 17.13 million annually.
 The amount of coconut production
is influenced by the many benefits
of coconut.
TREE OF LIFE
 One of the trees is called the “tree of
life.”
 This is because all parts of the coconut
tree can be utilized.
 Products derived from coconut trees are
cosmetics, processed foods, crafts to
fuel.
 Coconut coir is no exception, which can
also be used as an environmentally
friendly fuel.
CELEBRATING COCONUT
 World Coconut day is celebrated
every September 2nd.
 The purpose of World Coconut Day
is to make people aware of the
importance and benefit of coconut
products for health as well as for
the economy.
 The celebration of World Coconut
Day was started in 2009 by the
APCC (Asian and Pacific Coconut
Community).
“BAHALINA”-THE WINE
 Coconut can be made into
wine Bahalina, or what is
called coconut red wine, is
a traditional drink from the
Philippines.
 Bahalina comes from
fermented coconut, which has
been fermented for several
years.
 Bahalina’s color is orange
and brown and has a slightly
bitter taste.
PRODUCTIVITYOF COCONUT TREE
 Coconuts can produce 75 fruits
per year based on many crop
conditions.
 It is best if the coconut tree
is always in the sun and above
32 degrees.
 If it is under 32 degrees, the
coconut tree will die.

BENEFITS
SOME HEALTHBENEFITS OF COCONUT
 It helps to reduce accumulation of fat in
people’s bodies.
 Organic coconut oil reduces accumulation of fat
in human body.
 This oil has antibacterial properties and is
good for oral hygiene. It is edible and has no
side effects as known.
 Rich in lychic acid, is effective against
fungal diseases.
 Coconut oil is also effective against infection
diseases. It is widely used in treatment of
infectious diseases.
 Coconut oil helps in loss of stomach and
 Increases body’s metabolic rate and is incredibly
useful for digestive system health. It allows
toxins to be thrown out of stomach.
 It provides bones to strengthen and maintain
flexibility. Coconut oil is very beneficial in
terms of bone health. Apart from that, it
contributes seriously to preservation of muscle

 As mentioned above, organic coconut oil makes
easier to digestion by cleaning toxins. Toxins are
a result of increased free radicals in body. The
acids contained in organic coconut oil cleans body
from free radicals.
 Contains heart-friendly fatty acids. They control
formation and circulation of fats in body.
Saturated fats can easily filter and re-circulate
molecules to facilitate absorption by liver.
Therefore, directly reduces formation
of cholestrol. This reduces risk of heart disease.
